Question:
If Jesus were not really the Son of God...?

...would His teachings be any less valid or would He be any less worthy of being worshiped for His wisdom?

It seems to me that Jesus was a messenger, first and foremost. Does it matter who is your mail man's father? Isn't the message what counts? Or, is it all BS, if Jesus isn't really the Son of God? What do Christians think about this?

Are the keys to the Pearly Gates He holds in His hands the only reason you would follow His teachings?

You are correct. Regardless of who Jesus was or wasn't His philosophy and teachings were both beautiful and radical. It makes no difference who the messenger was. It was the message that was so revolutionary. " The meek shall inherit the Earth!!!" Unheard of in biblical times.

If you do a google search on jesus and look up other myths that tell of the same or very simalar figures before jesus you will find that the story of jesus has been handed down many times through out human history.

Fundamental to Christianity is the belief in the worth of Jesus' sacrifice. A sacrifice that is made all the more valid by his being free of sin and God's Son. For most, and for me specifically, understanding him as the Son of God is truly the only way to conceive of him. Anything else is truly a reduction of what he was, what he meant to humanity.

He was a great teacher. And he brought a message of love and hope and compassion. But to say he was only a teacher, only a man, is to deny what he means to a lot of people.

If Jesus were not the Son of God then my religion would fundamentally flawed. Because to Christians, it is both Jesus' message and his sacrifice that are important to their faith. In saying that he is not the Son of God, that he is not the Messiah, it is eliminating one of those. And it's pretty important.

The issue is that the teachings of Jesus brought nothing new into the world except for mass delusion.

There is no reason to worship any man. The teachings of Jesus are exactly the same as those of the Buddha. The Buddha is not worshiped.

Good question.

Obviously he is a particularly revered historical personnage since a dividing of time is based on him .....you know, B.C. and A.D.
