Question:
MUSLIMS WHY DO U BELIEVE IN THE MOON GOD?
2009-08-19 09:44:37 UTC
u claim allah is the one and only god and Mohamed came to prove that, and we all know mohamed used to practice the pagan rituals as his parents were pagans which is why a lot of the ways of worship are similar to or the same as paganism (which has around 360 gods including the sun stars and moon (Alilah), the moons two daughters who were mentioned in the quran ''al-Lat, al-Uzza and Manat'' )

Actually, there are quite a few errors in your statement.

It is a fact that Mohammad was born an al Hashim of the bani al Quraish and it is a fact that the Hashim did control the Kaaba and that Abu Lahab did insult Mohammad when he performed the tawaf around the Kaaba while the Statues of al Lah, al Lat, al Uzza and al Mannat were still there. There were no 360 Gods there, just 4.

Mohammad was not a Prophet then and he hadn't even met Waraqa bin Nofal.

However, after he became the Prophet and after he returned to Mecca after the Battle of al Bad'r, he did remove the statues from the Kaaba.

However, the story that he destroyed all of them, which was made to make him look like Abraham who destroyed the idols that his father made to sell and feed the family, which the Sahaba and Caliph Uthman wrote may not have been entirely true.

The reason why the Ummayad Caliph Yasid attacked Mecca and destroyed the Kaaba was that he was sure that Mohammad had hidden the statues in the basement and that many of the Meccans were still idolaters.

Anyways, the word al Lah was the Arabic word for the God, and it was used for the idol of Hubal as well.

It doesn't mean that the Muslims continue to worship the old idol which is long since destroyed.

Do the Muslims unwittingly follow the rituals of the old Cult?

Yes.

The Kaaba was the Temple of Hubal and the tawaf, walking widdershins or anti-clockwise around the Kaaba was the old ritual which Mohammad revived. He also revered the al Hajarul Aswad, or the Kaaba Stone and revived the pilgrimage in it's name. And, he changed the qiblah to the Kaaba from Jerusalem. He also lied about the miraculous Zamzam spring being a well near Mecca knowing fully well that the real one was in Beersheba in the Negev Desert of present day Israel.

Do the Muslims know that these things are true?

No. They will never accept it because they've got blind faith in the words of Mohammad and they do not study the History of the Jews with an open mind.

However, the fact is that they believe that they worship the God of Abraham and not anything else.

While they are wrong, I wouldn't blame them because that is what they are conditioned to believe.

Now, I know that I'll be called an Islamophobe and even an Orientalist [because I respect the Hindus and the proto -Hindu Faiths which I find make a lot of sense], but denying History doesn't make it go away.

What Mohammad did was right for him and his people. He needed to give the Arabs who were descendants of Ishmael who were second rate in comparison to the Jews the feeling of supremacy to have them rally around him. So, he did it. He re-wrote History claiming they were the Words of God by simply changing everything and claiming - God said so.

But, that doesn't change facts one little bit.

It only makes the Muslims get the tunnel vision that becomes their reality.

If they would study their own Faith more deeply, they would see all the inconsistencies and know how much of it was all made up by one man and how much they had to cover up for all that.

But then, most of them would start leaving that fold, so, it's not allowed to them and they will only see what they are told to as the Truth.

The most ridiculous thing about the Muslims is that most of them are Ajam, or don't speak Arabic; neither do they belong to the Arab Race where only the Adnani Arabs were the descendants of the Jews who were of the 12 Tribes of Ishmael, and these people like to claim that they are also from the lineage of Ishmael, when in fact, they are not even close to that. Even the Wahabi Kings of Saudi Arabia are non-Adnani because they belong to the lineage of the relatives of Amina binti Wahab who was a pagan and a non-Adnani Arab.

But then, they say "Ignorance is Bliss", don't they?

Sasha:

How would you answer to this question: "Why do you beat your wife?" Chances are that if you don't beat your wife, you will not explain the "why" part, instead you will clarify that you don't beat your wife.

Besides, Prophet Muhammad never practiced any pagan rituals (quote a reference otherwise), he never worshiped those idols in Kaaba, and when Muslims conquered Makkah, all the idols in Kaaba were ordered to be destroyed by Prophet Muhammad.

I copy what Nada has said above, the Quran itself declares the attributes of God in numerous places and none of that refers to "moon god" or anything like that. Some people claim that the crescent is used as an Islamic sign and that means that it must be a cult of moon god but the crescent was not considered as a symbol of Islam / Muslims until the crescent was used by Ottoman Empire (about 700 years after the origin of Islam; Ottoman Empire started in 1302CE and Islam originated in ~610).

The attributes of God are described clearly in the Quran and sayings of Prophet, there is nothing in Islam that preaches "moon god".

1.“Say: He is Allah, The one and Only.

2. “Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.

3. “He begets not, nor is He begotten.

4. “And there is none like unto Him.” (Qur’an 112:1-4)

“And there is none like unto him.” (Qur’an, 112:4).

“There is nothing whatever like unto Him.” (Qur’an, 42:11)

Two verses of Quran that mention Lat, Manat and Uzza are sometimes used to claim that Quran preaches worshipping moon god. If only you read the next three verses you will see that Quran rejects these false gods.

Translation of the verses that mention Lat, Manat and Uzza:

053.019

YUSUFALI: Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,

053.020

YUSUFALI: And another, the third (goddess), Manat?

Christians love to quote these two verses and then stop, let us now quote the rest of the passages:

053.021

YUSUFALI: What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?

053.022

YUSUFALI: Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!

053.023

YUSUFALI: These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!

Maranatha:

The crescent along with the sun has been used in Akkadian seals (2300 BC) as a symbol of moon god but what does that mean for Islam? Nothing.

Upasakha Jason:

You can choose not to believe in Islam but what's important is your source of knowledge about Islam, if you reject it based on writings of Islamophobes or "orientalists" who took text out of context, then you need to read more before you give your verdict.

Why perpetuate the nonsense that Jack Chick puts in his tracts? I disagree with Islam as a belief system, but I don't feel the need to lie about it.

EDIT--For Waqas: Let me clarify my disagreement with Islam as a belief system. My disagreement does not stem from hatred toward Islam or hatred toward Muslims. My disagreement is the same disagreement that I have with any religion that posits a creator-god or an omnipotent, eternal lawgiver. I have never seen any evidence for such a god. My position is not particular to Islam: it extends to all theistic religions as general skepticism.

I hope this sufficiently clarifies my position.

We don't. This is a myth created to make it seem like Muslims are pagan worshipers. And not a very good one, I might add. The Quran says:

"....Prostrate yourself not to the sun or to the moon, but prostrate yourself to God Who created them, if you worship Him.” (41:37)

If we worshipped a “moon god”, why would the Quran tell us not to worship the moon?

archaeological discoveries show idols with the crescent moon and the inscription Lah on them, furthermore your mosque has the crescent moon above them, explain that.
