The Bible says in Genesis that when God breathed the breath of life into the body he had formed, the man "became a living soul." Hmmm So, was it the "breath" that made him a soul, or the "life"? Let's say, "life," because before my baby was born he wasn't breathing but he sure showed a lot of emotion! O.K., "life" has certain characteristics: mobility, respiration, ingestion, elimination, regeneration. The twins are an easy call for me: two mindsets, two souls. The test tube babies - are their cells dividing, or frozen? Are they "fertilized" already. Shucks. They're probably "souls," too. Not old enough to vote, though! grin They're worth something to somebody, or they wouldn't exist. So, how could they not be worth something to God? (You wanna raise 'em by the Tree of Life? There's a possibility!)

It would seem the crux of the matter is the definition of the word 'soul'.

There is the common idea, taught by many churches, that it is some wispy, invisible thing that lives on and on.

That, of course, is false.

The soul, according to the very book that introduced the word, is a person.

Please note Genesis 2:7:

"God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. . ."

Man came to BE a soul ......not have one.

You ARE a soul.

Therefore, in the 2 cases you cite, if it is considered a human life, it IS a soul.

hindu philosophy says that at the soul level all people are one, so there is no difference between 2 souls and one soul - it is like the ocean - are the pacific and atlantic 2 oceans or just one that we give two names to? They are joined together - part of one great divine soul.

Hindu philosophy also says that everything even rocks have souls, they are just not as awake as human souls.

This makes the most sense to me...

Living bodies are given souls. Test tube babies are living. Siamese twins are two living beings adjoined. My opinion!

Every life has a soul, so yes test tube babies have a soul.

Siamese twin are merely conjoined twins, they have two seperate souls.

I think everyone has a soul once they are created! But what about married couples...aren't they known as 2 souls in one?

We are all a part of God's soul. Human myosis can I either take place in a vagina or a petrie dish.

soul is cognition...as soon as test tube babies become aware of their 'being'--there's your soul

and since siamese twins have separate cognitive awarenesses--they each have a 'soul'

It seems to me the answers are most likely:

1) Yes

2) Yes

It also seems that we should err on the side of caution in such matters.

*If* there is such a thing as souls the the answer to both is yes. But as souls do not exist, then the answer is no to both and no for all other humans.

When I get to heaven, I'll check on that.

I suspect that as long as there is a heartbeat and a brain, there is a soul also.

Wrong question. Your question incorporates heathen concepts. You don't have a soul, you are a soul.
