Question:
Why do you come here?
2007-05-18 22:28:26 UTC
I'm serious. Friends? Nothing else to do? A challenge? An interesting mix of people?

I come here for friendships I've made. I like the format, the in-jokes. I mix with so many people that I wouldn't have in my real life. But what motivates YOU?

It's mostly people's personalities. I like talking about religion, but the main thing that keeps me coming back to this section is everyone's sense of humor and things like that. We've got a good group here.

Edit: I love penguins. :-P

I started out in the relationship section and my first answer was chosen best answer. I was hooked!

But there were so many crude, explicit questions, I decided to come here - thinking I could find serious theosophical debate. And I discovered that's not generally possible here!

I met some great people here, though, and I've learned a lot.

I was really physically unwell when I started here, and I had become sort of reclusive, I guess. I didn't socialize with anyone except my family and my church. So imagine my bewilderment when people were hostile about Christians saying "I'll pray for you." and the like. I've never offered to pray for someone as a veiled threat, so that was wild.

It hasn't been what I expected, but it's been educational!

Bored, made lots of friends here, experienced some miracles, What motivates me is faith in the Creator very rural, being a scientist isn't very attractive to my people (sort of reverse bigotry). Single, a chance to to meet people with a like mind. The opportunity to educate others about Native America. Learn new and fantastic ideology and theoretical stuff on Atheism and what Christians think. And the chance to hear views from others around the world.....

Sometimes I'm not sure hehehe I get frustrated in here sometimes, but I think I come back for the interesting mix of people, the rare serious question that I would like to offer an answer on, and to ask some questions.
2007-05-18 22:40:26 UTC
No I don't have any friends and I am not searching for any because I am not good at social interaction in person (writing is okay though). And no, this place is not a challenge, this is like first grade level debates. I mostly am here to tell people when they misinterpret what I believe, or answer questions they have about my beliefs. I do not try to convert anyone. I just give them seeds and it is up to them concerning what to do with them.

I am trying to understand why people of 'faith', would enact laws dictating what I can and cannot do. I do not need fear of an omnipotent being, to act 'properly'.

Should children be taught 'intelligent design' in a science class? It is not science. There is no scientific method here.

Should a public servant in, say, Texas, be required to believe, to serve? That is insane to me.

I cannot possibly fathom why a non-believer, wouldn't stand a chance in a presidential bid.

The list is too long for Y!A.

I am baffled, I cannot grasp, at all, where you people are coming from.

BTW I do have many believer friends that accept me for who I am, and do value my judgment.

They are the exception to the rule.

Intellectual curiosity more than anything. I actually scan the questions and ignore a lot of them, picking ones I really am interested in and answering those, hoping for a good "best answer" percentage. But mostly to see if something I know really might be of value to someone, or to rate an answer that's particularly good.

I first came here, because it was free. Also, I wanted to learn about the Internet, by interacting. I chose this category, because the subject was familiar, and interesting at the time. Now, I come to listen, and to provoke thought. Occasionally, I really need to know something. But mostly, I find that trying to explain even the simplest question teaches me something. I guess I force myself to think clearly, and to frame my ideas more sensibly.

I like the ability to actually answer someones question that I have the answer too.

Also, really enjoy those questions that make me do a little research (mainly on a topic I am interested in, but was not motivated on my own to find out the real answers)

And running into people like you who provide a little levity. Thanks!

At first it was because I thought I could help someone. Now just curious as to what people are asking. What Uncle Wayne and the WSIDR are going to come up with next. Occasionally I do help someone.

I came here because I thought it was interesting. I stayed because it was fun.

I really like helping people. I like expressing my opinions. I love to write. I like to think. And I like people, but I don't go out much, so I get to learn about people and what they think and feel. Answers does all of this for me.

Who doesn't like to give their opinion? I like to share what I know and Christianity is my passion. I like to learn about other religions and absolutely love to answer silly questions! I've made a few friends, made a few mentors and hopefully helped improve someones spiritual life.

Back where I grew up, I have the best of friends, but we've never met a real life fundie there. Didn't even know they really existed.

Coming here is like watching a train wreck with a bunch of good friends. You don't wanna watch, but you have to.

I like people and I'm mostly by myself all the time so this is my out, I get to "chat" online without really chatting. I like all of my contacts and the jokes/riddles are really funny sometimes.

I don't feel like playing on the PS2, or going out into City of Hero's, so I come here to the argument clinic.

Sometimes I just feel like posting the max level of insanity I can conceive of, and other times just putting out reasonable pap...depends on my mood at the moment...

Mostly for the bile and venom fix, which is funny. For the oppurtunity to rise above it, which I don't always manage. For the opportunity to make wisecracks. To improve my typing skills and endurance. And it's something to do to occupy part of my mind when I'm fishing for monkfish in Piscatoris (RuneScape). There's also the possibility of learning something or having others learn from me. Oh yeah, and the silliness is useful - I spent too many years taking eveything seriously.

This is just a tiny way to try.

Often, religious questions require philosphical answers. It makes me think philosophically, and I think that's good for me.
