Question:
Freemasonry and Scientology?

Is there a connection between the two?As I understand it Aleister Crowley (Re;a former Freemason) created the Ordo Templis Orientis as a concise and shortcut version of Freemasonry, discluding empty, feeble and unnecessary dogma and ritual.L.R Hubbard became a personal friend of Crowley. The Religion (aka Fraternity/Maternity) he founded is based on secrets obtained at a higher level of its pyramid structure (namely on Sea Org). Some researchers maintain that the belief in Aliens interacting with man and other wild concepts Scientologists cherish are merely allagorical, serving as a psychological tool to advance the individual.Others state it as a concrete core belief. It appears to me that it is an inescapable fact that Scientology is a result of Freemasonry. What are your thoughts on this?

Some people will just spout anything that pops into their minds won't they?

Crowley- NOT ever a Mason. His two months spent trying to join an illegitimate "Masonic" lodge (even they turned him down) doesn't count.

Where is your evidence Crowley and Hubbard ever even met, much less became friends? Crowley died in 1947, Hubbard was born in 1911, of the 36 years they shared on this earth, Hubbard never went to England and Crowley never came to the U.S. Chances they communicated through writing are just as slim, as by the time Hubbard was old enough to have his own cognizant thoughts, Crowley was well past his ability to have them, his opium addled brain having turned to pudding by then.

I'm not going to claim any specific knowledge of Scientology, or the position they hold on Masonry, but I can tell you the group of them who accosted me in Austin a couple of years ago seemed to carry some ill-will towards Masonry. I will speculate that that action was not isolated to that specific group though.

Nope- Scientology says which you have psychological problems them says which you will could provide a great number of time (and funds) to Scientology to get your self straightened out. Freemasonry assumes which you're a sturdy properly meant guy and merely gives you ethical examples to persist with.

Freemasons accept homosexuals, and are largely a homosexual organisation. Scientologists dont believe in homosexuality.

Scientology and Freemasonry at thier core are not very compatable. Niether organization has ever been related. Freemasonry lets the individual determine the design of his own creation, as a fraternity and not a religion it is open to anyone professing the belief in a single god or "supreme being" Scientology is the absence of a creation or a creator, and does not endorse the idea of a single god creating the world or the people in it.

One must also remember athiests are not endorsed for regular masonic membership. Or membership in a lodge that is in amity with the United Grand Lodge of England. Freemasonry as a fraternity and not a religion also does not consume the persons life, We do not tell our members in Freemasonry they have to fork over large sums of money to thier lodge, in many cases members pay a modest fee in annual dues, much like any organization and the money goes to any number of the charitable organizations created and funded soley on masonic lodge proceeds. (Childrens Home, Shrine Burn Centers etc)

Freemasonry also endorses freethinking, open to many ideas brought on by such a large demographic of members. We do not dictate to anyone "this is what you will believe" it is contary to making everyone in the lodge feel included, regardless of thier religion. Scientology IS a religion and dictates its beliefs to its membership. Freemasonry is very much otherwise.

Aleister Crowley never was a Freemason. His pictures of him in masonic regailia was to defame the establishment of the fraternity in Great Britian. Regalia can be bought at any masonic shop, but like anything else it doesnt mean anything unless you have earned it. The pictures of him wearing the hat of a 33rd Degree is more a slight on many good men who have spent long hours in service to thier fellow man who have tirelessly labored for the betterment of humanity. It didnt have any more meaning to Crowley than if he put a jesters cap on and took the same picture.

I think this whole question is more of a trial and error. What I suggest you do is read legitimate novels and historical accounts on Freemasonry. These are available at any reputable library (including the library of congress) before making veiled questions like the aforementioned. Any reasonable person given the level of attention to Freemasonry in recent years would be able to determine for themselves that there is no relationship in any way,

Freemasonry and Scientology aren't related.

Crowley wasn't a Freemason. Ever. He did buy regalia for a photo shoot, but that doesn't make him a Freemason. That makes him a guy wearing stuff he bought in a store, and wearing it incorrectly.

Crowley and Hubbard appear to have known of each other, but don't appear to have been "personal friends" of any kind.

The link between Hubbard and Crowley manifested through Jack Parsons, the rocket scientist at Caltech, Pasadena, California. Parsons was interested in paganism, goddesses, magic etc

"Parsons used his defense contract money to convert an old mansion into a group house whose residents included other Pagans, artists, scientists, and writers. One of his boarders was a charismatic science fiction author named L. Ron Hubbard, who became Parsons' greatest frenemy, participating in rituals of sex magic with the rocket scientist, sleeping with his girlfriend, and finally absconding with all his money. Here is the true story of how Scientology and JPL were both conceived by men under the sorcerer Crowley's mystical influence. "
