It had vampires, ghosts, werewolves, phoenixes, etc. I don't think any of it's characters were ever portrayed as being Christian either.

Yes, it was full of so called vampires. At least the show isn't like the ones now, where the vampires are running around dressed like eurotrash and speaking in stupid accents. Geez....

Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. Director Tim Burton and Madonna have both stated they were fans of the series. As a child, Johnny Depp was so obsessed with Barnabas Collins that he wanted to be him. He is collaborating with Tim Burton on a theatrical film adaptation, in which he will play Barnabas!

I remember Dark Shadows, having grown up when it first appeared on television, and I enjoyed it immensely. I even had the Dark Shadows board game, where one would amass the pieces of a skeleton and assemble it in a tiny coffin. First to complete the skeleton wins! :)
I was unaware that Dark Shadows was still on TV, and wonder if you are referring to the original series, which starred Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins.
It's been so many years since I've seen the show that I can't comment as to the religions portrayed, but it certainly was fun to watch. I'm curious as to whether you've been following The Walking Dead on amc.
Thank you. :)

I thought it was just a soap opera which successfully exploited the public's fascination with the occult and paranormal, and injected the fantasy horror stuff into it to appeal to the audience that likes that kind of stuff. Worked well for them. I really got a kick out of Barnabas. It was entertaining and there was never any promotion of any kind of 'Pagan' ideas, other than it was not a healthy or good thing to mess with that kind of crap.

Well, there was a Reverend Johnson in the series. But I loved the series. I used to run home from school every day, so I didn't miss it.
Edit: Quentin Collins became a werewolf.

i watched it when i was in grade school, would rush home from school to catch the latest episode. i only remember it having vampires, but not werewolves and the like, but then again that was almost 50 years ago. i quit watching because it gave me nightmares. something about quentin in a rocking chair. i was just a little girl. no, it definitely was not Christian.

No, Not Pagan, but fantasy. Certainly no more fantastic that a three-in-one god!
It was a big show when I was in college, the common rooms and student union TV rooms were always crowded around 1:00PM when it aired. It was the only "soap opera" I ever watched.

No, not Pagan. The term Pagan is a broad term that covers religions that worship multiple gods (religions that are not monotheistic). The term Pagan cannot be applied to Dark Shadows. A "supernatural soap opera" would be more appropriate.

we've been watching the old episodes. (rent them from netflix) great show, even though it is a little dated.
I wouldn't call it Pagan, just dark fantasy. Pretty cool for 1960's daytime TV
