1. Most of you are going through a phase.

2. Nobody takes you seriously since you haven't studied anything and haven't bothered to seriously examine the arguments.

3. Most of you will become outright theists and Christians as you get older.

I'm an atheist that became one when I was in my forties and I reached that position from careful, objective evaluation of the available evidence to date.

Granted, Christians do tend to go through phases where they claim to be atheists (generally while still believing in a god) and go on to use this as a "nice touch" in their testimony. While this is largely ignorance it is dangerously close to lying.

On the other hand, what we are seeing now is that as people become better educated about what we have learned in the last several hundred years and as current findings are more rapidly available, more people are questioning their faith, not because of a phase or for the attention, but because their faith is simply not supported by the evidence.

Uh-huh, sure. Keep telling yourself that. I got the feeling that later on down the road, you will be the senile old man in your '80s, who keeps repeating that, when you are in the state run nursing home.

1. Nope, guaranteed it is not a phase, unless I get in an accident and damage the "logic-center" of my brain or a god ACTUALLY appears.

2. People take me seriously. I have studied things--I know more physics than over 99% of the population. I examine every argument I come across as in-depth as I possibly can and keep an open mind to all possible approaches to this argument. I then decide on the proper side to take, if any.

3. Refer back to 1.

Haha no. I'm actually very smart. I am an international baccalaureate. Im above honors. I don't believe in God because I look at the scientific point of view. Science is my favorite subject and I've been studying neurology for a while because I find it fascinating that one part of us can create feelings, sight, thoughts, etc. It's not a phase. I've never believed in God. I thought the thought of a God has always been dumb. Christians are so blind that they won't look at anything against the bible. Quit building all these huge churches and use that money for something else that could potentially save a child's life. I do not care if people tell me I will go to hell. If I go to hell for having my own beliefs, then so be it.

I'm 65 and became an atheist at 15 after much study... so just how old will I have to be to become a Christian again.

I only ask because you seem to be the one with all the answers...

1. So for my entire life, I've been in a "phase"?

2. How can you generalize an entire group like that? None of us has ever studied anything at all, or bothered to examine the arguments ever? Really?

3. If I ever do, please shoot me.

Nonsense (which is not surprising coming from a theist).

None of that was true for me, and I've been an atheist now for around 40 years.

"Younger atheists - You know that you're probably going through a phase and that you"ll become religious as you get older?"

False.

1) Actually, I was going through a phase when I was a religious person. I became LESS religious as I got older. I began to realize that religion mostly exists as a way to manipulate and exploit people. Unlike some people, I can think for myself. I don't need religion to tell me how to live and what to do.

2) That is by far the most ridiculous thing I have seen all day.

3) See #1.

I agree with your statements, although they are more accurate when directed to those who have no college in their future, or only a bible college in their future.

Interestingly enough, I agree with your statements.

I mean, you did say "probably" and "most of you". And I *do not* take teenage atheists seriously when it becomes evident that they haven't thought seriously about stuff. Some teenage atheists are very serious and have researched religion and have come to well-reasoned conclusions. But most haven't. That's my perception, anyway.

Most people end up believing whatever it is they were raised to believe. Even if they go through a phase where they believe something else for a while.

1. No, I was going through a phase when I was theist. When I was theist, I forced myself to feel the holy spirit by lying to myself. When I was open to the idea and stopped lying to myself and forcing myself, but instead went about the spirit with an open mind, nothing ever happened for 3 years. This phase was one of lying to myself about my beliefs.

2. Really? You know that atheists are most knowledgable about religion, don't you? http://www.pewforum.org/2010/09/28/u-s-religious-knowledge-survey/

3. And what makes you an omniscient being who knows what we are going to do?

Younger theists -- You know that you're probably going through a phase and that you'll become atheist as you get older?

1. Most of you have been brainwashed and indoctrinatd

2. Nobody takes you seriously since you haven't studied anything and haven't bothered to seriously examine the arguments.

3. Most of you will become outright atheists as you get older.

I like my version better. In fact, it is much more accurate.

I am over 70 years old and am still an Atheist.

When I was younger I was a devout Theist and spent two years in a seminary.
