If homosexuality is wrong, so is getting tattooed. The same bible, the same book of the bible, that condemns homosexuality condemns those who get a tattoo:
Leviticus 19:28 Do not make gashes in your skin for the dead. Do not make any tattoo marks on your skin. I am God.

My mother always told me it was a sin to put a mark on my flesh.
It may be in the Bible. I haven't read it but I know that when I see tattoos it doesn't make me feel good. When I see tattoos I feel they look trashy. I have always felt this way. My son has one on his arm and my daughter has one on her back but I didn't like it.

The Body is a temple of God. We should not mistreat it by putting things that are a disgrace and unholy on our bodies. Unfortunately, I have a constant reminder that I mistreated my body. I have a Tattoo and there is not a day that goes by that I don't regret it now.

There are cultures that get tattoos as a part of a coming of age, religious or marriage ritual. In those cultures tattoos are considered beautiful or masculine and you are an out cast of you do not have tattoos.

Within Judaism and Christianity, tattooing is wrong. That's all I'm saying here on the issue.

There's a verse in Leviticus saying don't get tattooed. It's right after the verse where it says not to shave your beard or cut your hair. Just realize that there's some asinine biblical laws that you're ignoring.

It's not a sin to drink a glass of wine. But I don't do it, because it could cause a younger Christian to stumble, or cause a non-believer who has a problem - or has/had a family member with a problem with alcohol - to not get closer to God.
Can you be assured that for the rest of your life (that's how long tattoos last - you don't "wear" them, they become a part of you) that tattoo will not offend someone or hinder their moving towards Christ?

I believe the tattoos in the Holy Bible refer to symbolic things, such as those referring to slavery or branding ... could also refer to the "mark of the beast" a spiritual tattoo.
I have a couple tattoos, and I think they're pretty ... dresses me up for my husband when we're naked ... they're for his eyes only, though I was pleased with myself to be able to endure the pain of getting them ... like a right of passage, so I have showed them to a few friends & family.

Some will say no and others will say it doesn't matter. I have a tattoo, and I'm Christian.

How many souls do you know up in heaven with tattoo's? Like the other person said: Treat your body like a temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Paul taught that our bodies are temples and that we need to respect them. Would you put graffiti on a temple?

haha this is such a grey question, and if you have to ask on yahoo answers than you are definitely in the wrong place my friend -w here you should be looking is the Bible.
don't get me wrong, i know tehre is no verse that outright says "thou shalt not get tattoos" or what not, some ppl can take a verse and twist it the way that they want it. the fact of the matter is you need to figure out your own convictions. there are so many areas that are left up to our decision, and it is all a matter of a right heart with God. what is your purpose for getting that tattoo? will it offend someone else to the point where it is not worth it? are you bringing God glory through it? etc etc.
with that said, my husband has several tattoos and we are both christians. he has one on his wrist that has the fish on it and through it has had TONS of witnessing opportunities. many ppl. ask him what it means and why it's there. his mom is opposed to it but he had to get to a point where he had to figure out on his own if this was something he thought was unbiblical or not. everyone has their own opinion about something, but what matters is that if you are doing it to glorify God or not.

Tattoos have been part of religion since spirituality's conception. Why would it be unholy?

I wouldn't call it "UNHOLY" but it certainly isn't along the lines of holy or in showing respect and honoring ones body in my opinion. BUT I don't think it'll keep anyone out of 'heaven' per se....
so...where do you draw the spiritual line for yourself? That's your choice.

They will know you are a christian by your life, your living way, and by your love and truth that you speak in the name of Jesus.
Not so much by a cross.
Is it profitable? Ask Jesus what He thinks and he will speak by his SPirit into your spirit !

It is an expression that you are unsatisfied with the way that God created you, ie in His image. Therefore I say no.

I don't think it's unholy. But I'm not sure He'd want you to do it.
2009-10-14 14:22:59 UTC
Go for it.
Many cultures see it as a requirement, much like the Maori here, as to it being a sin..Pfft
Only if it looks like s*it.

I know lots of preachers with tats.
Usually they get them when they are locked up in a seminary. Is must be something about living in a cell makes you want them.

It depends where you look in the bible, I have talked to Church representatives and it depends on who you ask. One will say it is ok, and the other will say it's not. I can say that i know more Christians and religious people who say it is ok then say it is not.

There are verses in the Bible that states against marring the body.....it is your choice and something that should be between you and God

This is a bad idea. Please don't.

All you need to tell the people is that god said it.
Don't worry they'll believe you.
