Question:
God of the gaps theory?
2008-11-21 19:11:35 UTC
Okay atheists you can't just label something to make it sound stupid and that automatically makes it false.

1.) the first law of thermodynamics a proven fact shows that all energy is eternal
2.) Scientists have proven that the universe has not always existed.
3.) the universe had to of come from somewhere and must have been very intelligent to create the laws of physics biology, evolution, etc.

Also as a side note to my fellow Christians: don't tell people their going to hell, the best way to show people that God exists by showing people the love of God.

1) energy can not be created or destroyed is what you mean. Therefore the universe has always existed for ever before now. Even before the big bang for ever. So how do we get to now if that the case. God exists outside of time. He created the universe and gave it a begining. so Creation wins in that arguement.

2) See above.

3) Gods seems to be intelegent enough to have done that.

A universe that always existed doesnt make sense to me, but God always existing does.

The following quote is a great way to go about your life, and i would love to see more people acting like that on this site.

1. Matter = energy. Energy = matter. It all could be something that explodes and implodes in an endless loop. We don't know yet. (Edit: okay, according to Shawn we do, so *I* just don't know. 8D)

2. Not really. We've proven the universe didn't always exist in this form. We know there was a Big Bang, but we don't know what caused it. Could have been two huge objects, could have been something else. See 1.

3. Naw.

Edit: Oh, and the GoTG argument relies on the "because we don't know, it must be god" claim, not on thermodynamics or your interpretation of it.

You are confused because you misunderstand. The First Law of Thermodynamics is posited as: In any process, the total energy of the universe remains the same. It can also be defined as: for a thermodynamic cycle the sum of net heat supplied to the system and the net work done by the system is equal to zero.

You have just filled the gaps in your knowledge with God. Did you do that to prove a point of irony?

The universe comes from a series of expansion and contraction. When the universe contracts the energy becomes a singularity again, before it re-expands (explodes) into another universe of matter.

There now, I have graciously filled your gap. No god needed.

You are basically arguing that all things have a starting and ending point, correct?

If so then your god would have to have a starting point. This would be the energy that caused the big bang, so your god could be the energy which is why he no longer speaks to people as your Bible says he did and instead is embroiled in all things and thus is the universe and not a spirit nor being but all of nature.

And that intelligent person was what, YOUR god? And who made he/she/it? Where did the creator of that creator come from?

Btw, science doesn't claim to know everything. Science also doesn't half-*** things and just throw their hands up in the air and say, "I don't know! Must have been god!" Maybe one day we'll really know about the creation of the universe, maybe not. Perhaps we'll have a better understanding if the LHC ever gets up and running properly.

"3.) the universe had to of come from somewhere and must have been very intelligent to create the laws of physics biology, evolution, etc."

You don't understand thermodynamics very well, do you?

You can't fill the gaps in our scientific knowledge with God. That's never worked out before, Eclipses were once considered acts of God.

Sometimes the correct answer is "We don't know."

You lack knowledge in the area of Physics

FAIL

EDIT:

Then what intelligent being created that deity, and that deity, and that deity, and so on into infinity

and to your 2nd point, the Universe AS WE KNOW IT has not always existed...

I suggest reading up on string theory

You're right, we can't just label something to make it sound stupid. All we can do is read your question. That takes care of it all on its own.

As a side answer: Some people respond to the Love of God, but some respond to the judgment of God. Every case is different so i wouldn't be so quick to assume you are correct in your side note.

I'm Catholic, my mom is Catholic, my brother is Catholic, we all believe in the Big Bang. Does that make us bad Christians? No.. of course not.

well there is one exception when your telling someone to go to hell when, the person named brodie, who wants to kill all jews when he becomes a air pilot...wait for the most confusing part hes jewish and GERMAN!
