Are mormons the same as the Amish? do the mormons use technology etc.?

When I saw Harrison Ford's movie Witness it was dubbed to say he was living with the Mormons. And on the Tonight Show they had a skit mixing the Mormons together with the Amish. I'm not sure why.

The dubbing was incorrect.
The movie Witness had Amish characters and setting, not Mormons.
They are quite different.
The Amish here are very peaceful and devout and actually practice what they preach. They do not use technology. A mentally disturbed "outsider" here attacked one of their little school houses and killed about a dozen Amish children for no reason.
The Amish people reached out to this deranged maniac's wife and children in a truly inspiring display of forgiveness and Christian Charity.
People poke fun at them, but they are an amazing people.

There is no connection between the Amish and Mormons other than they are both Christians. The Mormons (The Church Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) were founded from the teachings of Joseph Smith, whom they consider a prophet, in the late 1820s. The Amish were formed in 1693 when a group of Swiss Mennonites, led by Jakob Ammann, left the Mennonite faith. The Mormons have a centralized church, while the Amish do not.
Most Mormons are completely mainstream. There is a small percentage of ultra conservative Mormons who live communally and dress conservatively. The Amish are divided into 8 separate groups. Some are ultra conservative and use very little modern technology, while some groups are less conservative and have adopted many modern devices into their lifestyle. None of the Amish groups live communally.

I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (which is commonly known as Mormon) plus I have Amish ancestry. If Mormons and Amish were the same thing and don't use technology, then why would I be on the Internet checking my e-mail and FaceBook, answering this Yahoo! Answers question, etc.?
Latter-day Saints and Amish are NOT the same. The Amish was organized in the 1600s in Switzerland (and immigrated to parts of the Eastern United States) founded by Jakob Ammann (1656-1730) whereas the LDS Church was organized in the 1800s in New York State founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. (1805-1844) and has its membership is worldwide headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Read about both seperate Christian sects at http://www.mormon.org http://www.lds.org and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish

mormons are different from amish
mormons can use modern technology whereas amish cannot use anything past the 17th century (?citation needed as i am too lazy to look it up)
yeah when english movies are dubbed into other languages it often gets messed up i live in Costa Rica right now and the spanish dubbed translations are abhorrent, even worse when you watch a comedy, because they miss jokes like in the Strangers With Candy movie when Jerri's teacher deliberately and snidely called her Mr. Blank the dub said Sta. Blank or Big Bang Theory i think i was watching and they were saying cup not cop but the transaltion was policia, totally did not make sense in the context of the conversation

Yeah, me neither.
I obviously use technology...I'm writing on this computer right?
I also don't know how to speak German, or Deutsch. I don't know how to make a barn, or make my own butter or bread, I have no idea how to be a carpenter, never had the interest. I also don't knit or make any sort of jellies or canned food. I don't make anything that can be sold in county fairs or flea markets. (The Amish are a group that live separate from the general population. They're completely self-sufficient in that they use only their skills to make a living.)
Mormons live just like regular people do in the general population and all over the world.
So, I'm a little puzzled too then.
This sounds like a misrepresentation of both groups.

No... Harrison Ford (in Witness) was living with the "Amish"... and Mormons use modern technology, not the Amish. The Amish are of "Dutch" descent & in Pennsylvania, they are often referred to as the "Pennsylvania Dutch"; they (along with the Mennonites) still speaks Dutch amongst themselves. The Mormon religion began in the USA & there is no "ethnic" association with them.

Mormons and Amish are completely different- not related at all. Maybe you're confusing Mormons with polygamists?
Mormons use technology and all modern things.

Hehe, when my brother told someone he was Mormon they asked him"don't you drive around in wagons?" His answer "no, that would be the Amish"
Us Mormons are very technological.

Mormons use technology. I do not know why this movie would project mormons with amish. except to the sect that claims to be mormon, but mormons don't claim them.

Mormons use technology, Amish don't. There's some other differences involving beards, etc.
