Please give references to show that Jesus was in the tomb for three day and three nights.?

My friend (who is Islamic) is needing help to answer her son (who is still Christian) about the prophecy in Jonah, and then the fulfillment as Jesus could not have been in the tomb 3 full days and nights if He were crucified on Thursday.

Three Days and Three Nights in the Heart of the Earth -



Jesus spent three days and three night IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH (Matt.12:40 below).



Jesus spent this time in the paradise of God (Lk.23:43 below).



When Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene very early in the morning on the first day of the week (Sunday - Mark.16:9 below) Jesus said to Mary that she was NOT TO TOUCH HIM because He had NOT YET ascended unto His Father, yet He told her go to His brethren and tell them “. . . I ascend unto my Father . . . . (Jn.20:17 below).



I believe Jesus spent the remainder of days in the paradise of God prior to His ascension to His Father to fulfill the three days and three nights, as written (Matt.12:40 below).



When Jesus said to Thomas, “. . reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: . . .” (Jn.20:27 below) we know Jesus HAD ASCENDED to His Father, otherwise Thomas could not have touched Jesus (Jn.20:17 below).







Matt.12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH.



Lk.23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.



Mk.16:9 Now when [Jesus] was risen EARLY the first [day] of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.



Jn.20:17 Jesus saith unto her, TOUCH ME NOT; FOR I AM NOT YET ASCENDED to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God.



Jn.20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

He died on a Friday at 3 o'oclock in the afternoon and rose AFTER the Sabbath (Saturday) on Sunday.



Matthew 28,1-8

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, 2 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.

He wasn't, but that's not necessarily the prophecy. And nights are the next day in both Islamic and Jewish culture. SUNSET marks the START of a new day SUNRISE is basically mid-day.



Jesus was take down from the cross on late thursday afternoon just before sunset (so if you want to be technical about it, he was DEAD on "wedsnday" becuse "wednesday" had not yet ended).



He was put into the tomb by or neart nightfall, hence the official start of thursday at sunset, the sabbath Pasach (Jesus was crucified on preparation day).



A Roman guard was left to make sure no one would come and steal the body.



On Sunday morning (the third day just after mid-day) he had already arisen, the tomb was open and his body was gone.



Technically that is 60+ hours not a full 72, but it is in the THIRD day, which began Saturday Night at sunset, running up to sunset on Sunday.

If he wants her son to be islamic she can tell lies...but I don't advise.



If she want her son to be a christian..she must tell him that Jesus was never in the tomb..He got out of the earthly body after being crucified and went to hell to free the sinners who went there from Adam and Eve.Those who didn't sin were in Heaven..Then He came back and showed up..so the apostoles could see He was alive..and we can resurect ..if we belive in Him.Jesus was Son of God , not God the Father.But Jesus is a part of God , of The Holy Trinity, being a God as psysical condition and mental condition and power.

Luke 24:7 says it all. But virtually all accounts of the Crucifixtion and related resurrection prophecies in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) refer to the three day period He lay in the tomb.

no 3 days is seventy two hours if he died every time on a Friday and rose on the subsequent Sunday (whether on the comparable time he died Friday) it would in basic terms be 40 8 hours it fairly is two days. i assume while they say he replaced into ineffective 3 days they are counting dates not certainly hours that could make up a 24 hour era to be sure a real day.

Sorry I have no knowledge on that. But If Jesus is God and he was dead during those time, who took care of the world when he was dead? It can't be on auto-pilot?

Some of the Christians answer that the Father took care of it but then again now there were two entities and yet they say god is one. Mind-boggling.
