n Genesis chapter 1, verses 29-30... we are told the following (emphasis added).

Then God said, “I give you EVERY SEED-BEARING PLANT on the face of the whole earth and EVERY TREE THAT HAS FRUIT WITH SEED IN IT. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give EVERY GREEN PLANT FOR FOOD.” And it was so.

----

What do think would be meant by "EVERY SEED-BEARING PLANT" -- what would be the alternative, if there be one?

What do think would be meant by "EVERY TREE THAT HAS FRUIT WITH SEED IN IT" -- what would be the alternative, if there be one?

seed bearing plant would clearly exclude mushrooms, for example. I believe the second is 'fruit of the tree', and I don't know of any fruit that doesn't have seed in it,,, but if there is no such thing, the permission only means that all fruit of trees are good to eat. About the third, At the moment, there are many green plants that are poison, but I believe the text means that it wasn't so in the beginning, but that that is the result of the fall.

Seeds are not in potatoes, they are in the flowers of the potatoes (the relative of potatoes we call tomatoes are the result of the flowers, which typically have many seeds). So are the seeds of that entire family. That I say in response to the comment about potatoes.

Concerning where Adam was when he heard the things God said there, it wasn't like what we have today, and Adam wasn't like how we are today. So we know about two trees, neither is known to exist on Earth, whether literal or analogous. If so, then there is no telling as to what else was in that specific garden.

That being said, looking for these plants on earth might be a refreshing study, but it might be akin to doing research on ourselves to see if the males in the current population are missing a rib.

Um, mushrooms? As for the trees, I'm not thinking of a tree that doesn't have some sort of seed but that may be the result of my limited knowledge. There are fern trees -- maybe that's what's being referred to. Or, more likely imo, this is just a description of the plants given along with the permission.

There are plants that aren't green, and they don't tend to be edible (except for some fungi).

I get what you're saying,..You basically mean that if evolution was to create just one of every plant species, and fruit/veg. species, that the living creatures that came into existence (1 of each) were in the need to feed, would have only had one of each. Which makes it then seem as if there would not have been enough or any food to go around for everything to continue to exist??

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I haven't really studied evolution, so I'm ignorant to it. And most religious people are too..

Some plants don't produce seeds.

Some plants produce seeds, but no obviously edible fruit.

Some plants produce both seeds and edible fruit.

Perhaps by spefically mentioning each type of plant, God was pre-empting any question that Adam might have about which plants to eat. Adam might have automatically discounted plants without fruit as being inedible. So by God specifically mentioning each type, he is making it known that all types of plants can serve as food -- despite their apparent differences re fruit-bearing or not fruit-bearing.

what was meant by that was that originally both man and animals were all to eat grain and fruit and vegetables. the eating of meat as in "flesh" was not instituted until after adam and eve sinned in the garden of eden.

seed bearing plants and fruit which has the see in it meant that we were originally intended to eat only that which could easily reproduce itself, thus ensuring an never ending food supply for mankind.

the animals being given the green plants for food meant that they were not supposed to eat one another but that they would eat the grasses of the fields.

there were no alternatives to this until man sinned in the garden and God killed an animal and skinned it and gave adam and eve clothing and blood was shed and therefore the shedding of blood became a way of life from then on.

The alternative would be an evolutionary model in which inert molecules would gradually get together randomly ,then get a little bored so decided on intelligent design through "natural selection" to put it to the test of time. That is millions of years of selecting what seems the better option. The inference is plainly that inanimate atomic structures have a control mechanism to contrive dna to make irreducible complexity.

As no scientific mind has yet replicated or explained such precision engineering realistically .nor shown a bit of evidence of it then it follows logically that something is rather dishonest or mistaken in such a concept.

You may derive from that that the food should be fruits and veg only. but you read also "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you even as the green herb have I given you all things" Gen.9:3

Speaking of seeds and sprouts. My baby just dragged itself out of bed and came in sat down and looked like she wanted something. I continued reading the responses and after reading the first answer I asked her "If God had to keep either Adam or Eve which one would he choose?" The male or the female. "Eve"

I laughed "Most people would agree."

"Then God would have the eternal virgin or whatever."

She went back to her room.

I don't think God is saying all of that because there is an alternative, I think he is just letting us know that he is responsible for all these things for us to enjoy. God is great.

God wanted them to eat their fruits and veggies.

Later on, after the flood, he told people they could eat meat.

Friend, what have you gained by putting God and His Word on trial due to your lack of faith and belief? NOTHING... rather, you should focus on what you are losing by doing so - EVERYTHING!

Here's the fun part: a huge number of seed-bearing plants and trees with fruit with seed in them are *poisonous" to humans. Eat them, and you'll die. Yet god fave them ALL to us? Guess "god" doesn't know much about botany or humans or poisons, huh.

Don't take the bible teachings literally as they are read. They must be interpreted in a good way so that you can understand the true meaning.
