It is not reading the Bible that saves you, but faith in Jesus Christ that saves you.

God sent His Son down from heaven, to become a man, to live like a man, to teach, to heal, to cast out demons and perform miracles, even raising the dead - but the main reason He came was to die on a cross, for your sins, and for mine.

When Jesus died on the cross, He took the punishment you deserve upon Himself, so you could be freely forgiven and receive the free gift of eternal life through faith in Him.

If you believe, pray this simple prayer now, as humbly and sincerely as you know how:

"Dear Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe You came down from heaven, sent by the Father, to save sinners. I confess to You that I am a sinner, and I deserve Your punishment. But I believe You love me and don't wish to punish, but to forgive. Please forgive me all of my sins right now. I believe that You, Jesus, died for me, and I believe You were raised from the dead. Please cleanse me from all my guilt and give me Your Holy Spirit, so I will have the strength to live for You from now on. Thank You for hearing my prayer. Thank You for forgiving my sins, and for giving me the gift of eternal life. Amen!"

Now believe God heard you, because Jesus came for this very purpose - to forgive sinners.

Start reading the Bible. Start with the New Testament. Start with the Gospel of John. Then read the other Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke. Then read the Book of Acts, and then read through right to the end.

Peace to you, in Jesus Name!

Just begin - pray to God, and He will begin to teach you.

Make a special effort to read the Bible regularly. Even though you do not fully understand everything, your getting an overall view of the Scriptures will be of great value. For example, if you read only four or five pages a day, you can complete the Bible in about a year.

When can you do your Bible reading? If you set aside even 10 or 15 minutes a day for it, you will be greatly benefited. If not, at least schedule regular times for it each week, and then hold to that schedule. If you are married, you and your mate can enjoy reading the Bible aloud to each other. If there are children old enough to read, they may take turns reading aloud. Bible reading should be a lifelong habit, like eating food. As you know, if a person’s eating habits are poor, his health will suffer. So, too, our spiritual life, and hence our eternal life, depends on our being regularly nourished on “every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.”—Matthew 4:4.

Our Objective

What should be our objective in reading the Bible? Our goal should not be simply to cover a certain number of pages. Our motive should be to know God better so that we can increase our love for him and worship him acceptably. (John 5:39-42) Our attitude should be like that of the Bible writer who said: “Make me know your own ways, O Jehovah; teach me your own paths.”—Psalm 25:4.

1) i heard that if you do not read the bible you will not go to heaven? is this true?

Trick question, heaven does not exist.

2) does listening to an audio talk or a preacher talk while following along in the bible count?

See part one

3) should i read the bible thoroughly or just randomly quickly

Completely your choice, do you honestly think that if an all powerful super being exists he actually cares if you read through his book erratically or methodically?

You get eternal life by repenting your sins, asking God to forgive you and then placing your trust that Jesus sacrifice on the cross has paid the penalty for your sins.

Whether you get that information from reading the Bible or from hearing the true Gospel preached is not relevant. The thief on the cross for example did not have time to read the Bible, go to church, be baptized etc and yet in his last moments on earth he realized he was a sinner , he was truly sorry, he realized Jesus was Lord, cried out to him and was forgiven his sins and promised a place in heaven.

However a knowledge of the Bible would be helpful in sorting out good doctrine from false doctrine and there are a lot of counterfeit gospels being preached these days which of course will not save anybody.

You do not need to read the entire Bible to go to Heaven because thoroughly reading the Bible word for word does not mean you are saved. People read the Bible, in fact study the Bible, who do not believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, let alone that He existed. Salvation is by faith alone, and if that faith is genuine, there will be works. I would go ahead and listen to an audio talk as well :) I would read the Bible thoroughly. I would recommend a 365 Bible, where it divides it up so you will have it finished in one year.

1) its because you failed to trust in the lord Jesus. you failed to trust his words that you tend to forget to read them.

2) Going to heaven is not a mantra that you will read and recite repetitively. One of the two thieves who died with Jesus wasn't been able to be baptized by John, not a single good work yet he was promised of heaven by christ the moment he dies. The bible is our guide to heaven but not a ticket to heaven. Salvation is not by good works my friend (Ephesians 2:8-9), its God's grace unto us through faith that we were saved, its God's gift. We didn't earn it. If not for Christ we are all bound to be doomed in hell because of our deliberate sinning.

3) I'm not so clear with what you ask here but if your asking about reading the bible while listening to an audio preaching well then you should. you should check whether the preacher was really teaching as what the apostle preachers taught. Acts 17:11 tells us that even Paul, bibles greatest preacher, was checked by the Berean Christians if what Paul was saying was true.

4) "should i read the bible thoroughly or just randomly quickly"

as food is for the body so as God's word is for the soul. Matthew 4:4 says, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'

you don't eat randomly do you? otherwise it makes you weak, its one reason why for 15 years you only ready read 6 pages of the bible. feed your soul everyday and be filled from it.

DON'T READ THE BIBLE AS THOUGH ITS A REQUIREMENT THAT YOU SHOULD FINISH A PAGE AT A CERTAIN TIME. Listen to what it says. Pray for God's spirit to grant you wisdom that He may reveal His words to you. Otherwise you might become a false prophet or an atheist for misunderstanding or misinterpretation of it.

take heart my friend. God knows your concern more as He feed each sparrow who are looking for food everyday.

if you have more questions about faith and the bible, feel free to ask. you can ask me personally in my email

im not saying im an expert of his word, for no one is, but its just my joy to share my faith to people like you.

It is wonderful to read the Bible, but not essential to get to Heaven. Reading the bible is not an easy exercise, and takes commitment. It is easy to give up.

Start by reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Don't try to read too much, or you may burn out. Take it easy.

Jesus started a Church, when He was on earth, and the first Christians had no New Testament. They only had the Scriptures of the Old Testament. The New Testament was collated and ratified by the Church (Catholic) in the 4th century.

Most people couldn't read when the Good News of Jesus was being proclaimed. Millions of people, down the centuries, haven't been able to read either. They heard the Scriptures being read to them, they were taught sermons and stories from the Scriptures, and they had beautiful mosaics, murals, pictures, statues, stained-glass windows, and church architecture to show them about God and His love, and the plan of Salvation.

Getting to Heaven is about loving God and dying in His friendship. Jesus recommended Baptism, not Bible reading. Jesus started a Church. He didn't write a book/s.

When you do read the Bible, try to read prayerfully. Try to focus on what God's message is. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to learn how to love God more. Reading the Bible is about getting to know Jesus, our loving Saviour, and about His plan for you. He wants you in Heaven, and He wants to help you to get there.

Also, go to church. Get to know other Christians, and learn how to live a Godly life. The fulness of Christianity is found in the Catholic Church, because that is the one founded by Jesus Himself, but you need to be comfortable, wherever you start. Even if you go to another Christian denomination first, don't forgot the Catholics. We love God, too.

God bless.

The bible is God's covenant between Him and Jesus. It is full of promises that pertain to all of life backed by the Spirit of God. WHY would you not read and attend to it fully.Proverbs 4:20 -22 says to attend to the covenmant and it will give you life and healing for all your flesh. A fool will let that covenant stay unread and un -acted on. Jesus thought the written word was so important that when he was attacked on the mount of temptation, he said " it is written" three times and drove the devil off with it.And faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. You can read this book hap-hazardly, but then you will get hap-hazard results.Joshua 1:8 says to meditate( think on consistently) in the word day and nite, then you will see how to do what is written therein, then you will have good success. There is no downside to reading and acting on this covenant of life.

One should study the Bible instead of reading it. The books of the Bible were not written in the order they are positioned in the Bible. Using the concordance to research a single subject from conception to finalization will give a truer understanding of the teaching of the Bible. For instance, God told Isiah to do something. And since it was common in those days for God to tell the ancients to do different things with the ancients in turn asking God for a sign (this was to confirm that the request actually from God). Well, Isiah did not ask for a sign. So God says to Isiah, 'are you not going to ask for a sign?' When Isiah said no then God told Isiah that He was going to give him a sign anyway. Then God told Isiah about the messiah coming. Now, it is a known fact that the book of Isiah was written 752 B.C. So, it took 752 years for the fulfillment of this 'sign' and Isiah did not live long enough to witness it. But you have to remember that God does not work on our schedule nor calender.

"God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16

To get to heaven you must believe in Jesus Christ as your saviour and your friend. The best way to do this is to read the bible. It really is an amazing book! I recommend the new testement, the letters of St. Paul, Phillippians etc. You should take your time reading it. It's not about how much you read, but what you get out of it. It is also good to listen to preachers etc.. They can help you to understand the bible better.

Good luck and God Bless!!

If you want to read the Bible, do it. No, you are not going to be denied a place in Heaven if you don't read the Bible.

It is a good book. Maybe you should get together with other people to read and reflect.

Your local church should have a class or group.

good luck.

The Bible is not needed to go to heaven. You can please yourself how you read the Bible. If you want to go to heaven you should become a member of the Church established by Christ on the foundation of the Apostles that possesses the fullness of the means of salvation.

All those things won't get you to heaven....The OT Jews knew every word of scripture, were good on the outside, protested against sinners... yet they completely missed the message of the bible ...Jesus as Messiah....The thief on the cross didn't know a word of scripture, wasn't baptized, didn't tithe, didn't go to church, didn't protest against homosexuals and abortions...yet he got to heaven, cos he knew Jesus

It's better you read the bible with the intention of developin your relationship with Jesus, rather than reading it for the sake of religion...God Bless

Come on, kid; don't fall for that old trick! Of course they're going to try to trick you into reading their stupid bible by telling you you'll burn in hell if you don't. If you're going to read it, read it with an open mind. Free yourself of any preconceived beliefs about gods, demons and afterlife scenarios. If the bible really is the word of a god, it should be able to convince you without assistance.

the only way to learn anything from the Bible is to be in the Bible daily through prayer asking for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the great and holy name Jesus Christ...Amen. there is no other way.

Dear friend Travis K,

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (Holy Bible John 5:39)

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (Holy Bible Romans 15:4)

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (Holy Bible John 20:31)

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Holy Bible Romans 10:17)

God bless you in Christ Jesus mighty name.

reading the Bible doesn't get you to heaven, no work you can perform gets you to heaven, our greatest good is a filthy thing to God. the only way you can get to heaven and in the presence of the holy one is to be saved by grace through faith (Eph 2/8). and you wouldn't know that unless you were in God's word.
