Yes and Yes........... It's the song of Moses and it is that which David is reflecting back upon and also that which John is seeing in the vision.

There is absolutely NOTHING in Revelation that is not in the LAW and the PROPHETS.

When Yahweh delivered the Israelite out of Egypt ( HEATHENS ), they was charged to REMEMBER that day and they song a NEW SONG.

Exodus 15:1

(( THEN SANG MOSES AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL THIS SONG )) unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

Compare the two :

Exodus 15:2

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation.

Psalm 98:1,2

O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things:

Revelation 15:3

And they sing the song of Moses.

Thus is it a song of PRAISE, DELIVERANCE and SALVATION over their enemies, a song of HOPE in the time of trouble.

Moses redeem Israel from age 20, all that was able to go to war, after the death of Moses, no man knew the number of those that made it to Caanaland until John who saw it in the VISION said : " I HEARD THE NUMBER "

No, it is NOT! ! something to come: Rev.1:19 - John is writing about things that WAS / IS and is TO COME.........and: That which has been IS that which SHALL BE, there is no NEW THING UNDER THE SUN. Eccl.1:9 -10

Psalm 98 prophesies the first and second comings of Christ to save both Jews and Gentiles in His Church (vv. 2,3). This salvation will cause a new song (vv. 1, 4-6) to be sung to the Father (the Lord, v. 1). It would be accomplished through the First Coming of Christ, who is called the Father's right hand and His holy arm (v. 1). He is also called the Father's salvation and righteousness (v. 2), and His mercy and truth (v. 3). At His second coming, He will come to judge the world in righteousness and uprightness (vv. 7-9).

Revelation 14:2-3 = The voice from heaven that made the voice of many waters, loud thunder, and harps recalls the sounds of the temple liturgy. This voice sings a new song (v. 3; see 5:8-10; Exodus 15:1-18; Psalm 32:3; 98:1; 149:1; Isaiah 42:10) which only the redeemed faithful from the earth are able to learn.

From Orthodox Study Bible:

Rev. 14:2, 3:

"The 'voice from heaven' that made the sound of many 'waters...;loud thunder...harps' recalls the sounds of the timple liturgy. This 'voice' sings 'a new song (v.3; see 5:8-10, Ps. 98:1; Is. 42:10) which only the 'redeemed' faithful 'from the earth' are able to learn."

So, yes it is the same new song mentioned in Psalm 98:1, 2. Very perceptive of you. When I read this, what comes to mind for me is ancient Byzantine chant. It is very difficult to learn, has been used in the Church Christ came to earth to establish for us since its inception and always seems to lift one to heaven. It is so other-worldly that one cannot hear it and not be spiritually transported to heaven at least a bit. It's so soul moving when sung well, because it doesn't sound like anything else on earth, anywhere.

This last book of the Bible also reveals the number composing the body of underpriests. Those whom Jesus Christ made “to be a kingdom and priests to our God” are shown as singing a new song in which they say that they were bought by Christ’s blood. (Re 5:9, 10) Further on, the ones singing the new song are enumerated as 144,000 persons “bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.” (Re 14:1-5) Finally this underpriesthood is shown as being resurrected to heaven and joining Jesus Christ in his rule, becoming “priests of God and of the Christ” and ruling “as kings” with Christ during his Thousand Year Reign.—Re 20:4, 6.

Although the apostle John himself in the record does not express his exultation over the war’s outcome, we who love the rightful rule of the earth cannot refrain from calling it indeed a victory of God the Almighty. In faith we are moved to take up the words of the inspired psalmist and cry out: “Sing a new song to the LORD, for he has done marvellous deeds; his right hand and holy arm have won him victory. The LORD has made his victory known; he has displayed his righteousness to all the nations. . . . All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.”

When the Bible says "nobody can learn this new song" - guess what, you can't learn it. Nor can you know what you new name will be. The 144 thousand are a small number of believing Jews who eventually return to the Lord, so their new song will be different to anything they have sung before!
