John Lennon sang about it in the song "Come Together." I hadn't experienced too many Holy Rollers living in Boston most of my life. I did come into contact with more of them when I went to visit family in Oklahoma. Evangelicals were on several TV and radio stations. I can remember one radio broadcast my dad and I were listening to and the host of the show said "if I am lying to you listeners tonight, may the Good Lord remove my broadcast from the airwaves immediately." Just after the preacher said that, we lost the signal. In another instance, my dad showed my an advertisement in an Oklahoma City newspaper entitled "You are going to Hell!" and it listed reasons why you were on the highway to hell. The only chance of redemption was to send your check or credit card charge information to a PO Box in Oklahoma City. In another instance, my dad and I were driving through Armarillo, Texas on a detour road due to highway construction and ran into a Fire and Brimstone Evangelical meeting going on in town. I thought it was the Klan because guys were wearing the white robes and hoods with the masks and carrying torches. My dad said "no this is a Revival Meeting, Fire and Brimstone." Miracles were being performed. Shouting. Guys and gals at the microphones shouting Jesus Saves!
