Hi
I just think it was so silly recently , that a local Christian school told their students not to dress up as witches, or Harry Potter, etc, in their "book week" character parade, because it was against their beliefs..
They don't even stock harry Potter books in the library- what are they so afraid of?
I wonder if they've banned "The wizard of Oz', as well as all the other books that have witches in the story..
I just think it's ridiculous..
Do you agree?

You should point out how many books have witches. And magic. Like fairy tales. Disney movies. Might as well ban all fiction. My Christian school did that too but I read it anyway. And got in trouble. But it was worth it.

1) what are they so afraid of?

They aren't afraid - well, not exactly. They believe that Harry Potter misleads young readers toward alternate religions (such as Wicca). In other words: they believe *from a religious standpoint* that Harry Potter books are a bad (that is: "unChristian") influence on children.

2) I wonder if they've banned "The wizard of Oz', as well as all the other books that have witches in the story..

Probably they have banned many such stories - but (obviously) not any story where a witch is portrayed as a villain! Such stories correspond with Christian teachings on magic and witchcraft.

3) I just think it's ridiculous..

Do you agree?

Ridiculous...no. Overprotective...yes.

"They stated children probably frightened by using witches and so forth.." If that's quite what the consultant from the university said, that's improper. Of direction there are things (actual things and things within the Bible) in an effort to scare youngsters. The cause to maintain kids from dressing up as witches or Harry Potter is that neither kids nor adults will have to emulate the evil that is witchcraft. It must now not be downplayed. It's evil and is a software utilized by devil to attract folks far from God - that means to drag them Hell. Whilst you realize what witchcraft is, it makes the determination to keep as some distance away from it as feasible and handy, logical, and required decision. The only two motives to play with witchcraft and/or Harry Potter is because you do not realise what it is, otherwise you come to a decision to include it.

So, let me get this right. They banned a book in which the main character is nearly killed as an infant because of a prophecy. They banned a book in which the main character inspires others to fight against evil. They banned a book in which love is the weapon that wins out over evil again and again. They banned a book in which the main character dies, but is resurrected to continue the fight and ultimately win the fight against evil. They banned that book? Have they even read that book???

Actually stop and think about this.

They actually believe in witch craft. That it's an actual or literal thing. Had they been alive during the Salem Witch trials, they would've cheered during the executions with enthusiasm.

If you actually think that witch craft is an actual thing (and there are bible passages stating to not let a witch live) you need to verbally admit to yourself right now "I am a f*cking idiot."

I don't have a problem with religion, but when they start telling kids about things that are wrong because of "religion", and no other reason, and the child grows up thinking that way, that's when I start having problems. It's a form of brainwashing.

Is it still okay for me to dress up as Baby Jesus smoking a cigar?

I don't agree with it, but ultimately it's their choice.
