Question:
Why do most people worship a crucified Jewish carpenter as God? Are they stupid?
anonymous

1. Jesus of Nazareth existed [1].
2. Jesus of Nazareth was a carpenter [2].
3. Jesus of Nazareth was executed via crucifixion [3].

Note: Jesus of Nazareth was nothing more than a 1st century Jewish carpenter, who was executed by the means of crucifixion.

1. (“No one. No one in scholarly circles dealing with ancient Judaism and early Christianity, of any religious or non-religious persuasion holds the view that Jesus never existed. You’re entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own truth.”) —Larry Hurtado, specialist in New Testament and Christian origins, former Professor of New Testament Language, Literature & Theology (University of Edinburgh).

2. (Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.) Mark 6:3, English Standard Version (©2001)

3. (“Jesus death as a consequence of crucifixion is indisputable.”) - Atheist Gerd Ludemann-The Resurrection of Christ, Pg 50.

My worship of Jesus brings me peace hope love reconciliation of my marriage joy in my family trust in God's provision for me and healing of chronic sickness. I never lie and never worry even though my son has a life threatening sickness I sleep in peace and am very positive about the future to deny myself these things because people of no faith or another faith cannot comprehend the miracle that Jesus the Jewish carpenter from Nazareth did on my behalf that would be the stupid move.

We believe it because we believe this carpenter was the son of God and died for our sins.

1. We have freedom of religion. You can just deal with that right now.

2. You just called me and a WHOLE LOT of people stupid. Don't say you didn't because it's right there *points to screen*

3. Yes, so you've proved he existed and that he was crucified. You've also proved that people knew who he was and that Mary had more children after him. How does this help your argument?

4. You're using the bible, which tells of Jesus doing miracles, as your second point about Jesus, which apparently is some argument against him. (this doesn't make much of an argument though, just says things everyone agrees on about him and shows books and people that say so)

5. You're going to be angry that I don't agree with you. At least, a lot of people will be angry that I'm not an Atheist that thinks Christians are stupid. Before you disagree with me on this, why don't you look at any other question like this? Because it seems to me that if you're a Christian on the internet everyone hates you.

6. Questions like these and their responses (from both sides) make me extremely argumentative with the want to defend my religion, as they should any person. Consider this my apology if I've managed to offend anyone or say something incredibly stupid. (We're all capable of it.)

Even the Old Testament prophets started out as something other than prophets; their ministries were given to them by God.

Even though Jesus' adoptive father Joseph was a carpenter, and Jesus might well have learned that trade, it does not mean he was condemned forever to be only that. Remember Jesus' visit to the Temple at age twelve; his parents found him in the Temple teaching even the religious leaders. As he told them, "I must be about my Father's business," meaning that His mission from God was known to Him already; He had to wait for the right time; for John the Baptist to "prepare the way of the Lord" before Him. When the time was right, Jesus began His ministry.

Yes, Jesus was crucified. But as the Orthodox hymn for the Transfiguration (when Jesus appeared to shine in the presence of Peter, James, and John) explains, "Thus, when they see You crucified, they may understand Your voluntary passion" [1]; that is, He gave Himself up willingly "for the life of the world" [2] as the prayers in the Divine Liturgy say.

You say, "Note: Jesus of Nazareth was nothing more than a 1st century Jewish carpenter, who was executed by the means of crucifixion." Quite an assertion, but wrong. In fact, according to the witness of all the gospel writers and the early Christians, Jesus was God in human form, the incarnation of God the Word -- the second person of the Holy Trinity.

Forgive me.

Roman records and Pilates own diaries show no one by that name was executed, no one was executed on the date xtians claim. The supposed 'early xtians' were followers of Yishai HaNotzri was was executed by Alexander Janneaus in 78 BCE

the jc character is a compilation of ALL demigods created by the Roman Empire

xtianity was formed by Rome for 2 reasons:

1.) to unite the Roman Empire that was threatening to divide again due to religious wars within its borders

2.) in an attempt to gain new territory for the Roman Empire using the common people rather than military effort

There is nothing wrong with Gentile, and refers to any person who is not of the Jewish faith in other words whether you are Christian, Muslim, Pagan or Wiccan you are a Gentile. Secondly Christians are called Christians because Christ created our religion and we believe in him as the Messiah. He is not God at all. So exactly what is the problem with the whole concept that you seem to be struggling with. @ Josh being as I am a Catholic born, raised and practicing I have no problem with what you have said. On my side I was talking in general and placing Chrisitanity under one roof as a way of answering the question on hand.

Even if you don't believe he was a Messiah, he was in the very least a man full of immeasurable love and great wisdom. He gave everything he had to helping others, even when the rest of society saw some of the company he spent time with as nothing but worthless sinners. He instead took the time to care and be there for anyone who ever crossed his path. He is someone worth emulating, as he is the definition of what it is to love to others unconditionally.

Don't be deceived into believing that Jesus isn't the Messiah. A truly intelligent person would do their due diligence on a matter before making up their minds because one can never really know what it is that they don't know. Check out this link and do some serious research because IF YOU ARE WRONG about Jesus, you will literally have hell to pay:

God bless you. I am praying for you.

Don't call people stupid because you disagree with their beliefs. That isn't helpful. But I do agree with your argument, Jesus was a real person who was crucified by the Roman authorities for claiming to be the king of the Jews.

God came to earth in the form of man. Jesus Christ was 100% God and 100% human, He is alive and sits at the right hand of God. On judgment day, you will see His nail scared hands and feet and every knee will bow and every tongue profess that He is the Son of God.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus was the Son of God.

Even scholars believe the Christian Savior existed. Scholars call the Bible a "historical document."

Not stupid, we just have a personal story of how we were miraculously saved out of a really bad situation when we cried out to God thru Jesus Christ...

You won't accept that until you have your OWN story...

Jesus never asked anyone to worship him, but people just did it anyways and it seems Jesus didn't really care. but I dont worship Jesus, I worship God. Jesus is the son of God, Mark 1:11.

Problem with your thesis is there's a 3 year gap between Him doing carpentry work and dying on the cross. It's those three years that make Him Lord and Savior.

John 3:19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of the light because their deeds were evil.
