Question:
What do you think about the doctrine of soul sleeping?

I don't think we do. I believe the life-giving spirit returns to God who gave it. Eccles 12:7. When it is stated that the dead know nothing, I think it means of this physical realm, once dead, but they are still conscious in heaven. What are your views? Also, pls. state your church affiliation, if any.

The scriptures indicate that eternal life is awareness. So in physical death the body rests. And the spirit of man, his soul resides aware in heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:8 states that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Revelation 6: 9-11

Believers that arrived in heaven called out to the Messiah to know how long they would have to wait before they see their brethren who at that time were still on the earth.

The Bible teaches that humans are souls. They do not have souls. When we(souls) die, we do not know anything. We can not feel, see, hear or move. We are not conscious. But this is not properly referred to as the doctrine of soul sleeping.

Remember the account of Lazarus resurrection? Jesus said Lazarus had gone to rest. Jesus said that he was going to go to where Lazarus was to do what? To wake him from sleep-John 11:11. Jesus followers thought he meant that Lazarus was just resting in sleep and wondered why Jesus would wake him up. Jesus said what? That Lazarus had died-John 11:12-14

What Jesus said and what is written at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 and 10 harmonizes perfectly. The dead are not alive anywhere, except in God's memory. They sleep, not in rest, but in death. They are not in heaven. Heaven is the place inhabited by God, Jesus and the angels. It is also the place where humans who are chosen to be co-rulers with Christ in his kingdom will go after death-Luke 12:32; 22:28, 29; Revelation 14:1-3; 5:10; 20:6. No other humans go to heaven-John 3:13; Acts 2:34

Not sleeping, dead

(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.

Conscious of nothing. Nada, like a candle flame - gone

(Ezekiel 18:4) Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.

Souls do not go on. Genesis 2:7 "And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. "

Was not given a soul, became a soul.

God with the power to create, can resurrect or recreate, for us to live in Paradise.

53 times in Scripture it is stated/defined:the dead are asleep and know nothing as you state, the spirit of "life" given by God returns to Him, we are burried, returned to the elements from which we came, there is no immediate heaven nor hell, or there would Not be any reason for the 2nd Coming/Judgment...all the ones destined for heaven are really going to wanna come back with Jesus to this earth? no way :-) BTW hell is Not eternal, the wicked shall be destroyed, God is a loving and Just God, He will be deeply saddened to lose even "1"....but ALL shall see and understand the consequences of sin.... there is no "immortal soul" either, that is a catholic doctrine adopted from the heathens long ago which is the heart & soul of heathenism...God Bless

P.S. we "are" the soul "alive" after death , we are dead, no soul....

Soul sleeping is a heretic doctrine which is the result of Bible verse misinterpretations.

"But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine." (Matthew 22:31-33)

Here, the Lord teaches that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are alive, though they have died in the flesh.

As they once lived in the flesh, so they now live in the spirit, though incorruptible and expecting the Lord's glorious return. Likewise, we pray in Christ that those who have been glorified by God in the Holy Spirit may pray with us and for us before God.

When we die we are buried in the grave, asleep, waiting for the return of Jesus. We are not taken up to heaven the minute we die. First, before we can even enter heaven we have to stand before the white throne judgment and that is not till the end of everything.

I hear the voice of a spirit that claims to be God.

He told me that we all sleep until He wakes us up.

Every one of us at the same time.

There is no such thing as a 'soul'. You live, you die, end of story.
