False.

Believing in a god is primarily the product of environmental conditioning. Most believers are only believers because of their families and wider culture. The biggest obstacle to abandoning faith is this social dimension. Religion often becomes so intimately intertwined with personal and cultural identity that people are loath to cut out something they consider core to themselves.

There are many Gods in many different religions. Not all religions teach that Gods are omnipotent or that they control all things the happen on this planet. It's the "easy way" only in the sense that being single rather than married is the "easy way." Relationships, whether with Gods or with people, are hard, but rewarding.

And here's a curve ball for you...It's not "belief" that makes me a deist. I have DIRECT EXPERIENCE with the Divine. That's why I "believe." I have directly dealt with my Gods and have firm and incontrovertible experience that They are real. If you don't have that experience, it doesn't mean the Divine doesn't exist. It means you have failed to experience the Divine at this point in your life.

Just the opposite (for me)

I grew up in an atheist household, so the easy way would have been "oh, ok, no visible proof, no god" easy.

But I found the subject fascinating, studied many religions, read their texts. Looking for proofs, looking for 'universal' truths. Trying to find a religion that fits my core inner beliefs.

Not easy at all.

It would depend on what 'god' you believed in - some ask quite a bit of their followers, and if you actually believe devoutly, you won't be looking for (and will know the punishment for attempting to take) shortcuts.

As far as invoking 'god did it' to explain various phenomena - then yes, it is intellectually lazy (even if the person believes it).

How would you know--have you tried it. If you have tried it and still find it as the easy way out--you condemn yourself to an eternity without God. But that is your choice. Being a Christian in a sinful world is not the easy way out---it is easier to just be sinful.

Thinking you have all the answers without needing empirical study is the easy way but it's not a way out of anything because sooner or later reality will collide with your fantasies, usually on a battlefield.

Anytime one does not know the answer, then simply makes one up, is taking the easy way out, so, yes -

Believing in a god is taking the easy way out.

False, there are people who fear the afterlife every day and I can't imagine how hard that'd be! So no, I don't believe that believing in God is taking the easy way out!

The easy way out of what?

False. It's harder to wait on God and believe in what He will do for you than to take control and do something yourself.

Depends on your idea of easy, do you live in mecca?

Some christians are constantly worried that every day some sin might be committed that sends them to hell. Many of these people seriously fear the afterlife everyday... Doesn't sound easy to me...

For others yes, the ones that take the high ground and ignore everything that contradicts their belief.

"lalalalalalalalalala" "God did it, Boom!!! Nailed it.... Check mate atheists!!!".

Yes and no...

True because it's a very nihilistic view to limit your purpose in life to worshiping something you can't see and can't be proven. Why not make your purpose to use that emotional energy to love others?

And there's some sort of merit in doing things the hard way?

False. You think loving one's enemies is easy (Mt 5:44)?

Killing yourself would be the easy way out. You'll go straight to hell.

Believers are usually simply following the indoctrination of their youth, never questioning it. So yes, it is the easy way out, not the intellectual way.

When they're just going along with the crowd and not bothering to think, yes.

There is only ONE way. HIS way. To the finish line. BTW, God is capitalized. He died on the cross for our sins, that is the least you can do.

I don't see how beliefs can be described as "easy" or "hard".

You don't control what you think is true.

Jesus said:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
