Question:
Where did the water from the "great flood" myth go?

Apparently it covered the highest mountain peak. Where idk it all go? Did God use a magic straw to suck it out into space? Cause it's definitely not on this planet or we wouldn't be talking about it.

29 First, is not the idea of the whole earth’s being flooded too farfetched? Not really. Indeed, to some extent the earth is still flooded. Seventy percent of it is covered by water and only 30 percent is dry land. Moreover, 75 percent of the earth’s fresh water is locked up in glaciers and polar ice caps. If all this ice were to melt, the sea level would rise much higher. Cities like New York and Tokyo would disappear.

30 Further, The New Encyclopædia Britannica says: “The average depth of all the seas has been estimated at 3,790 metres (12,430 feet), a figure considerably larger than that of the average elevation of the land above the sea level, which is 840 metres (2,760 feet). If the average depth is multiplied by its respective surface area, the volume of the World Ocean is 11 times the volume of the land above sea level.”14 So, if everything were leveled out—if the mountains were flattened and the deep sea basins filled in—the sea would cover the whole earth to a depth of thousands of meters.

31 For the Flood to have happened, the pre-Flood sea basins would have to have been shallower, and the mountains lower than they are now. Is this possible? Well, one textbook says: “Where the mountains of the world now tower to dizzy heights, oceans and plains once, millions of years ago, stretched out in flat monotony. . . . The movements of the continental plates cause the land both to rear up to heights where only the hardiest of animals and plants can survive and, at the other extreme, to plunge and lie in hidden splendor deep beneath the surface of the sea.”15 Since the mountains and sea basins rise and fall, it is apparent that at one time the mountains were not as high as they are now and the great sea basins were not as deep.

32 What happened to the floodwaters after the Flood? They must have drained into the sea basins. How? Scientists believe that the continents rest on huge plates. Movement of these plates can cause changes in the level of the earth’s surface. In some places today, there are great underwater abysses more than six miles [more than 10 km] deep at the plate boundaries.16 It is quite likely that—perhaps triggered by the Flood itself—the plates moved, the sea bottom sank, and the great trenches opened, allowing the water to drain off the land.

probably back into the waters of heaven above the firmament. Remember this story was an old story, even at the time Moses wrote it down. People didn't really have a firm concept of how the universe and world worked. In the 1600s that people started to accept a heliocentric view of the solar system, and it wasn't until the mid to late 1800s that people started to think the universe might be more than 6000 years old.

But as you say, it is merely a myth, then what difference does it make? The water magically disappears, having no effect on the non-myth real world or the myth narrative.

Where Did the Floodwaters Go?

Evidently they are right here on earth. Today there is about 1.4 billion cu km of water on the earth. It covers more than 70 percent of the globe’s surface.

The average depth of the oceans is (2.5 mi); average elevation of the land is only (0.5 mi) above sea level.

If the earth’s surface was smoothed out, it would all be covered with water to a depth of (8,000 ft)

actually it is before the flood the water clouds were above the earth and kept the planet like a tropical hot house. They have found whole cities under the oceans.

When the water fell it was a catismic event that even ripped continients apart. Most of the land area was inhabited. Today the weight of the water pushed up mountains and created huge low places which became seas. Just as Hawain Islands are actuallfy the tops of mountains. Some continients are floating pieces of earths crust. If you put wells in Dos Palos CA and dig down you can bring up salt water. Some of California is floating on sea water. Use to live there. Now 2/3's of the planet is water. With deep water basins of sea water.

The geological evidence of those huge floods exists. Do the research. This planet has been through a lot. Just because none of those things are happening right now doesn't mean that they didn't happen in the past. There have been worldwide floods, colossal volcanic eruptions that clouded the skies for many years, huge earthquakes, and more. As I said, do the research and stop using the word "myth" to describe things you have no understanding of ...

Since the bible unequivocally states the earth is flat, Christian nutjobs who assert that the bible isn't a series of ludicrous myths, think the water from Noah's flood just cascaded over the edges of the earth and fell back into the "water canopy". Rolls eyes

Where did the water go?

It went into the ocean.

At the time of the great flood of Noah's day, there was only one continent on the earth. And the mountain ranges that we know today did not exist.

It was almost 100 years after the flood when God separated the one continent into the continents we have today. And at that time, as God forced the plates together, that the mountain ranges were formed. God separated the continents in anticipation for the Tower of Babel incident. This is when God scrambled the languages, and also scattered people all over the face of the earth. (God wanted groups of people separated from each by oceans, which forced them to develop their own culture, and live independently from the rest of the world.) The Tower of Babel incident happened about 100 years after the great flood.

=========== (Added)

Where in the bible does it say God separated the one continent into what we have today? Do you see the part that says "the earth was divided?"

"To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan." (Genesis 10:25)

And when was that? To figure out when this happened, we get that info from the geology list. Here's a part.

Genesis 11:16 Eber lived 34 years, and begot Peleg

Genesis 11: 18 Peleg lived 30 years, and begot Reu

Piecing this together, and we know it was around 95 years after the great flood. And the Tower of Babel was around 100 years after the flood.

Like any other flood the waters receded from off the face of this earth. Like any other weather system the source for the water stopped falling and no more rain.

See, back then the world was flat. Then came the great flood and all the water running off eroded the edges until the planet was nearly round - as it is to this very day.

I am sure you have seen flood on TV. How deep is a flood? There isn't any detail about the bible flood. Could it be knee high or slightly higher or lower or there was no flood.

Over 70 percent of the surface of the earth is covered with water. From where did all this water come?

IMO, that is an assumption only grounded in our English translations.

The Hebrew word translated as "highest mountain" simply means "high point" - which can be a mountain or may not be depending on the topology in the area.

My view is that the flood was in the region of the Mesopotamian basin, not global. It covered the world of humankind /at the time/.

2 Peter 2:5 tell us that God "brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly", not necessarily the entire globe.

The Bible God can zap the whole solar system into existence, so why shouldn't He be able to zap a layer of water into and out of existence?

Magic. The whole story is just magic. Apparently that god could make things appear and disappear. Rather than painlessly poofing all the evil people out of existence he wanted the terror not just of people drowning but animals too.
