The scientific method is a method, not a truth claim.

One of the root concepts of the scientific method is verification!

A scientist has a proposal and produces an experiment to see if the projected results match the actual results. The experiment must be reproducible and produce the same results.

So the scientific method is a valid method.

But there is no known experiment that science can do that can produce the results seen.

So I would suggest that because the basic concepts of scientific reasoning have been violated that much of what is passed of as scientific reasoning is not true science. It is science speculation, not fact.

Now I admit it will be hard for science to come up with an experiment that proves the current origin of the universe They have no place to do the experiment and the raw material for such an experiment is also not something they can come up with. Now I will cite that to the best of my knowledge science has proven that a perpetual motion machine is impossible to construct. If this is true, then how does one explain an atom. Science can not even get a satellite to orbit the earth with out it crashing unless there is a on board navigation controller and some how additional thrust is applied. Now if science can not even duplicate the orbit of the moon given all they know- either science is wrong about the universe or they are not as smart as the claim. Well maybe a little (lot) of both.

This question makes no sense. The scientific method was developed as a fool-prove way to determine if something was scientific or not. For example evolution is a scientific theory based on facts. The hypothesis that there may be many universes is not scientific...yet...God can never be scientific.

Truth is not the same thing as fact. Truth is part of non-scientific things. Fact is part of scientific things. You need to read a biology text.

And I do not why you unbelievingly retarded creationists direct your anti evolution crap at atheists...I am Muslim...you obviously no nothing about the scientific method. Let me guess you are home schooled or go to a Christian "school"? Most likely...

...beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here...

As a persona of faith, this question is mind boggling:

A: The scientific method isn't true or false, it's a practical method. It's like saying "if the way you tie your shoes is false..." If there is a more efficient means of discovering the world, it would still not make the scientific method false.

B: What does the scientific method have to do with religious decisions, many atheists have certain cognitive barriers to faith bound in science, but it is ultimately a personal decision.

We're way ahead of you. The scientific method isn't truth. It's a method by which we can use logic to pull together evidence from various observations. It's a way to minimize bias. It's a way to come up with explanations for natural occurrences, with as great a degree of accuracy as possible.

In other words, science is a process, not an answer. It's not about absolute truth, because such a thing is impossible. It's about being as accurate as we can be. In the end, it WORKS. It's what allows us to communicate in real-time on opposite sides of the planet, cure diseases that were a death sentence a few generations ago, and land robotic probes on the surfaces of other planets. I'm guessing that you have a beef with very specific scientific conclusions, but the real world doesn't work that way... and in all likelihood, those things that you disagree about were probably never actual scientific claims.

The "scientific method" is not the truth, it is a tool for finding answers.

What you have asked is akin to asking "What if a hammer is not the driven nail?"

But even if you did find some way to disprove some accepted theory, I still would not believe your assertions that a god or gods exist. Since you posted this where the topic is religion, your intent must have been to prove your unsupportable notions by trying to discredit some other idea. Unfortunately for you, that isn’t how it works, and no matter what happens with the scientific theories it does absolutely nothing to support your position. That has to be done on whatever merits your position has and nothing else.

For example, if Navajos had proven Lamarckian evolution incorrect, that wouldn’t mean the right answer was that the world had been created by Rabbit Boy kicking around a blood clot.

""Atheist: what if the scientific method isnt truth?""

then feel Free to submit the Data Falsifying it right now...

Oh wait,,you don't actually HAVE ANY Date showing the Scientific Method of Investigation is Invalid?

I should have realized just what an idiot you were...LOL

""if scientific method is not truth would you still be atheist?""

Yes..My atheism ISN'T based on scientific Investigation..it is based on the complete LACK of Valid evidence supporting the existence of a god...

What on earth are you talking about? This is the scientific method:

•The scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments.

•The steps of the scientific method are to:

◦Ask a Question

◦Do Background Research

◦Construct a Hypothesis

◦Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment

◦Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion

◦Communicate Your Results

So, genius, explain to me how those steps are "not truth"...

Atheist: what if the scientific method isnt truth?

if scientific method is not truth would you still be atheist?

well, philosophically, there are limited truths, partial truths, provisional truths, incomplete truths; long before there are complete, full, and end-teachings of truth.

for instance, what is the perfect orbit around the earth for a space craft? one orbit to last for eternity? they tried to find one, so that astronauts could circle this most perfect of all worlds, but counldn't; there fore, the scientists invested the idea of something called 'course-corrections' which seemed to work pretty well.

the perfect course would take a dozen super-computers doing over a billion calculations/second for over 1000-years to find the answer.

it does seem like reason and common sense are enough for the common atheist.

It is the truth. The fact that you're on a computer powered by electricity and asking a question over world wide communications network is testament to the fact that the scientific method works. Without science we would have no technology, no infrastructure, no civilization.

If 2+2 = 5 then how many fingers would you have?

methods are neither truth or lies, what a method produces is either truth or lies. The scientific method has been shown as being very effective at produce more truth than lies.

The scientific method doesn't concern itself with truth. Just what can be tested, recorded, quantified and repeated.

The scientific method has demonstrated itself to be the most consistenly reliable method we have of discerning fact from fiction. Once you supply me with a better method, then I will re-examine using it. However, besides the scientific method, what method would you use to determine that the scientific method is faulty?

The scientific method is a way to test questions and hypotheses. Even after a hypothesis is proven right in one test it is still considered a theory. It is also open to debate to whether or not it is true and is usually tested repeatedly. It doesn't have anything to do with Atheism.

the Scientific method is a process

Theory , Evidence , Conclusion Repeat.

A process can't be true or false

The scientific method is simply a process, it doesn't make sense to call it "truth" or not. When properly applied, one can use it to discover truths.

The scientific method doesn't purport anything to be truth, it is the means by which we use testable facts to come to conclusions.

Science doesn't know all the answers but that's not to say everything is unknowable. Indeed that is the beauty of it.

Science just tries to understand the world a bit better for its own ends. It's humble and it certainly doesn't discriminate.
