I hope I have understood your question properly... and in that hope, i am attempting an answer :
well,
some metaphors are created in this world, to motivate.... or to give a true and deep perspective or insight.
take christ of example, he is supposed to have said (words to that effect)
if thy eye is single, you can see God or enter the kingdom of heaven.....(I dont remember the exact words.. sorry).
does it mean, we should pluck one eye out of our socket ? haha. NO.
he further said "if you have little of it, that also will be taken away... if you have somethign, more will be added to it "...... isn't it funny !?
the list is endless..
perhaps Christ means that you have to single pointedly concentrate and meditate on God...have a single vision.. a single eye.
if you have little of faith, that too will be taken away ....if you have some faith then more will be added to it.
the second part of your question says like 'seeing your own eyes, hearing your own ears'.. i dont think it is stupid.
in very high stages of meditation, the meditator is not aware of his own physical identity. He is above it....(not physically but spiritually)... Then he may hear the divine music thru his 'inner ears which are finer than the phsyical ones..... He may see thru his inner eyes, what the physical eyes cannot see,,,, He/she may smell things which are out of this world.... he/she may feel and interact with conciousness which is not possible physically.
Its like the celebrated American DJ used to say at the end of every top 40 "keep reaching for the stars but keep your feet on the ground"
if we take it 'inspiringly'... it is crystal clear that we should keep aiming high but never forget our own physical realities which are finite... a person who is making 1,000 dollars can aspire to reach the 10,000 or 100,000 figure... but if he aspires for 100 billions .. well (surely exceptions are there)....most probably he/she will feel dejected and hopeless if the dream dosent come true,.
if we take the American DJ's words physically, then well, haha.......you can imagine humans elongating their physical body to 68,000 feet (and counting)......while their shoes are stuck in dry cement on earth.
hope this helps....certainly...i enjoyed answering it.
