Question:
Why did the LDS church excommunicate Maxine Hanks?

The only explanation seems to be that they were displeased because she published data indicating that Joseph Smith ordained women to the priesthood in 1843. Is there more too it than that?

Since the LDS church does not publicize why it excommunicates anyone, that leaves you with only one side of the story. And typically, you can only arrive at the truth when given both sides of any story.

In short, no one will know for sure unless the church releases it's reasons, which is not likely.

Because she didn't shut up and do as she was told like all Mormon cult members are supposed to.
