How can you guys believe in the bible when it has so many inconsistencies.
1.How can he had created light 3 whole days before the stars, even though we know stars give off light
2.And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water"...but how can you seperate water from..more water.
Im looking forward to your answers =)

The bible can be extremely difficult to interpret, which is why there are so many denominations within the religion. but at least the water thing means the oceans and the sky, or clouds rather. He pulled water from the oceans and made clouds. And maybe he made light and then made more light? with stars? heck, i dunno i wasn't there! haha.

This is a very difficult question to answer, because very few people know the Bible completely, but I would like to do my best for you.

I notice that you have only pointed out two verses, both from Genesis, that you find difficult to come to terms with, and both are easily explained. Let me assure you, there is so much more in the Bible that is harder to understand than that, but I can also assure you that with the right guidance and some serious study of the scriptures, you will see that there is no inconsistency in it.

1. There is no verse in Genesis that actually refers to God creating stars and the sun. In Genesis 1:1, where it all begin, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." That is the point at which the "heavens" (ie. stars, ect.) were made. The next verse tells us that "darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." This tells us that when God created the heavens and the earth (the very first verse) that is the point where the water and the heavenly bodies (the galaxy) were created.

Verse 3 is where God actually starts to put things into action, and the first thing he says is "Let there be light" - I would say that at this point, the stars were given light. So you see, God did not in fact create light before he created stars. He created stars, and then gave them light.

2. In this sense, to seperate the water from the water, was when God made the sky. We have water in the ocean, and we have water in the clouds (as well as in other forms within the atmosphere), and the space between these masses of water is the space you and I walk around in.

Let me assure you, many people create "inconsistencies" about the Bible in their minds, because they don't want to accept the truth. People do not want to accept the truth, because society tells them that accepting God means "losing out on fun" or "being weird," but it doesn't have to be like that. You can put your faith in God and still live a full and happy life. There is not reason to search for inconsistencies in the Bible, because you'll actually find you're happier when you embrace the truth that the Bible is.

I hope that helps.

1. Light and other electromagnetic energy existed before stars whether you go by the Genesis account or not. The whole idea of the "Big Bang" theory is that the all the matter now in the universe flooded out from a singularity in the form of radiant energy (such as light). So, even by that account, which I believe is perfectly compatible with Genesis 1, light existed long before stars.

2. Theory 1: A sheet of water once orbited the earth. The expanse was the sky. The Great Flood was created partly by this water coming down upon the earth.

Theory 2: Clouds. Clouds are the water on the "other" side of the expanse.

In either theory, the expanse is the atmosphere or the lower atmosphere.

1. The "sun" is the light that was created first on the first day, since the sun is the nearest star to earth. The other stars were for the night anyway to light up the night sky. Light in daytime is a priority. Darkness is not. Evil lurks in darkness.

2. The "expanse between the waters to separate water from water" is the clouds above and the seas below. God created clouds to gather moisture from the seas and then hold them in the clouds in the form of rain, which goes over the seas and then over the land to provide water to the earth's vegetation.

This isn't rocket science. It's written in Genesis very clearly. I understood this when I was in my early teens. They also taught this to us in school in science class. Guess you don't learn this stuff in school anymore.

1. Light energy was left over from the Bang and emitted enough light for the plants to grow. Many scientists believe this.

2. We know there must have been a lot of hydrogen and oxygen around which comprises water.

3. When we apply the principle of Uniformitarianism when trying to figure out how the beginning happened we are destined to become frustrated. Quite simply, we have no way of knowing if the laws of physics as we know them applied in full force. Enter the theory of relativity....

God is able to do whatever he wishes.

1. I interpret those days as billions of years based on a confusing theory involving the relativity of time. That Big Bang thing made some light right? (Either way I consider this largely symbolic, and the importance is that YHWH made it, not exactly how he made it)

2. Well land would seperate water from water, but in the verses quoted I think it's talking about the creation of the atmosphere.

Because I trust God, who promised in both the old and new testaments to preserve his word, and he has done that.

The Codex Sinaiticus is NOT the oldest known BIBLE, it is the oldest known nearly complete NEW TESTAMENT, and if you'd like to READ it, it IS online: http://codexsinaiticus.org/en/

Not only are Donna and Paul M correct, but we also have the Dead Sea scrolls: http://www.centuryone.com/25dssfacts.htm…

There is much liberal theology on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_ma…

Nevertheless, there are enough facts that it is worth a read.

The original copies of any document would be called the Autograph copies...None of them exist for any book in the Bible...But that doesn't matter...God HIMSELF doesn't care, why should we?

Just how much value does God put on the originals?

To get the answer we must explore several chapters in the book of Jeremiah beginning with the famous passage in chapter 36 concerning the roll that Jeremiah had written.

In verse 21 the roll is brought before King Jehoiakim and read by his servant Jehudi.

According to verse 23 Jehudi read three or four leaves and King Jehoiakim cut it up with a penknife and cast it into the fire on the hearth until it was destroyed.

Thus ends ORIGINAL #1 !

Then the Lord moved Jeremiah to rewrite the roll adding some words to it. (Jeremiah 36:32)

Thus ORIGINAL #2 is born.

We are shown the text of this second original in Jeremiah 45-51 where it is reproduced for our benefit.

Jeremiah told Seraiah to read this roll when he came into Babylon. (Jeremiah 51:59-61) Then Jeremiah instructed Seraiah, after he finished reading the roll, to bind a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates river (Jeremiah 51:63)!

Thus ends ORIGINAL #2!

But wait! We have a copy of the text of the roll in chapters 45-51. Where did it come from? It came from a copy of original #2 which we can only call ORIGINAL #3!

So there are two very big problems for those who overemphasize the "originals".

(1) Every Bible ever printed with a copy of Jeremiah in it has a text in chapters 45-51 which is translated from a copy of the "second" original, or ORIGINAL #3. (2) Secondly, NO ONE can overlook the fact that God didn't have the least bit of interest in preserving the "original" once it had been copied and its message delivered. So WHY should we put more of an emphasis on the originals than God does? An emphasis which is plainly unscriptural.

Thus, since we have the text of the "originals" preserved in the King James Bible we have no need of the originals, even if they were available.

God HAS promised to PRESERVE his Word, and he HAS DONE that...

These OLD copies (such as the Codex Sinaiticus) agree 99%+ with KJV that can be purchased at most local bookstores, thus providing proof that God HAS preserved his word, as promised.

1. Are you saying the only thing that gives off light is stars?

2. take a cup of water. Pour half into another cup. Thus seperating water from water.

Elementary Watson. Stars do not give off light they reflect light.

The separation of waters was the separation of the firmament or clouds and water on the earth.

God didn't know that rain water comes from evaporation of moisture. Therefore, the bronze age men was trying to give a graphic picture that "heaven" has a storage of water.

"Separate water from water" means to separate water into 2 parts, those from the ground with those up above.

Smart Christians don't take the bible literally. God's days could actually be millions of years. Of course, I am a deist and therefore don't believe in the Bible, but I do believe in God. This is what I've interpreted it as.

As for number 2, I think he just meant land. :)

2.I don't recall reading that, then again, i don't remember these things.
