CONCEPT OF GOD IN CHRISTIANITY:

1. Jesus Christ (pbuh) never claimed Divinity

One may ask, if both Muslims and Christians love and respect Jesus (pbuh), where exactly is the parting of ways? The major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians’ insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ (pbuh). A study of the Christian scriptures reveals that Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity. In fact there is not a single unequivocal statement in the entire Bible where Jesus (pbuh) himself says, "I am God" or where he says, "worship me". In fact the Bible contains statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in which he preached quite the contrary. The following statements in the Bible are attributed to Jesus Christ (pbuh):

(i) "My Father is greater than I."

[The Bible, John 14:28]

(ii) "My Father is greater than all."

[The Bible, John 10:29]

(iii) "…I cast out devils by the Spirit of God…."

[The Bible, Mathew 12:28]

(iv) "…I with the finger of God cast out devils…."

[The Bible, Luke 11:20]

(v) "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgement is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."

[The Bible, John 5:30]

2. The Mission of Jesus Christ (pbuh) – to Fulfill the Law

Jesus (pbuh) never claimed divinity for himself. He clearly announced the nature of his mission. Jesus (pbuh) was sent by God to confirm the previous Judaic law. This is clearly evident in the following statements attributed to Jesus (pbuh) in the Gospel of Mathew:

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."

[The Bible, Mathew 5:17-20]

3. God Sent Jesus' (pbuh)

The Bible mentions the prophetic nature of Jesus (pbuh) mission in the following verses:

(i)"… and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me."

[The Bible, John 14:24]

(ii)"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."

[The Bible, John 17:3]

4. Jesus Refuted even the Remotest Suggestion of his Divinity

Consider the following incident mentioned in the Bible:

"And behold, one came and said unto him, ‘Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?’

And he said unto him, ‘Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.’ "

[The Bible, Mathew 19:16-17]

Jesus (pbuh) did not say that to have the eternal life of paradise, man should believe in him as Almighty God or worship him as God, or believe that Jesus (pbuh) would die for his sins. On the contrary he said that the path to salvation was through keeping the commandments. It is indeed striking to note the difference between the words of Jesus Christ (pbuh) and the Christian dogma of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus (pbuh).

5. Jesus (pbuh) of Nazareth – a Man Approved of God

The following statement from the Bible supports the Islamic belief that Jesus (pbuh) was a prophet of God.

"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know."

[The Bible, Acts 2:22]

6. The First Commandment is that God is One

The Bible does not support the Christian belief in trinity at all. One of the scribes once asked Jesus (pbuh) as to which was the first commandment of all, to which Jesus (pbuh) merely repeated what Moses (pbuh) had said earlier:

"Shama Israelu Adonai Ila Hayno Adonai Ikhad."

This is a Hebrew quotation, which means:

"Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord."

[The Bible, Mark 12:29]

It is striking that the basic teachings of the Church such as Trinity and vicarious atonement find no mention in the Bible. In fact, various verses of the Bible point to Jesus’ (pbuh) actual mission, which was to fulfill the law revealed to Prophet Moses (pbuh). Indeed Jesus (pbuh) rejected any suggestions that attributed divinity to him, and explained his miracles as the power of the One True God.

Jesus (pbuh) thus reiterated the message of monotheism that was given by all earlier prophets of Almighty God.

NOTE: All quotations of the Bible are taken from the King James Version.

Because for the first time in eternity God the Father could not look upon God the Son for He bore the sins of the world on His shoulder. Sin is what separates us from the Father. This is what we would have to go through if we died not having a Savior. Jesus took that sin and abolished it forever if we would just receive that gift of eternal life.

Edit: Jesus was both man and God. He placed all His powers behind. How can He become a true sacrifice if He retained all of His abilities? He relied solely on His Father to direct His every move and every Word. He conquered death by being the perfect man sacrifice for He was without sin showing us that only through Him do we gain redemption and because of this Jesus became fully God/Man. :)

Jesus is the word, united by 2 natures, God and Man, called the Hypostatic Union. It is not understood how these 2 natures unites w.o a form of chaos, but yet united by the will of God. So only God knows. Jesus had the ability to act as man yet God. When Jesus refers to God as a higher person, that human nature speaks. If he speaks of God equally, the Son of God speaks. It is illogical for God to speak as a 2nd person and 1st person yet still be the same person.

You are quoting from two different bibles. Christian and Muslim. So since you directed it towards Christians then I will use the Christian bible. In order to understand what Jesus meant when he said "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" You have to understand the trinity. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are three different entities, working as one unit. When Jesus asked that question to his Father in heaven is because God had to turn away from the pain of watching his only son, die on the cross for our sins. Jesus was praying to his Father which is His God and our God. (not Allah! Different subject, different day!)

Their is only one God. Jesus, a living God. He died and arose on the 3rd day. You can't say that for Allah. Allah never died for your sins. Jesus did. Yet you still deny Him. Jesus came to us to save the world not to condemn it. The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost are all one. God sent part of Him to earth in bodily form as a child born to a virgin. So we all can be saved from our sins and have a chance to go to Heaven. With out Jesus being tortured and dying on the cross and rising on the 3rd day, we would not have a chance to be forgiven for our sins. Yes, I said our. Yours and mine. He loves us that much. All that people do to reject and mock Him,I don't understand it. He shed His blood for them.I am saved by His blood being shed. I am forever great-full. I know without a doubt where me and my family is going when we die. I look forward to Him coming back just like He promised us. His word is the truth. He says He is the same then, now and in the future. He doesn't change. He is faithful to us all. Even to you who reject Him. Think about that. He says very clear. I am with you always even to the end of the earth. He also says His word will always be there when the earth and heaven are gone. Another words when we are back on earth with Him. That will be forever. Isn't that wonderful? I can't wait. I don't know where Islam came from. I know the truth and will share it with anyone who will listen. When did Allah bless you last? When did Allah heal you or a loved one last? I am not being disrespectful. I love you all. I am just asking a simple question. Please I mean no disrespect to anyone. I will help anyone who ask me. I would be there for anyone who needs me. God bless you all. I love you but, Jesus loves you more. Remember what is impossible for man is possible for God.

Sometimes you have to stop running your mouth and think for a second. You'll see 2 sides of Jesus in the Bible , 1 where he claims equality with God, and the other, while he humbled himself and became human. As a human, of course Jesus is no longer equal to God. Then when he is crucified and rises again, he is human no more and immediately reclaims his deity as others come to worship him.

Jesus is the Son of God and is equal with God. If you were a Jew and didn't believe Jesus was the messiah, what would you think of him saying he was equal with God? You probably would want to hurt him. Here's the problem we have today. People doubt he is the Son and make silly controversies over it. People need to open their eyes and their heart.

Lewis - Amen you're so proper! ^ No one has the proper to inform any person that they are going to Hell. ^ Yes, it's hypocritical for a sinner (that is each person one in this earth) to position him/herself within the position of Almighty God. ^ No one has the authority to inform any person that they are destined for Heaven or Hell - you are proper that's the LORD's position - you are additionally proper that it's well as blasphemy. ^ You are right once more in announcing; "Maybe we must preserve an eye fixed on our possess sins . . . " Yeshua says it pleasant in Matthew 7:three - "And why fear approximately a speck to your buddy's eye in case you have a log to your possess?" I am a follower of the LORD and He teaches that we must; "Stop judging others, and you'll no longer be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it is going to all come again on you. If you forgive others, you'll be forgiven" Luke 6:37. We must all take a truly well seem on the Scriptures to study "Exactly" what they imply, alternatively of consistently taking anyone else interpretation of what they suppose they imply. In the identical approach that each person at Yeshua's crucifixion most likely suggestion that the person putting at the different aspect of Him used to be going to Hell, (in view that even the crook himself stated that he used to be sinner and deserved to be there) however they had been unsuitable then and those that suppose they realize now are unsuitable. The guy at the different aspect of Messiah Yeshua didn't pass to Hell, however will probably be in paradise with Him simply as He mentioned in Luke 23:forty three. Be Blessed:-)

God is some kind of illusion that supposedly "always was". This way the Christians can justify their god in a way that can't be disproved, yet is impossible to prove anyway.

Jesus is God's son. there are three parts of the Trinity. People think that God sent himself down to earth to die, but it specifically says that Jesus is the son of God. "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." He was born of a virgin, which makes him half human and half God. They are distinctly different as is the Holy Spirit. " it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won't come." They are all God, but they are all separate. And yes he did pray to his father. I know some believe they are all the exact same, but without Jesus' example all is lost. You don't have to believe it, but I do. Why do so many attack Christians? You will not change us by attacking us as we would not change you by attacking you. I don't see you attacking Muslims or Buddhists because of their faiths, and I attack no one for their beliefs, but yet I am attacked for my beliefs and faith.

First of all, God is capitalized unless you know someone more powerful-sorta a grammar rule-

Second, the Son said to the Father, "My God" .It was His Father and His God!

In your additional details, the reference shows the unity and closeness of Jesus and His disciples.

When Jesus said those words on the cross, He was suffering the agony of utter separation from the Father--the penalty for the whole world's sin.

As senseless as you have put this, I get your point:

Why would any sane person scream out "MY GOD MY GOD" to refer to himself? Only an insane person would address himself in the third person, when that person is also his own father.

Do you believe in God, and why?

This is an interesting question. First of all, we, as human being, did not come to this world on our own choice, and we will not leave this world on our own choice. All the natural signs, the universe, and starting from ourselves, we can see how beautiful and complex our human body is. Everything in our body, our organs are so complex and yet complete in functionality. Human eye for example, how we see, recognize colors, all such a complex mechanism. How is it possible to have such an organized universal system without a Creator? For us human beings, even for designing a small car, there are so many procedures and requirements before it comes out in the market. How do animals have instincts and know that they have to feed and protect their babies? Do they go to animal school, no? The sun, the moon, stars, they are all signs that there is Someone behind all this.

Are there many gods?

The simple and most logical answer is, No. Can you have two gods without any conflict in decisions, all the time? Here we have matters of life and death, if there were two, or three, or six gods wouldn't they have conflict when a person would die, where he will live, how much he will earn and when an incident would happen and how it will happen?

Why don't we see God? Possibly there is a logic behind it, in God's infinite wisdom. We don't have to see everything to believe it. May be we will see God after we die and then He will judge us on our actions. Someone who has created us and everything around us may have a better reason to not show himself, yet.

How do we find what God has to say? If we believe that we were created for a purpose, and there is good and evil, and we have been given choices for everything we do in this world, may be there is some guideline which God wants us to follow. When you buy a new machine you just don't start using it. You use the manual to read and understand how that machine would operate. So it is possible that we also have a manual for our lives, which tells about what is good for us what is bad, for there are consequences for all choices.

Which book should I follow? We should look for scripture that is most authentic. Should we not believe that there must be scripture(s) written/instructed by God himself? If there is one God then it makes perfect sense that His message should not be conflicting. The one who has sustained universe must be able to sustain and preserve His message. We know that Prophets came to this world from time to time and delivered messages and were also given miracles. They brought commandments like Torah, Zaboor, Bible and Quraan.

What religion should I follow? If you believe in a Creator and believe in life and death and justice then you should follow that one Creator and His message, the message in its original form without conflicts and without different versions.

Will we be held accountable for our acts? The most logical answer is, Yes. Justice won't be served if we are not held accountable, rewarded for our good and punished for our bad deeds.

Which religion to follow? God must have sent all prophets with the same message. It is not possible that if God is One, then different prophets will preach different messages. However from time to time the rules/application may be different. If they have same message, then why there is conflict? It is possible that Humans out of corruption, may have tainted some of these books, that's why we see so many versions of Bible and Torah and Zaboor. The original message has been corrupted. The same original message which these books had is also in the Quraan, but God promised in Quraan that He will preserve it, so for the last 1,450 years there is only single untainted word of God, in which God himself speaks to us, and reminds us that He sent these messengers with the same message but the followers neglected them and changed the message. For the Quran, He promised, He will preserve it till the end of time, and it is a miracle by itself that the book has not seen a single word change. No other book that old has survived.

Why are so many bad things related to Muslims? We should not look at the followers, we should look at the religion, and not base our thoughts on media and preconceived notions. Some followers may be bad, portraying evil, but it simply means that evil is within themselves. Islam teaches Peace, modesty, trust, justice, and it has the same message which prophets like Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (PBUH) taught. That is, one God worthy of worship, He is all knowing of past, present and future, ever living, without partners, no wife, no sons, unlike anything we have ever seen.

What does Islam says about Moses, Jesus, doesn't Islam preach hatred for these religion?

In Islam teachings, not only Moses and Jesus were messengers of God, they were also given books, and brought the same message of God which was later on preached by Muhammad. The name of Moses is messenger more than any other prophets in the Quraan, he was a beloved Prophet and God gave him miracles. The same message of Only one God worthy of worship, no partners, was brought by Jesus, he was a Prophet of God, not a son, and he was given very high status and miracles. His mother, Mary, was a very pious woman, and according to Islamic teachings she will have the highest status among the women of Paradise. And finally, Muhammad, brought the same message which was preached by Moses and Jesus, to follow one God, and Muhammad is the final prophet. Muhammad was given the Quraan, which is the word of God, and God promised to keep it intact till the end of time.

Quraan in some places have admonished Jews and Christians for changing the message (book) of God, and instructs them to believe in Muhammad, as they were told by God in Jewish and Christians scriptures to follow Muhammad and his teachings when he arrives. Those messages were changed by Jews and Christians in their books, the very reason why we see so many conflicting versions of Jews and Christian scriptures.

It's all written in good faith and hope it does not hurt anyone. Thank you very much!

In Matthew 27:45-46, it says, "Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. 46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" If Jesus is God, why would He say this?

First of all, Jesus quoted Psalm 22:1 which begins with, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?". Jesus quoted this Psalm in order to draw attention to it and the fact that He was fulfilling it there on the cross. Consider verses 11-18 in Psalm 22:

Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help.12 Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. 13 They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And Thou dost lay me in the dust of death. 16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.

The term 'dogs' was used by the Jews to refer to Gentiles (cf. Matt. 15:21-28). His heart has melted within Him (v. 14). During the crucifixion process, the blood loss causes the heart to beat harder and harder and become extremely fatigued. Dehydration occurs (v. 15). Verses 16b-18 speak of piercing His hands and feet and dividing his clothing by casting lots. This is exactly what happen as described in Matt. 27:35.

Psalm 22 was written about 600 years before Christ was born. At that time, crucifixion had not yet been invented. Actually, the Phoenicians developed it and Rome borrowed the agonizing means of execution from them. So, when Rome ruled over Israel, it became the Roman means of capital punishment imposed upon the Jews whose biblical means of execution was stoning. Nevertheless, Jesus is pointing to the scriptures to substantiate His messianic mission.

A further comment

2 Cor. 5:21 says, "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." It is possible that at some moment on the cross, when Jesus became sin on our behalf, that God the Father, in a sense, turned His back upon the Son. It says in Hab. 1:13 that God is too pure to look upon evil. Therefore, it is possible that when Jesus bore our sins in His body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24), that the Father, spiritually, turned away. At that time, the Son may have cried out.

One thing is for sure. We have no capacity to appreciate the utterly horrific experience of having the sins of the world put upon the Lord Jesus as He hung, in excruciating pain, from that cross. The physical pain was immense. The spiritual one must have been even greater.

That shows us clearly how much God loves us.
