you know, despite the controversy of gay marriage, i think here it was a witch hunt, and while it is fairly obvious that the contest was rigged,

(there is NO way that a woman from california is beating out a woman from new york),

people are crapping on her for having the backbone to state her beliefs in the face of a gay judge costing her the contest in the face of an obvious bias.

quite frankly- she was asked what she believes, not what the law is or should be-

she even acknowledged about choice, part of choice is being able to disagree even if it is unpopular.

time and again i've said its wrong to not allow gay marriage, but its also wrong to disallow someone's beliefs even if those beliefs are foolish-

isn't this is an example of what a christian should be, separating her beliefs, from what is right? separating them from politics- they asked her the question and then tell her to keep her "politics" out of the contest?

if they didnt' want her opinion, they shouldnt' have asked her.

she might be a delusional religious whackjob, but so long as she is not pushing legislation (which she is not), doesn't she have the right to her opinion?

she also takes carefull note (CHRISTIANS PAY ATTENTION HERE- THIS IS WHY I GIVE HER RESPECT AND NOT Y/A CHRISTIANS),

that she QUALIFIES her statements as "for me" and "my BELIEFS".

and how screwed up is a "beauty" contest that focuses on more than her breasts and butt.

no one cares what these women have to say and no one wants to see how they can play violin. beauty contests are about how good they look. maybe when america and the world regained sight of that then these things would actually have some legitimacy again.

Ok, but I don't understand why beauty contests should be about anything other than... beauty. If i want to see someone play violin I'll go to a music contest. Seriously, I really hate it when girls are invited in a studio to play music and the cameras keep focusing on their breasts and butt. Beauty contests are to jodge beauty, music contests are to judge music, and so on.

Would you say the same thing if the Judge was black and asked her what she thinks about racial equality and she answered that blacks do not deserve the same right as whites? The current phobia of homosexuality is equivalent to the racial phobia back in the days. Why did we separate the colored people from the white people back then? Why do we separate the Gays from the Straights right now?

To me, there should be separation fo religion and government. The religious can proclaim all they want about the marriage between a man and a woman. Churches can refuse letting gays have ceremonies in their Establishments. The government, on the other hand, should not and cannot prevent a couple from enjoying the legal benefits of being a couple.

I totally respect this woman for being brave enough to give more than the vanilla answer...although I totally disagree. But you have to understand that the contest is objective and the judges are there to give their personal opinions for that particular contestant. I do not agree that Perez should have blogged so viciously about her...that was totally wrong... but he (the judge) was asked for his opinion too and unfortunately he didn't like Miss Cali.

I have nothing against what she said, she can be a homphobic as she wants, but gees she could have atleast tried to sound a little smarter or "politically correct" she said she "thinks" she "believes" not that in her personal experience. Her choice of words also made it seem that she looked down upon homosexuals, therefore earning her the title "homophobic". And, have you noticed that the judges don't vote unanimously? They obviously weren't all gay. just Perez. Besides she should have been a lot nicer to the gay stylists that make her look presentable, talk about backstabbing.

She deserves her opinion. I am a confused christian on this issue. I know alot of my christian cohorts claim that since the bible says its wrong its sin to be gay but in todays society I lean towards thinking that God doesnt care if you are gay or straight as long as you are a good person. Hmmmm I wish I knew but I dont.

I can admire her willingness to be blunt and still think she should have to face the consequences of being so, and that is how I feel. Her right to an opinion does not trump the rights of others to have a negative opinion of her and her opinion, and treat her accordingly, within the bounds of the law.

Let's get things straight, shall we?

Nobody is "crapping" on her because she said what she believed.

People are "crapping" on her because she's an ignorant bigot.

See the difference?

She had every right to state her bigoted "beliefs." And the pageant had every right to "judge" her any way they saw fit. Both exercised their rights.

Frankly, "beauty pageants" belong in the dustbin of history along with women not being allowed to work or vote -- they're barely-concealed conservative porn shows; "hey, yeah, let's keep our women pretty and dumb, the only place they belong is in the kitchen, the bedroom, or parading around on a stage in a bikini!" The whole thing is stupid.

Peace.

Clearly the contest was biased, look at who runs it? NBC is run by outwardly gay people. The judge that gave her a 0 was gay, he should not have even asked such a loaded question at a beauty pagaent.

Who cares about that stuff anyway, those contests are run by gay people, how can a gay person choose who the most beautiful woman is? That contest is worthless until they get some heterosexual judges.

Who is the most beautiful woman, only straight guys can judge that.

everyon has the right ot be gay if they want to but having a gay beauty pagaent judge is like having a farmer for an airline pilot. I wouldnt get on that plane.

Agreed, pageantry is so tired and degrading. Trying to include bits of intelligence and talent does nothing to give it any kind of dignity. The premise itself is appalling.

To be fair, I really don't respect her mainly because she's a beauty pageant contestant. That's all I really need to know about her to write her off as stupid.

She has a right to her opinion, just as I have a right to my opinion. She shouldn't expect to be treated preferentially because of her beliefs.

She should understand basic human rights.

She could have said, "While I personally don't agree with gay marraige, I believe all citizens should have equal access to government services."

A 'beauty' contest is not just about aesthetics, it about how well the woman presents and handles herself in public.

Her response wasn't hate-filled. I honor the honest.

What the heck are incredibly controversial questions like that doing at a beauty pageant?

Gays can be put to death in many Islamic countries. But instead of trying to stop that, we instead get angry at a finalist in a beauty pageant for believing that they shouldn't be allowed marriages.

I think the thing that has got everybody riled up was the applause by the crowd after the statement. Not the fact that a bimbo doesn't want gay people to have rights.

The fact that a pageant queen doesn't understand basic human rights is to be expected, but when an audience full of people applaud her stupidity, its something to worry about.

She sounded like a German Fraulein in 1932 praising the Aryan race to me. I expect an indoctrinated Fraulein to be bigoted, but when a crowd roars in approval, it might be time to pack our things for a safer country.

A belief that denies equal rights deserves no respect. That's like asking to respect someone who believes slavery is correct.

It's a non-issue, I agree. Freedom of speech trumps any possible hurt feelings.

she was asked for her opinion and she gave it. probably not the easiest thing to say right then, but she did and that should have had nothing to do with the judging.

Pardon, but there are ways and ways to express your feelings regarding a subject.

She lost because she's..well..dumb.

"We live in a land...I think...that I believe....and you know what.."

Are you serious?

My only thing with her is that she probably should have given the SOURCE of her bigotry, which in this case has to be religion. She never mentioned religion at all.

Pretty funny, she is being condemned by those who demand tolerance of others.

While she does not speak for me, I too admire her for her integrity.
