Question:
Can anyone recommend any revisions to my Unholy Trinity of Evangelical Christian Untruths That Kill?

Many times people point to the Inquisition and the Crusades and the Witch Trials as examples of why "Christianity is so bad". But that stuff is old news. People aren't doing that in industrialized countries today. However, there are still horrible conservative Christian practices that KILL PEOPLE. Here is my Unholy Trinity, as a former evangelical Christian American:

1. Prescribing fanatical religious practices like prayer, scripture memorization, and MORE CHURCH as a cure for mental illnesses. (suicide and psychotic violence against others result)
2. Assigning God-originated guilt and shame to homosexual/bisexual/transgender kids who already feel isolated from society simply because of a sexual orientation they have no control over, and promoting homophobia by asserting that homosexuality is an 'abomination'. (again, suicide, hate crime, and murder result)
3. Evangelical support of bombing anyone who doesn't agree that the US is the Christian nation that God likes the best, and anyone who opposes us anywhere in the world gets what they deserve. (state-sponsored murder results)

Does anyone have suggestions on refining these Untruths, or do I have it down pretty solidly. Again, this only applies to conservative evangelical Christianity. I'm not suggesting all Christians do these things. Many Christians are opposed to all three.

something to the effect of:

god gave humans dominion over animals & nonchristians ARE animals......it's a subtle attitude for many, a battle cry for others....

PS: lets see if we can all spot the post that is a perfect example of this attitude.....

I think you have a good start, but there are so many more.

4. Evangelical support of any war in the Middle East because they pray it will bring on Armageddon, they just can't wait to die and float off to Never Never Land.

5. Millions of deaths from AIDS in Africa because of a religious proscription against condoms.

6. Killing women by denying them safe medical care.

Let's have a new question asking for a list...K? There are plenty more and lots of smart alecks here to work it...

By oversimplifying and misrepresenting the verse that says "he who does not work should not eat" we get this idea that society at large is not obligated to take care of the poor. After all, they are too lazy to work, and therefore should not eat.I think this attitude is part of the reason we have more of a homeless problem in the USA then in places like west europe and Japan.

I think you've pretty much got it pinned down. I can attest to #1, I went to a Christian councilor for severe depression and anxiety right before I became an atheist and it nearly drove me over the edge, to make matters worse, I had to pay for it.
