I am told that the prophesies in the bible are proof enough to convince any skeptic that it had foreknowledge. The prophesies I have heard so far though either were not very impressive due to being vague or having no time limit. Or they were carried out by people with an interest in fulfilling them.

What are the really convincing ones I am unfamiliar with?

I have always found it amazing that in such a time as when the Bible was written, that the prophets almost to a man seem to unfailingly condemn greed and the acquisition of wealth, promising that such an attitude will bring the nation down.

First of all, the prophets were RIGHT. That's noteworthy in itself.

However, it's interesting to note that this was not the path of popular thought. This is was not the easy way, the path that guarantees followers. If anything, it's exactly the opposite. And yet, this seems to have been the message most of the prophets believe.

It's impossible, of course, to know what the prophets were really saying back in the day. We know they generally didn't write their prophecies; they generally sang them. If you read the Prophets, you are looking at the distillation of the oracles of the prophets, preserved by, who knows? perhaps most likely it was their followers.

They all said, "This nation will fall because it takes from the oppressed and gives their property to the rich and greedy." You can look it up, although it is a tough read. The prophets wrote in a very poetic, symbolic language, full of metaphor, most of which we no longer understand fully. But the anger against the greedy is not hard to spot!

Perhaps you were expecting an example of how a prophet said something like, "On January 5th of the eighth year of the reign of Domitian, a wall in the marketplace of Damascus will collapse, killing five children, including the first born of Marcus ben Joseph."

Nah. Prophecy didn't work that way. Prophets told about the signs of the times and how the people needed to repent of their bad habits, or worse things would happen.

Social justice critics still read the prophets today for just that sort of message. It's timeless.

The most impressive prophesies of the Bible are the Old Testament about Jesus. And if you don't find them to be convincing, you haven't investigated them; at least not with an open mind.

Unless you are talking about Messianic Jews, they have not been "investigating that stuff." Ever hear of C. S. Lewis, Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell and Francis Collins. They are all former atheists? They all "investigated that stuff" and found out that it is the truth.

ONe that used to silence the greatest of intellects is the Prophecy of the Destruction of Jerusalem. Josephus, no Christian at all, said that even pagans were calling it destruction sent by God to punish the Jews. AND NOT ONE CHRISTIAN because they knew Jesus' prediction and His Warning about when to flee.

=========

Josephus claims that 1,100,000 people were killed during the siege, of which a majority were Jewish, and that 97,000 were captured and enslaved, including Simon bar Giora and John of Giscala. [

"The slaughter within was even more dreadful than the spectacle from without. Men and women, old and young, insurgents and priests, those who fought and those who entreated mercy, were hewn down in indiscriminate carnage. The number of the slain exceeded that of the slayers. The legionaries had to clamber over heaps of dead to carry on the work of extermination."

Many fled to areas around the Mediterranean. Titus reportedly refused to accept a wreath of victory, saying that the victory did not come through his own efforts but that he had merely served as an instrument of God's wrath.

Aside from Christ at the appointed time[the 1st time]??

Isaiah named Cyrus by name while Jeremiah told exactly when[70 years] - I don't think anyone conspired among his brethren to bring the fall of Babylon to fruition at the appointed time to make a name for God but God alone brought all these things together to make a name for Himself by naming those[Jer25:12-14] who did those things.

As for the 'Daughter of Babylon[America(1776AD-2018AD{dominion; 1948-2018AD})]:

Jer51:13 - the 'financial meltdown'

Jer51:14 - illegal immigration and LaRaza

Lev26:14-16 - the 'War on Terror'

Rev17:16-18 - "Death to America!"[1979AD-2018AD]

Dan5:25 - 9/11 #'s 11 77 93 175

Creation: 6+1 days(Gen1 and 2:1-3) @ 2P3:8 = 2013AD[5774{?}, 6017{?}] +/-? + Rev20:2-7... follow?

Micah 5:2

[ The Coming Messiah ] “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”

Speaks of the birth place of Christ as recorded in the new testament.

Psalm 22

16 For dogs have surrounded Me;

The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.

They pierced My hands and My feet;

17 I can count all My bones.

They look and stare at Me.

18 They divide My garments among them,

And for My clothing they cast lots.

Speaks of the crucifixtion of Christ down to the nails, before there ever was this type of execution.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Speaks of the virgin birth, recorded in the new testament, and Immanuel is translated God with us. which is what Christ was.

And Isaiah 53 is a gospel account written 750 years before Christ. these are only a few..

this is just a bit of Isaiah 53.

But He was wounded for our transgressions,

He was bruised for our iniquities;

The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

And by His stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray;

We have turned, every one, to his own way;

And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

The sins of the world laid upon Him just as recorded in the new testament.

Jesus prophesied that he would return within the lifetime of those he was talking to. That certainly made an impression on me.
