It started as a joke, and it is still a joke. But it has caught on far more than the original intention. The initial purpose was to argue with the Kansas City school board in a case involving an attempt to insert religious studies into school. The argument was that if they were going to talk about religion, they had to include all religions, including the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Since that time, there have been other attempts to rally atheists and agnostics around symbols which are acknowledged to be inventions. I prefer the Invisible Pink Unicorn, myself. I love the paradox of how do you know she's pink if she's invisible?

i'm the Pastaman! i admire the linguini. eat up the fettuccini. you may no longer anticipate human beings to take the FSM heavily. It became into proposed as an occasion of ways rediculous the believes of politically radical Christians have been. They of course did no longer like being ridiculed. FSM is in simple terms as achievable. a minimum of as genuine a thank you to describe what is going on because of the fact the ideals of many non secular human beings. the factor became into that they must look at what they suspect. New religions consistently take a protracted time to alter into popular. Christianity took abt 3 hundred years.

Of course it's serious. The rise of pastafarianism is directly related to the increase of Somali pirates.

You can't prove that the Flying Spaghetti Monster does not exist, so I'm afraid it would be illogical and arrogant for you to be an atheist in regards to Him, you'll have to call yourself an agnostic.

It offends me that you doubt the existence of the sacred semolina. May you be forever separated from the joys of al dente, and the primal thrill of Bolognese.

Yes and no.

No, in that it's not actually a religion (and by that I mean 'may his noodley appendage touch you' of course).

Yes, in that it identifies a person as an advocate of critical thinking, intelligence, and good humor.

*eyeroll* It is a facecious analogy of religion showing that you might as well believe in a flying spaghetti monster as to believe in a god. They are both just as mythical.
