Atheism is a LACK of a belief in God. No more, no less. To answer your other questions, I believe my paycheck will come next friday, if we are using the term 'believe' to mean a psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true. That answers several of them. If you're asking if I celebrate christmas, yes I do. Why? Because it's a nice time for my family and friends to get together in the middle of a harsh winter and show that we care for one another. I do hope to be alive when the sun rises, but I can't be sure. The 'no atheists in foxholes' quote is meant to say, in my opinion anyway, that when your life is danger people may call upon a higher power, or 'pray' that they live. I find this silly. Plenty of atheists, in the military especially, have come to grips with their own mortality as a necessity.

>what do athiest "believe" in?

Regarding WHAT?

>do they "believe" or have "faith" that their next paycheck will be in the bank from their employer?

Oh, you're trying to argue the equivocation logical fallacy.

>do athiest celebrate CHRISTmas?

I celebrate having time off. Do you celebrate easter? Do you know which goddess it's named after?

>i once heard from a military man "that you'll never find an athiest in a foxhole"! is that true?

No, it's a lie.

Atheist is singular. Atheists plural. 'Athiest' is not a word. Unless of course athi means something and 'athiest' means the most 'athi' of something. === Also unless it's at the beginning of a sentence there is no reason to capitalize it. === "Is that why people who address "athiest" always seem to address more than one person." I can only speculate that either they're ignorant of the correct spelling or they do it intentionally to get people to correct them.

I believe in things that are supported by evidence.

I celebrate Christmas, because my family does and I like getting presents.

I can't comment on atheists & war since I'm not a soldier, but I've had near-death experiences and I never once prayed to God so whatever.

I believe in me and my abilities.

I'll call on help from family or friends if I need it.

I don't need an imaginary space superman to give my life meaning

"that you'll never find an athiest[sic] in a foxhole"

1. It's spelled athEist... why is that so hard for you people?.

2. That is absolute Boolshit !

Every soldier knows he can only get outa trouble by his own efforts or those of his mates... NO imaginary space dudie is gonna come swooping down to take him to safety.

It's never happened; it will not happen.

We believe in whatever the typical person does - e.g., history, science, humanity, family, art - minus theistic belief.

"do athiest celebrate CHRISTmas?"

Many do. It's originally a pagan holiday stolen by the Christians.

"is that true?"

Not by a long shot.

"is there no prayer?"

Who would we pray to?

I've always been a fan of logic....

And no. I don't have faith my paycheck will be in the bank. I go get it in person because I work for people who often can't do math and usually can't mail a check.

Atheist do not believe in anything. They see everything as in a state of flux & series of accidents.they are incapable of realizing the nature of themselves, the universe and how it is all connected.

Since they do not see our life & existence with Sense & purpose they do not believe in growth, but rather attempting to destroy all that they have not create.

I say they are a different species and should not be called humans, but rather consider as a virus or a vermin and be treated as such. It's types like them that promote the folly of the world and push human in a negative path.Note that many so called Theist that is shouting God. God from the rooftops are no different.

OBSERVE THEIR ACTION

Like the religion wars, warmongers, & the sort ...

Atheists believe a lot of different things.

Some of the beliefs are very sensible, some are quite silly.

The only thing that being atheist means is that they lack a belief in gods.

Atheists just don't believe in this "God". And then we just believe what we want.

Don't generalize because you've met one or two atheists, cause we're all unique. That's why we're special. =3

And... if you don't know what atheists "believe" in, how can you say you're not an atheist?

I think it is depend on athiest ... you must ask every single one of them.

They don't believe in anything unless it's tangible. Oh, yes, they believe the sun will rise because it always has, but they don't realize it's God who makes this happen, or they refuse to acknowledge it.
