Question:
why are priests against contraceptives?

here in the philippines the government wants to run a project that will teach sex education and stuff about preventing HIV to schools etc. why? because our country is overpopulated... if you go to slum areas, because the parents are busy scavenging in the garbage dumps for stuff to sell at junk shops for money, you will see their little kids un-supervised running around the streets even on roads playing, sometimes when the traffic is real heavy the little kids (even 3 year olds) start knocking on car doors begging for money... sometimes i see street kids doing drugs... overpopulation is leading to people starving to death, getting sick from all sorts of diseases and to crime... one time i saw a little girl on the streets without clothes on, her private parts look infected or something, i hope it is just because of infection and not because someone did something horrible... the poor people cant even buy clothes for their kids now because of over population, and they cant supervise all of their dozen kids

then the church people comes along and wants to make contraceptives even harder to get, they want everyone to have a prescription from a doctor before they get contraceptives... the church always wants to get contraceptives banned because they think people using those are "immoral".. since they know they cant win, they resorted to the prescription thing... i just don't see the logic behind it,
WHICH IS MORE IMMORAL?:
1. happy and healthy people using contraceptives to avoid getting HIV and to prevent over population which would lead to poverty etc so that the country will be free of problems OR
2. people who are not using contraceptives, giving birth to dozens of children, spreading HIV all over the place and leaving children to die because of poverty and starvation? which would lead to crime, violence and chaos... and eventually, maybe even dead bodies all over the place

seriously? cant those priests see the problem here if they decide to ban contraceptives or make it harder to get them? even just right now, people aren't using contraceptives and then get pregnant during their early teens, get HIV and all other problems... so they are ok with the problem getting worse, much worse just because using contraceptives are "immoral" to them? WTH!? people here need proper sex education, teach them family planning and HIV prevention and everything... what the hell is wrong with them priests? people here try to talk to them about the situation but they dont reply about the over population and HIV problems etc, all they say is "contraceptives are immoral" WTH!??

why are the religionists here so naive and narrow minded?
they want the problems to escalate? don't they have common sense at all?
what is their real agenda behind that anti-contraceptives thing?
can someone explain to me what those priests are doing
and why they think they are doing a good thing?

"If you could reason with religious people, there wouldn't be any religious people." - Dr. House

Here is the straight truth. They want the people of the Philippines to be poor and ignorant so that they can rule over them. This is more likely to happen if you sustain a high rate of reproduction. Please do not feel singled out over this, it happens this way everywhere. When people are poor and hungry and sick and ignorant, they turn to religious leaders to help them get through it. The religious leaders turn them into slaves in exchange for the coveted afterlife in paradise. Don't fall for it.

They're stupid for thinking that. Contraceptives do not really work to attract people towards sex. The ones who really are attracted to sex will have sex regardless of contraception. So therefore, contraception only is a consideration AFTER one has already turned ones' mind towards sex. I guest these priests aren't very logical.

Moreover, it's way more likely that a teen with a girl/boyfriend will listen to contraceptive advice making them aware of the dangers of STI's and HIV/AIDS and pregnancy, than telling them to remain abstinent altogether. In fact, even here, it'd be more on the safe side to talk about condoms. If you never let them know about condoms, they may fall pregnant or get an STI, and then it's too late. All the Popes or religious parents can do then is be on the receiving end of the 'I told you so' from smarter people.

Nobody ever said religion made sense. But many religious groups are against contraception because more kids=more church members. Also remember that control of women is also behind the desire to strip reproductive autonomy from women, and religion is all about control.

I agree that it is far more immoral to have children you cannot care for than it is to use contraceptives (or end a pregnancy), but the men who run the churches sadly don't see it that way.

And with nearly 7 billion people on the planet, yeah, it's getting a bit crowded here.

An entire set of blocks that said nothing.

Also, how narrow minded are people who think contraceptives are bullet proof? Do you know the one bullet proof plan that will never fail? Its called keeping your legs closed. Your not an animal, dammit. You have a mind of your own that can make choices.

Teach people to keep themselves pure and lo and behold, they will. Oh, but this is the whole new generation of acceptance and do as you please. Its ok to teach people to be slutty, its alright to tell them not to wait, its alright to shirk their responsibility because someone will be there to take up their slack.

Why is it that despite what all that babble you spouted that you failed to mention that people who wait for their marriage have a more successful relationship? Why did you fail to mention that those who did not go around sleeping with random people do not have HIV or other STDs? Why did you not mention parents that planned their life out properly by waiting and being prudent will never have unwanted pregnancies? Oh, because its detrimental to the secular psycho babble that they try to feed those with half a brain, I get it now.

Edit: I got a better idea, how about you stop being a retarded sheep listening to your screwed up resources. The only stupid person I see is a fool who thinks the answer to stopping AIDS and pregnancies is contraceptives that have been proven to fail more often then not. I also would like to point out that the homeless has made their choice in life and that's their problem since they choose to live like that. I have seen plenty of programs that will give them help, but they would rather CHOOSE the bottle, needle, and unprotected sex then get help. When I said teach people I meant children you inferior intellect. Pull your head out your ***.

God Fearing people oppose contraceptives for the same reason they oppose murder; that is, because sexual promiscuity is forbidden in the Bible and it is forbidden by God because it is destructive. Sexual promiscuity is destructing to those engaging in it as well as to the fabric of society.

To make it easier for people to sin (e.g. by providing them with condoms or 'the morning after pill') is not doing them any favors. On the contrary, it is signing the death warrants of many people who do not have to die.

HIV/Aids is not the only ill that befalls a person who falls into sexual promiscuity, but there are other sexually transmitted diseases as well. Further, the damage to their soul and other ills do as much damage.

One way to keep a person a person from catching a sexually transmitted disease is to encourage them to avoid having sex. Not that they should have safe sex, but that they should have NO sex.

And, yes, people - including teens - can avoid having sex. To think that others are too weak just because you are is to display a lack of confidence in your fellow man. When you hold children to a high - but achievable - standard (like abstinence), they will often rise to meet the challenge. The person who thinks that all children won't or can't is saying more about his own weakness then he is about the weakness of others.

What condoms do is protect people from some of the consequences of their foolishness, and when you protect people from the negative consequences of their foolishness, you wind up with a society filled to the brim with foolish people. The thing is, condoms are not 100% effective in protecting people from sexually transmitted diseases nor from pregnancies. Abstinence prevents pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases every time, if it is used constantly and consistently.

To your 1st paragraph, overpopulation is a myth. It is the poor distribution of wealth that is the problem. Greed and domination over others is the real problem. google "myth of overpopulation". Contraceptives DO NOT STOP THE SPREAD OF DISEASE.

Harvard Researcher for AIDS Prevention, Dr. Edward Green, agrees with Pope on condoms in Africa, and he is not even Catholic, but a world's foremost expert.

In answer to your 2nd paragraph, a birth control pill is a medication. It requires a doctors prescription for that reason. Stop picking on the priests for upholding the laws of God. Your real issue is you don't want to be accountable for your own selfish sexual behavour.

The truth about contraception is that it undermines the marraige. It breeds selfishness and increases the divorce rates. It causes suffering in the end. Couples who use Natural Family Planning (religious or not) have a divorce rate of 3%. Couples who use contraceptives have a divorce rate of 63%. What about the kids???

Little girls do not grow up dreaming of hopping from bed to bed and contraception. They dream of a man who will sweep them off their feet and love them forever, and of having his many children. A cynicism born of the sexual revolution has brought emptiness to the hearts, wombs and lives of far too many modern women. This emptiness and pain can be avoided or redeemed and healed by the love of Christ and adherence to His teachings. The Catholic Church believes in such dreams because God wrote them on the human heart. And there are men who long for such a woman to love and cherish.

Real lovers want to give without reserve in God's own superabundance creating more hearts and lives to love. Contraception is like kissing through a screen door and real love cannot tolerate obstacles. Contraception breeds selfishness and separation that drives a wedge between husband and wife that kills love. Real lovers want their love to explode into the posterity of future generations for all eternity. This is the kind of passion and fulfillment God wants for His children. Contraception limits what should be boundless. It spits in the face of this glorious passion and love's true abandon; and that is why it is a sin. It seeks to "tame" love, thus killing it. The Catholic Church is the last bastion on earth of true romance. The modern world has suffocated love and made sex a thing of deadness.

And you rant about common sense.

Catholics are always meddling in other people's business. They never really believed the Dark Ages ended 400 years ago.

they're just minding about religious laws not the real issue of the country. they're being selfish for the country's growth i think. plus priests are not servant of GOD(Jesus' father).that's a fact.

Because priests don't have to worry about it, little boys can't get pregnant.

I wish I could take credit for this quote, but someone smarter than I said it first. If anyone knows who said it first, please let me know:

Religion controls your mind better if it also controls your genitals.
