Question:
What came first Adam and Eve or dinosaurs, and where did Adam and Eves grandchildren come from?
2008-11-03 08:03:45 UTC
I've always wondered a couple of silly things...I believe in God and the Holy Bible, and I also believe in science and discoveries. So I'm sure dinosaurs were roaming the earth years ago. My question is, did they come before or after Adam and Eve? How did that work. Did got first create Dinosaurs, then say "forget this", and started over with Adam and Eve?

Also, if Adam and Eve were the first man and woman. Where did the other people come from? I suppose Adam and Eve had children, but how did their children have children? Did they engage in incest? The only way to continue to procreate was for Adam & Eve's children to have sexual relations with each other! Ew!

Help me out here.

All the animals came first, whether flying, crawling, swimming, etc. God created Adam and Eve after He finished everything else.

Dinosaurs were not the big monsters walt disney makes them out to be. A baby dinosaur starts off no bigger than a lizard or alligator. Uh - come to think of it, they ARE lizards and alligators and the like.

You see, unlike people or dogs or horses, alligators and lizards and turtles and some other animals never stop growing. The older they get, the bigger they get. When life lasted 700 to 900 years at a time, that's plenty of time for a lizard to turn into a dinosaur. But after awhile, when life spans were much shorter, they didn't live long enough to get that big, so while people THINK they died out and became extinct, they just simply didn't live long enough to get big enough to be called dinosaurs.

Eve was called the mother of all people. She had sons and daughters, but because the genetic pool was still pure, there was no problem with people marrying their own sibling.

However, contrary to popular belief, we did NOT descend from Cain, but from another son, Seth. By that time, the population had grown sufficiently so that he could marry a cousin, or possibly even a second cousin.

It seems gross to us, and we know the potential of a down's syndrome baby, but when you think about it, we ARE the down's syndrome babies. (I say this not to gross you out, but just think for a minute - what was Adam and Eve like? I think that Eve would make the most beautiful woman on earth today look ugly in comparison. And Adam would make Mr. Universe, or Schwartzenegger look like a wimp in comparison, and while we only use 10% of our brain, they used it all, making even Einstein look like a moron in comparison! - just something to think about! WOW!)

Good questions, I trust my answers are sufficient for you.

One additional side thought:

For those who say the Bible doesn't mention dinosaurs, it also doesn't mention kangaroos or the dodo bird. What does THAT prove? Nothing at all! It's silly (and illogical) to say that because the Bible doesn't mention some animal, therefore that animal never existed!

An archeologist can point at a fossil which is millions of years old and then say this is older than the bible claims, but in order to get a definite answer they would also need to have the bones of Adam and Eve and then carbon date this alongside the bones of a dinosaur. Since the bones of Adam and Eve do not exist, the scientific community is left with saying simply that there is proof that the dinosaurs exist but the only proof of Adam and Eve is the story of Genesis in the bible. No other physical bodily proof can back this claim up.

If you read the Bible, you would discover that it has over 30 references to dinosaurs within it. You will not find the word "dinosaur" in the Bible because it was first coined in the 1840's. As the Bible is much older then that, and the English versions date from the 1600s, they use the older word "dragon" to identify what we call dinosaurs today. (As did science until the 1840s). Two of the most amazing are in the book of Job, where God in chapters 40 and 41 speaks of two beast called the Behemoth and the Leviathan. The first matches what you would think of as a "bird hipped" dinosaur (such as a T-Rex or Raptor), while the another is a "lizard hipped" dinosaurs (the four legged kind). These are the two major categories used by science today to classify dinosaurs. Somehow the author of Job knew that centuries before modern science discovered it. The author also credit to God a very accurate and detailed description of the creatures, including the bird-hipped dinosaurs powerful tail and their massive size. For them to have known all that, either they had seen living dinosaurs, were better scientist then anyone until the 19th century, or they were told of this by God (like the poem claims). Feel free to pick the explanation that makes the most sense to you. The Bible also speaks of the dinosaurs being destroyed at a time "in the past" by a great disaster that God brought onto the earth. Again the idea that the extinction of dinosaurs is due to a disaster is a modern idea. Whether that disaster was the Great Flood, or an event that happened prior to the creation of the plant, animals and humans of Genesis 1 is a debated issue by Bible scholars. There are several statements in Genesis (such as God's command to the animals and humans to REplenish the earth) that imply an earlier creation. The Bible also speaks of "dragon" remains being found in desolate and wilderness places. It uses them as a metaphor several times for something that was completely destroyed by God. Again, the knowledge that the fossils and bones were part of dinosaurs is an idea that science did not discover until the 1800s. Now science may have added a new piece to the puzzle to support Genesis 1. The current theory is that whatever dinosaurs survived the disaster (flood, meteor, God's wrath, or whatever) have become today's bird. This would place them before land animals and humans on the developmental tree. Note that Genesis 1 states that first "fish" and then birds where created. Then it becomes a new day (or era) and the mammals and humans appear. Just what science is now suggesting happened. Birds are the remains of an earlier era. Something it appears the author of Genesis knew, and science is just now starting to guess. The only form that the author of Genesis (or Adam and Eve) would have seen dinosaurs in would be in the form of ... birds!! So if they wanted to write about dinosaurs being created before mammals and humans, it is only logical to say the birds were created first. So the Bible appears to explain dinosaurs (now represented by their only living members as birds) as being created in an era before humans. They were once mighty and powerful creature divided into two major classes (bird hip and lizard hip). They were destroyed by a disaster that God brought on the earth. And are now only found in the form of fossils and bones. That explanation appears to match well with what science tells us about dinosaurs. So I find no reason to reject belief in a first Man and Woman because dinosaurs existed since the Bible talks so much about their existence.

Adam and Eve never lived , so the dinosaurs came first.

The dinosaurs had gone extinct some 64 to 65 million years before homo-sapiens evolved. The common ancestor to all mammals including mankind were the small burrowing mammals which survived the asteroid collision (gulf of mexico) some 65 million years ago. With the dinosaurs going extinct--and with few remaining predators--these small mammals began to fill the biological niches vacated by the extinction of the dinosaurs. After 64 some million years of evolution a group of prehominids followed the path of intelligence for survival advantage and became the dominant species culminated at this point in evolution by man.

When Were Dinosaurs On Earth

Adam and Eve were created at a separate time as the other people God created. They were not the first two people created. he created Adam and placed him in the garden separate from the rest of the population. Genesis chapter 1 vs 26 God said let us make man in our image according to our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air,, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. so God created man in his own image in the image of God he created him; male and female. so you see this was the sixth day he rested on the seventh day. So you see Adam and Eve were created after this time and placed in the garden east of Eden. They were a separate creation. You see God told the others to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth He did not say this to Adam. so anyway after god booted them from the garden they joined the rest of the population. You see when Cain killed Abel he was sent away and went to live in the land of Nod. so there were other lands already established. a lot of people think the bible just repeated the story of the creation but no Adam was created after the fact. So incest was not involved as they had people on the earth to procreate with. Also in addition as to the word replenish does this not mean that the earth was once plentiful? So God told mankind to replenish it. interesting is it not?

The dinosaurs lived a few million years before Adam and Eve were invented.

According to the bible, Cain found a wife in Nod. Obviously, Adam and Eve (if they even existed) were NEVER the only people on earth.

Obviously, you don't believe in the Bible, or you even have never read the Bible.

It is clearly written in the Bible that Adam and Eve had their children. This is not my assumption, it is written in the Bible.

And to answer your question, dinosaurs came before Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve never existed, because the Bible is not true. Fake story.

adam and eve is a man-made story, believe in a god if you want. but the dinosaurs where long dead and gone before the first idea of any god along with adam and eve was even though up.

"Yes God created all animals. But He knew that they {dinosaurs} would hurt people, and allowed them to die during the flood."

that was a rather amusing answer I found.

"The only way to continue to procreate was for Adam & Eve's children to have sexual relations with each other! Ew! "

yeah but there werent bother and sister.

Its not like they came from the same mother.

Adam and Eve came last and here's the explanation, straight from Genesis, with explanatory notes: (apologies for the length)

Genesis 1:26 - The [Elohim] said, "Let us make humanity in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild beasts and all the reptiles that crawl upon the earth."

Elohim is a plural word, including male and female, and should properly be translated "Gods" or "Pantheon."

27 The Gods created humanity in the image of themselves, In the image of the Gods they created them, Male and Female they created them.

28 The Gods blessed them, saying to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and conquer it. Be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven and all living animals on the earth."

Now clearly, here we are talking about the original creation of the human species: male and female. All the animals, plants, etc. have all been created in previous verses. This is before the Garden of Eden, and Yahweh is not mentioned as the creator of these people. The next chapter talks about how Yahweh, an individual member of the Pantheon, goes about assembling his own special little botanical and zoological Garden in Eden, and making his own little man to inhabit it:

Gen 2:7 - Yahweh God fashioned a man of dust from the soil. Then he breathed into his nostrils a breath of life, and thus the man became a living being.

8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden which is in the east, and there he put the man he had fashioned.

9 Yahweh God caused to spring up from the soil every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, with the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden.

15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.

Now this next is crucial: note Yahweh's precise words:

16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this admonition, "You may eat indeed of all the trees in the garden.

17 Nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die."

Fateful words, those. We will refer back to this admonition later.

Then Yahweh decides to make a woman to go with the man. Now, don't forget that the Pantheon had earlier created a whole population of people, "male and female," who are presumably doing just fine somewhere "outside the gates of Eden." But this setup in Eden is Yahweh's own little experiment, and will unfold to its own separate destiny.

21 So Yahweh God made the man fall into a deep sleep. And while he slept, he took one of his ribs and enclosed it in flesh.

22 Yahweh God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.

Right. Man gives birth to woman. Sure he does. But that's the way the story is told here.

25 Now both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame in front of each other.

Well, of course not! Why should they? But take careful note of those words, as they also will prove to be significant . . .

Now this next part is where it starts to get interesting. Enter the Serpent:

Gen. 3:1 - The serpent was the most subtle of all the wild beasts that Yahweh God had made. It asked the woman, "Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?"

2 The woman answered the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden.

3 "But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, 'You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death'"

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "No! You will not die!

5 "God knows in fact that on the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil."

What a remarkable statement! "Your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil." The Serpent directly contradicts Yahweh.

Obviously, one of them has to be lying. Which one, do you suppose? And, if the serpent speaks true, wouldn't you wish to eat of the magic fruit? Wouldn't it be a good thing, to become "like gods, knowing good and evil"? Or is it preferable to remain in ignorance?

6 The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was desirable for the knowledge that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She gave some also to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loincloths.

The author makes an interesting assumption here: that if you realize you are naked you will automatically want to cover yourself.

There is a lot more to this, but it's all too long to post on this forum.

After.

In truth the bible does mention dinosuars. The Bible refers to many the common animals we know today. The list includes lions, wolves, bears, sheep, cattle and dogs along with various kinds of birds, rodents, reptiles, and insects. What is interesting is that this extensive list includes three animals that we no longer recognize. These three are (in the original Hebrew language) tanniyn, b@hemowth (yes, it’s spelled correctly—at least as close as we can get in Roman characters), and livyathan. Although we alter the spelling of behemoth and Leviathan slightly, we still use those same words in bibles today. However, tanniyn is always translated into another word when we write it in English. Tanniyn occurs 28 times in the Bible and is normally translated “dragon.” It is also translated “serpent,” “sea monster,” “dinosaur,” “great creature,” and “reptile.” Behemoth and Leviathan are relatively specific creatures, perhaps each was a single kind of animal. Tanniyn is a more general term, and it can be thought of as the original version of the word “dinosaur.” The word “dinosaur” was originally coined in 1841, more than three thousand years after the Bible first referred to “Tanniyn.”

Dinosaur” Names,

Name and date first written in the Bible, Scientific Name (best estimate), and date the name appeared

tanniyn (dragon) before 1400 BC dinosaur 1841 AD

behemoth before 1400 BC brachiosaurus 1903 AD

Leviathan before 1400 BC kronosaurus 1901 AD

How we got these new names is interesting. In 1822, Mary Ann Mantell became the first person to discover and correctly identify a strange bone as part of a large, unknown reptile. Her husband, Dr. Gideon Mantell, later named this creature an “Iguanodon.” From that time forward, these forgotten animals were given names chosen by the people who rediscovered them. Of course, the Bible, written between approximately 1450 BC and 95 AD, does not include any of these names. Reading the Bible carefully, you will realize that no living creature matches the descriptions of behemoth and Leviathan. However, if you grab your kid’s dinosaur book, you will notice several possible matches for each one. Let’s examine those. Behemoth has the following attributes according to Job 40:15-24

It “eats grass like an ox.”

It “moves his tail like a cedar.” (In Hebrew, this literally reads, “he lets hang his tail like a cedar.”)

Its “bones are like beams of bronze,

His ribs like bars of iron.”

“He is the first of the ways of God.”

“He lies under the lotus trees,

In a covert of reeds and marsh.”

Some bibles and study bibles will translate the word “behemoth” as “elephant” or “hippopotamus.” Others will put a note at the edge or bottom of the page, stating that behemoth was probably an elephant or a hippopotamus. Although an elephant or hippopotamus can eat grass (or lie in a covert of reeds and marsh), neither an elephant or a hippopotamus has a “tail like a cedar” (that is, a tail like a large, tapered tree trunk). In your kid’s dinosaur book you will find lots of animals that have “tails like a cedar.” We would expect behemoth to be a large land animal whose bones are like beams of bronze and so forth, so whatever a behemoth is, it is large. A key phrase is “He is the first of the ways of God.” This phrase in the original Hebrew implied that behemoth was the biggest animal created. Although an elephant or a hippopotamus are big, they are less than one-tenth the size of a Brachiosaurus, the largest (complete) dinosaur ever discovered.[1] A Brachiosaurus could therefore easily be described as “the first of the ways of God.”

Comparing all this information to the description in your kid’s dinosaur book, you may come to the conclusion that “behemoth” is not a normal animal, it is a dinosaur—the brachiosaurus. We all agree with that conclusion! Note: Some paleontologists have found fragmentary leg bones, ribs, or vertebrae which they propose belong to “new” sauropods larger than Brachiosaurus. Examples of these include Amphicoelias, Argentinasaurus, Sauroposeidon, Seismosaurus, Supersaurus and Ultrasaurus. There currently is not enough evidence to really determine the size of any of these, and some paleontologists believe that they are merely large examples of known dinosaurs like Brachiosaurus or Diplodocus. In any case, only the “modern scientific name” of behemoth would change. The point would still remain that behemoth refers to a dinosaur, not a “modern animal” like an elephant or hippopotamus.

Leviathan has the following attributes according to Job chapter 41, Psalm 104:25,26 and Isaiah 27:1. This is only a partial listing—just enough to make the point.

“No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.”

“Who can open the doors of his face, with his terrible teeth all around?”

“His rows of scales are his pride, shut up tightly as with a seal; one is so near another that no air can come between them; they are joined one to another, they stick together and cannot be parted.”

“His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lights; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke goes out of his nostrils, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth.”

“Though the sword reaches him, it cannot avail; nor does spear, dart, or javelin. He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones become like stubble to him. Darts are regarded as straw; he laughs at the threat of javelins.”

“On earth there is nothing like him, which is made without fear.”

Leviathan “played” in the “great and wide sea” (a paraphrase of Psalm 104 verses 25 and 26—get the exact sense by reading them yourself).

Leviathan is a “reptile [a] that is in the sea.” (Isaiah 27:1)

Note: The word translated “reptile” here is the Hebrew word tanniyn. This shows that “Leviathan” was also a “tanniyn” (dragon).

Unlike behemoth, who is huge, Leviathan is ferocious and terrifying. Many references (we have not listed them all) refer to the sea, so Leviathan is probably a sea creature. Although some bibles refer to Leviathan as an alligator or crocodile (and both of these are fierce) neither of these is a sea creature. They like the water, but they spend much of their time on land. Further, the question “Who can open the doors of his face. . . .” implies that nobody can open Leviathan’s jaws. Although an alligator's jaws cannot normally be forced open, a punch to their sensitive snout or poke in eye might startle them enough to release their grip.[2] Although this is a good description of an alligator characteristic, it does not fit perfectly with the description of Leviathan, which in the context of the Bible was supposed to describe an essentially impossible event, and im not done yet.

The description of the scales is interesting. Several verses describe these great scales. Compared to Leviathan’s armor, iron is like straw and arrows ca not make it flee. Let’s face it, an arrow can do a lot of damage to a crocodile or alligator. This is not a description of either of them—or any living animal we are aware of. And now for the key ingredient: fire. It is hard to read Job 41:18-21 without realizing the Bible is telling us that Leviathan breathes fire. That alone will eliminate almost every living animal. Yes, there is one animal like that in today’s world. It is called a bombardier beetle. This beetle is a native of Central America, and has a nozzle in its hind end that acts like a little flame thrower. It sprays a high-temperature jet of gas (fueled by hydroquinones and hydrogen peroxide with oxidative enzymes) for protection. Now, if a Central American beetle can do it, so could Leviathan. By the way, crocodiles and alligators are out of the picture on this one, don’t you agree? Before I leave the topic of fire, there are two more notes you may find interesting:

The history of every culture is filled with stories of fire-breathing dragons. If you think about it, in all the past ages wouldn’t someone have made up a story of a fire-breathing lion or something? Nobody did because the dragon stories are based on truth, and only “dragons” breathed fire. It is easy to imagine Leviathan as a member of the dragon (tanniyn) family. (Plus, Isaiah 27:1 strongly implies this connection.) Many fossil dinosaur skulls contain unexplained, empty passages. Scientists have not been able to guess the reason for these passages. Would it make sense that some dinosaurs used these passages as “gas tanks” for the combustible mixture used to “breathe fire?” I believe it does. Comparing all this information to the description in your kid’s dinosaur book, you may come up with the conclusion that Leviathan is a kronosaurus. I have heard (and read) other suggestions, but the kronosaurus is the best match of any known creature to the description of Leviathan. Some people believe that the Bible is not a scientifically accurate book, and that it is only a “spiritual book,” that forgot about dinosaurs or described them incorrectly. This is not the case. Nobody has ever proven that the Bible contains any inaccurately recorded information. You do not have to believe the Bible just because someone says you are supposed to. That is blind faith, and blind faith is something you do not need with Christianity. The Bible and Christianity have been proven to be true. There is no other religion or “holy writing” that can honestly make the same claim. As to your second question----yes.
