Question:
Are angels and stars on Christmas trees offensive to people who are Atheist?

I am asking this because saw a story on my local news where an Atheist veteran made a complaint because some of the county offices had Christmas trees with angel and star decorations. He said it was forcing the Christian religion on him and a violation of the constitution, and the court decided every star and angel had to be removed from all the county offices. I don't get what the deal is, last time I checked a star wasn't even a religious symbol and I don't think putting some decorations up is really forcing religion on somebody. What do you guys think?

If it's on government ran property it violates the establishment clause in the Constitution!

No religion should be favored over another. While atheism isn't a religion, if only Christmas trees are represented in the building, it is technically unconstitutional.

I don't find them offensive, but I think he's getting at the principle.

They're not offensive; why would they be offensive?

The thought of people following religion just pokes at my heart a little knowing that they choose not to think on the topic of our existence and believe in such absurdities.

Love the false man in the sky more than the tangible beings down on earth.

Pray for things; the little things, the big things. Don't worry, God may or may not take care of it.

Do as I say, and remember that I love you, but If you choose to stray even just a little, you will suffer in hell for all eternity.

To be put simply, it is not the commodities but the concept that we are opposed to.

Some people, like the guy you are speaking about need to get real.

I am an atheist and I love xmas tree decorations, stars, angels and all.

That guy needs to stay home and quit bothering people.

Alot of the holidays we celebrate have pagan origins. And the holydays of God in the old test. which are also found in the new test. were thrown out, and not by God, by man. Mans holidays christmas for example you are lucky if you say a blessing at dinner, other than that Jesus is basically out of the picture. And the bible doesnt even tell us what day Jesus was born. If God wanted us to really figure this thing out...by normal rational thinking you would think if pagans brought it in, it has to be wrong and if Gods holidays were thrown out by man they have to come back, they should still be here. So if God wants us to use our head and the brains He gave us...then bring back the old test. days.

So because you saw one crazy old man on the news, you feel the need to ask if all atheists hate angels and stars on trees?

...No, stars and angels don't offend me.

Well, I'm an atheist, and personally I don't really care. The majority of people in America are Christians, so it's pretty much unavoidable.

He's weird. I'm not offended by it at all.

BTW: The star symbolises the star above Jesus when he was born to guide the kings to his birthplace. See the song: "We three kings" for more information.

Nah...

For instance, I wouldn't mind at all if Cinn, a Christian superfox/cougar, put an angel and star on my tree...

as long as SHE was one of my "Christmas Presents"!
