Question:
Those of you who don't believe in God or Creation...?

How do you explain "Phi" in nature?

Phi: God's mathematical equation to creation?

Phi=1.618 0339 887 is just an irrational number with many unusual properties.
Usually called the divine proportion and the golden section, it appears on the
proportion of the human body and parts of the human body e.g.the ratio of your
forearm to your hand is 1.618. It is also present in most animals ex. The eyes,
beak, wing and key body markings of the penguin all fall at golden sections of its height,
The body sections of an ant are defined by the golden sections of its length. Its leg
sections are also golden sections of its length. The DNA molecule, the program for all life,
is based on the golden section. It measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide for
each full cycle of its double helix spiral.34 and 21, of course, are numbers in the Fibonacci
series and their ratio, 1.6190476 closely approximates phi, 1.6180339.
There are countless evidences that lead to phi including the dimensions of the earth and moon,
and the measuremnt of the ark of the covenant is also phi related. In Exodus 25:10,
God commands Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant, in which to hold His Covenant
with the Israelites, the Ten Commandments, saying,
"Have them make a chest of acacia wood-
two and a half cubits long,
a cubit and a half wide,
and a cubit and a half high."

The ratio of 2.5 to 1.5 is 1.666..., which is as close to phi (1.618 ...)
There are countless other proofs that i have failed to mention and it is arguable that this equation is present in relationships throughout the universe. Is this God's personal signature?

That's an example of confirmation bias. You start with the conclusion then cherry-pick information that agrees with it, ignoring all the rest that doesn't.

"the ratio of your forearm to your hand is 1.618"

- Which part of the hand? There are lots of ways to measure a hand, you just picked the one that is closest to the number you wanted to get. How close is it? How much variation? What's the source of your data?

"The eyes, beak, wing and key body markings of the penguin... "

- Which species of penguin? There are 16. Do they all display the same ratios? If not, why not? There are over 12,000 species of ant. Do they all have the same proportions?

"The DNA molecule... measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide"

- No it doesn't. It is very hard to give a figure for the width of a DNA molecule because it has an irregular shape so it depends which points you measure across. Estimates range from 20 to 25 angstroms. The dimensions of the DNA molecule are totally dependent on its chemical structure, which in turn is necessary for its functionality. They could not have been "tweaked" by a designer to fit a certain ratio.

"34 and 21, of course, are numbers in the Fibonacci series"

- But the angstrom is a man-made unit. How did God know how big we would make the angstrom?

"dimensions of the earth and moon"

- Ratio of diameters 3.668. Nowhere near.

"2.5 to 1.5 is 1.666..., which is as close to phi (1.618 ...)"

- As close as what? It is 3% out! They were craftsmen, they could have made it exact. Is "near enough" good enough for what is supposedly one of the most important objects in human history?

"Is this God's personal signature?"

- No

There could be a number of different reasons. Some may be due to mathematical laws underlying nature, some could be coincidence (especially if you are willing to make an approximation, as you did with the ark). Some could be completely false but you have just not bothered to check them, as appears to be the case with "the dimensions of the earth and moon", the Earth having a mean radius of 6,371.0 km, and the moon of 1,737.10km, giving a ratio of 3.6676

Why would it be God's personal signature? How do you read intentionality into a physical constant? Golden ratio, pi, Planck's constant, the speed of light, etc. are all number we have measured. All we know is that those are the numbers. We don't know where they came from or if they even came from anywhere. It would be silly to assume a humanoid mind came up with them, for there is no evidence so far that humanoid minds create the laws of physics, let alone the universe.

Biologically it works well it is functional. Why would it be surprising after countless generations of trial and error that these proportions are the standard?

Speaking of math and your invisible friend, didn't the bible say Pi is 3 instead of the irrational number that starts out 3.14159?

Sorry don't do Maths, But a lot of the things you enjoy the benefits from were created by Non believers in Science,Medical Science and Technology. Because they did not sit on their *** and wait for god to come up with it

There's nothing to explain, and an invisible magic man in the sky sure isn't an explanation. It's just humans looking for patterns where there are none to be found. If you're fixated on the number 1.6 and you look hard enough, you'll inevitably find something.

??????

How does this provide evidence for a god??? Especially yours...

I could claim it proves Zeus and it would make as much sense...

So which came first, the circle or Pi? And why is Pi not repeating? I thought god was perfect... why the variation?

What does not believing in God have to do with Math?

Not believing in God has to do with one thing, and one thing only: Your total lack of evidence.

But! For the sake of your Purely Ignorant argument, lets ASSUME that "Phi" Is INDEED an intelligently designed number.....

How do you PROVE it was the Christian God who was the designer, and not the Hopi Earth Mother?

SURLY you can't be this stupid.

People can make answers. But not reason. (This is your so called freewill.)

God can make reason. But not answer. (This is your so called fate and chance.)

Hope it helps.

perceptual vigilance- look it up

there are lots of random numbers, and a lot of things in existence. not that surprising a few happened to be very close

any unrepented sin leads to hell. antichrist rules from jerusalem. euro is his currency. demons fly in ufo ships. no aliens exist. nobody lives on other planets. 666 tattoo by lasers is given when people stretch hands to receive small grey plastic world passport. police will laser people on the highways. food stores will be set up to laser people too. rfid chips and electronic tattoos are used to track people to laser them. unforgivable sins are: suicide, worship of antichrist, and 666 tattoo by lasers. pray to Jesus to save you from hell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxtONT4mirk&feature=plcp

Stop. Please stop.

"Which is close to phi" isn't good enough.

Just shut up okay? If you are a good Christian, you shouldn't judge! It says that in the bible, does it not?
