What Psalms do you enjoy reading, and what is it about that psalm (or those)?
For example, Psalm 88 when you're upset about something, because it shows a new light of talking/venting to God.
Or Psalm 121 because it helps you when going through hard times.
Etc...Which ones do you like to read, what do they help you endure (if anything), and why?

Psalms 23

I have lived long enough to appreciate each and every word!

I have died and come back.

I know this Psalm by heart.

...and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 51 thsi is the psalm David wrote after being confronted by Nathan about Bathsheba. As so often is the case in life we tend to screw up. This passionate apeal to God after Davids failure and sin and Gods ultimate acceptance and renewal is a comfort to me.

Psalm 37. Why? Just look at it. Isn't it full of promise, evidence of God's love for His children? Also, isn't it showing us the difference between the world and the chosen? As in How God treats His children compared to His children.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;

dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;

trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,

the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;

do not fret when men succeed in their ways,

when they carry out their wicked schemes.

I like the first one third of psalms because they are mostly prophetic. I especially like Psalm 22. It describes in detail of the crucifixion and death of Christ ,,, right down to the Roman soldiers gambling for Christ's robes.

Psalms 23. I think regardless of faith or background - everyone can identify with being afraid - and that passage is very comforting to me. It actually makes me feel empowered and brave despite the unknown.

Psalm 139

It reminds me of how precious we are to Him.

How he knew us since before we were born, how He knit us together ( Oh I can so picture that... God carefully knitting together a strand of DNA.)

How He is always with us and guiding us.

Psalm 51:1-4 and 9-11 and 15-17.

This psalm is my favorite because it helps when I feel I have sinned beyond forgiveness... (and I've been a Christian for a long time... we never get over sinning, it just hurts when we do because it takes away our joy and peace until we get it straightened out with the Lord.

The story is:

this has to be long in order to explain...I'm sorry about the length..

Ps 51:1-4 –

A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

1 Have mercy upon me, O God,

According to Your loving kindness;

According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,

Blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,

And my sin is always before me.

4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,

And done this evil in Your sight—

That You may be found just when You speak,[a]

And blameless when You judge.

=====.

Well, we all know the story - David totally lost it for Bathsheba, who was the wife of Uriah, one of David's soldiers. David committed adultery with her, she got pregnant and David had Uriah killed, and then married Bathsheba.

And now the rest of the story which precipitated the writing of this Psalm.

It is in 2 Samuel:12 which tells about the visit the prophet Nathan made to David. David had already sinned and thought he had covered it up.. Nathan started out with asking David what he would in the following situation:

‘====

12:1, "There were two men in one city, the one rich and the other poor.

2 "The rich man had a great many flocks and herds.

3 "But the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb Which he bought and nourished; And it grew up together with him and his children. It would eat of his bread and drink of his cup and lie in his bosom, And was like a daughter to him.

4 "Now a traveler came to the rich man, And he was unwilling to take from his own flock or his own herd, To prepare for the wayfarer who had come to him; Rather he took the poor man's ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him."

5 Then David's anger burned greatly against the man, and he said to Nathan, "As the LORD lives, surely the man who has done this deserves to die.

6 "He must make restitution for the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and had no compassion."

It was then, in verse 7, that Nathan "dropped the bomb."

7 Nathan then said to David, "YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Thus says the LORD God of Israel,

9 'Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.

10 'Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.'

====

Well, David could have continued in denial, with words such as "I did NOT have sex with that woman." But instead he fessed up

:

13 Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." (2 Samuel 12:13a) and in verse 14, Nathan tells him what will happen to him

In verse 15 we find the first “punishment” for David when his baby whom he and Bathsheba had, died when it was 7 days old. And David, from then on, had tragedy and tragedy in his family…. Rape of a step sister by her brother, a son tried to take the kingdom away from his father…. Just horrible family life…. It appears to me that he was paid back along the family line because it was in the family of Uriah that he sinned when he stole his wife.)
