For Atheism only 2.5% of that group are Radical Atheists/ Anti - religious who specifically go about complaining, and going to sites, like this, to berate Religion. The other 11% - 12% belong to the more moderate agnostic group, who. This group includes the " do not know " or " Do not care ".

Please cite your source, which group do you take your figures from?

I have seen several web sites that claim figures like these. I have an old chart, (from christian sources) I keep meaning to update, but I do not believe it is that far out of date. My figures would suggest 53%, not including Judaism, (<1%).A minimum of 4% classified as atheist and 15% of no religion. I have 4% as tribal and 4% as Chinese Folk Tradition..

But as I said my figures need updating, (and I also need two other sources to update from so please cite your source.)

Atheists, depending on whose figures you believe, represent between 10% and 15% of the population of USA and Canada. Even more in certain European countries, as much as 20%, ( although I do not believe the 35% quoted on one Baptist website.) So, there is more chance of running into Atheists in Western Educated, Industrialised, Rich, Democratic Countries.

Edit. This is what an old man gets for being hasty, spelling mistakes..........

2nd Edit. I forgot Vietnam. Over 70% Atheist.

A group doesn't have to be big to be important. For instance, Jews comprise less than one percent of the world's population, and yet have won over 22% of the Nobel Prizes awarded in the world. In any endeavor, numbers don't matter unless they're the RIGHT numbers.

And I'm NOT an atheist.

Because they live in a world of science, technology and seeing is believing and Faith is imaginary.

They were taught by college dickwads how to be atheist. Those dickwads teach them to be independent researchers which really doesnt work out since they dont ever, at all get any REAL evidence of anything they research.

Like this one Tongan asshole who said Britain was cruel to the Polynesians when that was false. And that Abel Tasman carried a military and black birded the polynesians. Not true at all, he went to thailand and died there. He only had 40 guns and 4 cannons for 300 sailors with n o military experience against 8,000,000 polynesians.

"I wrote this same thing to an athiest now I will write it to you as well!

What would Jesus do? Jesus was merciful when he was here. He stood by his convictions but never in crulitity even to those that crusified him. So I guess I do not understand how anyone who believes so deepple in him can contradict everything he stood for!

I believe it depends entirely on each persons own choice and disposition!

Yes in some cases there are people that ride on there beliefs as a card to dismiss other people. But Weather they are faith based or not I think when it comes down to... Those people would do it religion or not as a factor! Some people capitalize on their beliefs weather it be faith, no faith, politics, civil rights, or anything else and they treat people rudely who simply do not agree with them!

And then there are people who are able to overlook differences in believes and can express their beliefs faith or no faith sincerely with out any fowl play!

I have seen both people with Faith, With-out Faith, Gay, Straight, Married, Not Married, With Children, With-out Children, With Education, With-out Education, Rich, Poor, Black, White, Conservative, Liberal: Ect, Ect.... Be both despicable on capitalizing on their beliefs and dismissing and minimizing others and I have seen people that are trully kind people!

It is just abut character some people have it others do not!

I see what your saying because I have known many people with religion to have an arrogance about their beliefs, I have also seen that same arrogance resignate with Atheisists!

I think alot of times the biggest barrior is people that generalize and stereotype and are not able to look into why someone from another side believes the things they do!

Because they are the group that go by facts. People with facts have the most power and are the most influential. Most Scientists are atheist or not religious. Most Asians and Buddhists are athiest.

I ought to 2d that final remark of yours-- in spite of how irritated or indignant i've got been at an atheists insensitive or mocking remark, i've got under no circumstances felt hated via them, or in risk. I under no circumstances relatively hesitate to tell an atheist that i'm a heathen, yet i do no longer think of i've got ever pop out and only pronounced it to a Christian. that's in basic terms a thoroughly distinctive feeling-- whether the atheist is like, "it is strange," they do no longer see me as some form of demon.

Statistically we're the smallest group, therefore we're insignificant?

The opposite viewpoint is always important, right or wrong, big or small.

Not sure how to judge a groups importance outside of fulfilling physiological needs for the survival organisms, that only need one true think to exist, consumption. Not any kind of theism.

Because we are!

All children are born Atheists, every natural creature in the universe is nauseous at the idea of organized religion.

By the way, there are many more Atheists than2%...

In Europe almost everyone is, for starters..

They are a big important group. 2.3% of 7 billion is 161 million people.
2010-11-29 02:17:39 UTC
They have nothing else to lean on. If you take away the groups and the safety in numbers they would crumble.
2010-11-29 14:31:50 UTC
I think you meant Christians?

They don't. Atheists are not "a group" and neither are Agnostics. Leave 'em be.

When have we ever boasted our numbers? If anything, we boast out lack of numbers. Proving our eliteness amongst the mentioned few above.

Your statistics add up to bull$hit.

You didn't cite any source for your statistics.

Rhetorical question assuming that this is in fact what atheists think. Not true, we know we are a minority. Next rhetorical bs "question" please.
2010-11-29 02:14:01 UTC
Percentages has nothing to do with importance
2010-11-29 02:16:53 UTC
Because we are the largest minority. There are millions of us.
2010-11-29 02:14:56 UTC
because we don't need religion and old text to tell us how to live.
