Only christians follow the bible. Some cults take excerts from the bible out of context and use it for themselves, jews holy book "torah" is mostly contained in the bible, and I believe that the muslim holy book might have parts of the bible too, being a religion that much like christianity stemmed from jewish religion. Pretty much all other religions do not follow it.

Non Jewish and Non Christian religions do not follow the Bible as authoritative. Some have their own Scriptures ,for example:

Islam-Quran

Hinduism,-many such as the Upanishads,Vedas and Epics like the Mahbarata and Ramayana

Buddhism-many Sutras

Some religions have their stories or myths but no scriptures

There are aspects of the bible that are contradictory to itself and so human beings pick to stick to the section with which they're extra gentle i assume. i think of choosing and picking is important even with the undeniable fact that. i think of the bible could desire to be interpreted by questioning it by utilising the formula thesis, antithesis and synthesis. putting it purely the previous testomony is the thesis, the hot testomony is the antithesis and an concept like the Trinity may be the synthesis. this could nicely be a theory in the finished component recognising that there desires to be a stability between contradictory innovations.

One thing I was surprised to see missing from these answers - many Christian sects also do not follow the bible in regards to this teaching. I cannot provide the names of the Christian sects that permit homosexual marriage, but there are more than just a few (unfortunately for both them and us).

Don't accept the premise of his claim. Religious beliefs, whatever they are, are IRRELEVANT to the law of the United States.

Your partner may object to same-sex marriage based on his religion. His/her church may choose to not marry same-sex marriage, but that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the legal right of two people to marry.

For example, the Catholic Church has the right not to marry a non-Catholic to a Catholic (nowadays this is rare, but still happens). However, that has nothing to do with the legal right of people of different faiths to get married.

If I were in that debate, I would his claim is irrelevant and a non-sequiter.

"Don't follow the bible"?

Only christianity does. Judaism includes just what you refer to as the old testament; no others.

99% of them. Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shamanism, Voodoo (it uses a lot of Christian ideals but they do not follow the Bible) , Hellenistic Paganism, Sihkism, Shintoism, every Native American religion, every African religion, every Asian religion, and most of the older European religions.

All religion do not follow the Bible exactly. If they all did it exactly, they all would harmonize and the concept of religion would not exist.

It depends on what church and denomination . Most fundamental or independent baptist follow the bible .
