If we think of ourselves as Christians, it seems to me that we should be following the teachings of Jesus.

He really only left us one commandment.

Love your neighbor.

The other ten are for the people who can't figure this one out.

Christians seem to think that there are only 10 commandments or that the 10 commandments are the most important part of the law. This is not the case, there are over 600 commandments and the make up the complete law - none is more important than the rest.

Second, you have a great start on being a Christian as you are apparently willing to disregard the "laws" that you don't like (Yahoo answers is 13 and over), in order to do what you want. Other examples of this are Christians trying to force public prayers even though Jesus clearly said not to do this and completely ignoring that divorce is the same as adultery, which Jesus also quite clearly said.

1. Do not worship any god or idle such as a statue of gold, silver, wood, etc. that is not God. (God has no image of himself other than statues depicting the time of his death.)

2.Pretty much the same thing as 1. but even more based on the idles such as money and power.

3.Don't say things like "Oh my God!" loosely and sarcasticly.

4.Sunday is the Sabaath Day. It is the day of rest based on when God created the Earth and rested on the Seventh day, Sunday. Basicly do not work on Sunday. Since you're eleven that means try not to do school work and such on Sunday do it all on Saturday. It also is said to start on Saturday night.

5.Honor your Father and Mother, meaning that they are not lesser than you. You are submitted to them until you are an adult hence about 18 years old.

6.Uhh don't murder, murder is considered to be the killing of another human being for personal reasons. So don't do that, but if you join the army one day (most unlikely) it is ok to kill.

7.Do not cheat on your boyfriend when you have one. Also do not have sex before marriage because God is your love before you are married so having sex is kind of like cheating on God.

8.Uh don't steal, quite straight forword just don't steal.

9.Do not lie about your friend or neighbor or a stranger or anyone if it is in court or with your parents or anyone else in charge.

10.Do not want what you don't have solely because you don't have it. If it is something that you do not need or want enough to use more than once a month it's not worth it.

Doing these things is considered sin. If you do commit any of these sins you can ask God for forgiveness. The only sin that cannot be forgiven is the sin of Blasphemy against God. Pretty much saying that what the devil does is God's doing.

I also suggest looking into what you should and should not eat. Anything with a split foot and that chews cud (grass, hay, leaves, etc.) can be eaten. Rabbit meat, no. It chews cud but does not have a split foot. No pork. It has a split hoof but does not chew cud.

First things first:

The 9th Commandment does NOT say "Do not lie", it says "Do not bear as false witness". There IS a difference. The latter effectively says "Do not lie in court". This implies that it is wrong to lie, but it recognises that there are times when lying, whilst not in court, can be necessary.

The first 5 are generally laws concerning man and G-d.

The second 5 are laws concerning man and man.

Good for you! Learning is the best thing to do.

The first 3 Commandments are about loving the Lord. The last 7 is about loving other people.

The first 3 tell us that there is only one God and we are to love Him and honor Him and He made the Sabbath for us to worship Him, at least one day a week from our busy lives.

The other 7 tell us what not to do to our neighbors in order to have good relationships with them. Like not to steal, don't lie, don't commit adultery, etc.

okay, ill just tell you all of them in order and then explain what they mean pretty much:

1) you shall not have any other gods before me - do not have and fake gods, only worship Jesus Christ.

2) you shall not make for yourself a carved image - dont make any idols for yourself to worship in place of God.

3) you shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain - do not say oh my Go_, JC, and other names that are said for any meaning besides actually talking ot Him.

4) remeber the sabbath day, to keep it holy - dont work on sundays, go to church and worship God.

5) honor your father and mother - obey what they say and just respect/honor them.

6) you shall not murder - do not kill anyone or anything.

7) you shall not commit adultary - i dont exactly know what adultary is, but im pretty sure, about 90% sure that its when you go and do it with someone. so dont cheat on your spouse.

8) you shall not steal - dont take anything that is not yours, unless you paay for it.

9) you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor - ok, idk what this exactly means, i think it means dont be a fake person to try and believe in God but you really dont or something.?.?sorry.

10) you shall not covet your neighbors house - im pretty sure this one means dont get jealous or whatever of what you dont have and some one else does.

sorry if this didnt help, thats a great hting youre doing and you are totally going to love it! good luck and God bless.

Simply put:

Have no God but God. Do not worship Mohammed, Buddha, Money, clothes. Nothing is as important as God.

Do not make any images or figures and worship them (like statues and stuff)

Do not take God's name in vain, meaning don't ever say "Goddam*it", "Jesus Christ", "Oh my God", etc unless you are actually asking God to damn something, talking to Jesus, or are speaking to God.

Do not lie

Do not steal

Do not murder

Do not cheat on your spouse

Do not be jealous of anyone else and their possessions, boyfriends, etc

Respect your parents

Keep the Sabbath

I suggest getting a Bible written in today's language. There are many out there. They are easy to read. You can also get a Teen Bible:

The first 5 are about loving GOD and the last five are about loving your neighbors.

Together the ten commandments hold are faith in the LORD to be self evident and apparent to all that know us.

The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17, New King James Version)

1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. (Worship only the true God)

2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments. (Do not worship any graven image)

3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. (Do not use God's name in vain)

4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. (Honor the Sabbath day)

5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. (Respect your mother and father)

6 “You shall not murder. (Self-explanatory)

7 “You shall not commit adultery. (Do not cheat on your spouse)

8 “You shall not steal. (Self-explanatory)

9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (Do not lie in a way that could hurt others)

10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.” (Do not be envious or jealous of others)

Before you start... the bible has TWO different sets of ten commandments; one in Exodus 20, the other in Exodus 34.

They are really very clear. Get an NIV bible, or a young person's bible. God can show you exactly what He wants you to know, if you ask Him.

It can be summarized in two

1. Love your God (if you Love your God, you wouldnt use his name in vain etc.)

2. Love your neighbor (if you Love your neighbor don't steal his wife, stuff, kill him etc.)
