why are christians ignorant? (read first) it's not that long.?
2011-12-10 14:50:28 UTC
I belonged to a Church that falls under Christianity... it's very well known, but i don't want to mention it.
well my parents are telling me that i'm doing a bad thing by leaving the church i belonged to...
some christians say that only christians go to heaven, if you don't believe in their religion then you go to hell....
And i question that by saying....... who are they to say that??
what will happen to the Buddhist or Hindus etc etc......... they're human like them....
they think religious views do everything......... Science to them is Bullcrap.
Don't get me wrong i believe in God and Jesus somewhat, but i still believe in evolution and the big bang, but all this religious stuff is making me feel like sh*t
i'm almost 18 and off to college, i don't want to worry about this stuff.
i'm not perfect i commit mistakes just like anybody else.
and i do believe religion is man made.
but still any advice? or opinions?
thanks guys.

I would like to offer you a little Christmas advice. The baby Jesus born in the manger came for one reason only. He came to offer forgiveness of sins to those who would simply accept it for themselves. He was born to die for me and you and ALL people. It doesn't matter what denomination you call yourself. A personal acceptance of the offer of forgiveness from Jesus is called being born again. I would ask you this Christmas time to reflect back on that little baby and think about who He is and why He came. It's very simple, don't complicate it. He came into the world for a reason. Sin needed to be dealth with. He loves you so much He came for you. Will you reach out to Him and give Him a birthday gift. Give Him your heart.

Aren't you glad, that when you become an adult, you can chuck all this religion crap?

Even if your parents have hammered you with it, you appear to be using your mind, and already thinking...." This is a real load."

We all go thru this. Some of us really try to believe all of it. I know I had rejected this stuff by the time I was 11, but went back, at 16 joined a church, and the choir too. Didn't work. Logic, reason, and science were and are just tooooo appealing.

There is no god, there is no heaven, there is no hell, and dead is dead...

And death is final and absolute.

Trust me...

My dad and husband were both docs (MDs) and as a kid, I saw lots, when I went with my dad to hospitals or morgues, or rest homes where he signed death certificates.

How do I know?

Simple.

Who you are is your consciousness. That is supported by your circulatory system...heart, lungs, capillaries, arteries, etc.

When that heart stops beating, the blood stops going to your brain.

And with the death of your brain, all you were, are or would have been is gone too.

That's just the way it is.

No one has any proof or even evidence that it is any different.

No one has measured a soul.... that's a churchy idea.

And plenty have tried. If there is one, it weighs nothing.

Get that education, sweetie. And come out of college with a skill that will earn you a nice living.

EDIT: I love some of the answers you got.... you'll be burning in hell (prove it), or baby Jesus was born to save you, (from what?) Death? We will all die.

And you even have a few who are speaking as if they know what some god wants. Where do they come off with that? Prove you know.

The god of the Old Testament is a monster....he bashes out the heads of babies, he tortured a man, just to see if he would stay on god's side. (Job.... he murdered his wife and children). If there is a god, why does he let 1 child on this planet die every 5 seconds of starvation? And if god interferes in our lives, why does he abort fully 20% of all fertilized ova before the end of the first trimester?

He had a man murder his daughter and roast her because this god loved the smell of cooking meat...(Judges, Ch 11... my favorite).

And he murdered as well every child under the age of two.

Problem with Christians is they have this wild idea of what they say god wants and needs but they have never read all of the bible.... they have cherry picked it for the sweet stuff, and left out all the horror.

What do you mean by saying you believe in God and Jesus "somewhat?" If your parents are referring to theories regarding evolution and a Big Bang, then they're right about it being crap. Those theories can't be tested in a laboratory and aren't scientific. If you believe religion is man-made, why would you believe in God and Jesus at all? If you are a born-again Christian, you should go to church. Maybe your parents' church doesn't represent your beliefs, but there are a lot of other churches. If you don't believe in God and Jesus, you're an adult and you can do what you want when you're on your own. By the way, He still believes in you.

Yes, Christians are wrong. All good people will be going to Heaven, not matter what religion they are. By the way, The Muslims say if you don't belong to their religion one will burn in hell. It is all rubbish. I am like you, I am deeply religious/spiritual and I have a relationship with the Father, not Jesus, but I also believe in evolution and science. The Bible was written by men for men about God. It was not handed down from God.

Anybody that says you're going to hell is soothsaying, so they can't be a real Christian.

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.

I think the guys in the old testament needed a thesaurus. On the plus side the people telling you you're going to hell are no better off than the homosexuals they condemn.

I even have observed that there are distinctive Christian bashers yet there are additionally distinctive Christians bashing Wiccans, Pagans, gay human beings, and so on. i think of the bashing is coming from each physique approximately each physique. I even have additionally observed that in the time of a few of my questions i do no longer specify which faith or religious direction i'm speaking approximately via fact I even tend to apply generalities yet in a roundabout way the Christians that respond take it as a private attack on them and their faith that's not often the factor of my questions. So, i think of a few each physique is large overly delicate and others are basically jerks. no you may decide all people else regardless of their ideals provided that is going against particularly lots each faith I even have ever come for the period of. So, in a fashion, we are all somewhat bigoted.

You're right, religion is man made. Look up cargo cults, or Scientology. These are new religions, made in the last century. If they manage to last 2,000 years, they'll seem just as reasonable as Christianity does to many people. A religion is just an old, big cult.

Good luck in college. I'm sure you'll meet others with viewpoints like yours.

Before you put the "ignorant" label on someone you should take a good look at yourself. An honest Christian has no doubt about God's work in his life. There is a physical place that you live in and you are denying yourself the glorious experience of also living in a spiritual place. Science is one of God's most wonderful gifts, but science isn't everything. There is a whole universe that science hasn't found. But science has never looked for this place. If you believe in God, then open your mind to Him.

Any time you pose an initial question like you did: "why are Christians ignorant?" your only attempt is to illicit an aggressively defensive retort. The generalization of the question alone represents you are very immature for eighteen. That in mind, I have faith that what I believe is correct. Or else what would the point be. If I'm right then contradictory belief systems are wrong. Otherwise I merely ride the fence.

Well to put it truthfully it is not us that says that - It is the Holy Bible that says that! It says that those who do not believe in Jesus Christ and accept as their personal Savior will be cast into the Lake of Fire. For all other religions are false and only that which is Pure is of a relationship with God Almighty through Christ born of the Spirit of God and filled with His Spirit to be empowered to be the children of God His Called Out Ones.

1. They say that leaving your church is a sin because we go to church to not only learn about God and Jesus, but to show honor and respect to him. Its a day to remember and to show that you love God and that you care and are giving yourself to him.

2. It does sound very harsh when people say "If you don't belive in God and Jesus you go to Hell." I agree, I've thought that for many years because there are very nice and innocent people who may believe in a religion very far from Christianity. But what it means, is that if you believe that Jesus is God's son, and that he died on the cross to go to heaven, that they are our makers and you if you ask God to take you to heaven, then BAM you're saved and taken to heaven.

And for those who deny God, don't go to heaven. But those who are confused, don't know who God is, struggle with what religion is right and wrong, or are not sure of God, then they are different. God promises to speak to every single person and to guide them in a way that they understand and that its their choice to belive in him or not.

3. And the reason why Christians don't believe in the scientific way that the world was created and ect, is because in a scientist's mind, its impossible for a God to exsists, to talk through a bush (Moses), to build an ark so big to hold every single species of animals (Noah and the Ark). But in Christianity, it is possible through the way of God because God is not human. He is perfect and capable of anything except sinning.

I've been told, hell is just the grave. Christians get eternal life, everyone else is eternally dead. The reason they don't get eternal life, is because they (like everyone) have sinned, but Christians are forgiven by Jesus' death, and because of faith in Him are given eternal life.

Read the Bible for yourself. Start with one of the gospels. Pray that God will reveal Himself to you.

We are not ignorant (at least, not all of us). Belief in evolution and big bang isn't even important really.

God bless.

Gizmo says it all. Look at the ignorance in his answer.

I find irony in the fact that he condemns Buddhism yet Christ's teaching was based on Buddhist philosophy

Errr.... actually I think it was god that said anyone who doesn't worship him goes to hell. From memory it was commandment one.

Mind you, I'm only an atheist, what would I know about christianity.

first of all if you beleive in God ... why do you beleive in evolution... or either against God or with him.... you cant be inbetween. ...

and you are generalizing christians for something that your parents did to YOU... now that is ignorant... not all christains say that, its not about the religion its about your relationship with God. Just becase relgion is man made doesnt mean you shouldnt go to church because then you are only going to hurt yourself.

The bible says anyone who believes in Christ could be save anyone who doesn't but repents could be save.... Buddhist and Hindus will be punished (I bet you they all know who Jesus is so they had a chance) they will be punish unless they believe.... All not all Christians are ignorant I find you ignorant. If you cant follow a religion then leave.

Many christians are ignorant because their religion is so huge that anything foreign to them cannot be accepted.

Do you really wish to put your faith into a God, that will cast you into Hell for eternity, for screwing up a life that isn't even a pin head size on the time line of existence?

it's their rules, they can go to hell

Once you turn 18 you're an adult. You don't have to worry about what they think.
