Question:
Aren't Catholics Christians also?

Christians believe in Christ as their lord and savior. Yet when you hear a person from the Protestant side of Christianity if they are Catholics they answer "No, I'm Christian" why is that? --A wiccan

Catholics are Christian. They were the very first Christian church as a matter of fact. It was the Catholic church that Martin Luther broke away from. All the Christian denominations in the world come from the Catholic church originally. I don't know how you can get any more Christian than that.

Historically, Catholics and Protestants haven't gotten along very well. Incidents like the Thirty Years War (where millions of both faiths died) and Inquisition-style torture on both sides have pretty much poisoned the relationship. Some Protestants call Catholics "unchristian idoloters" because they pray to Mary and the saints, while a number of Catholics consider Protestants "damned souls" for having broken with what they consider "the true Church."

Also understand, however, that many Christians nowadays (I'm ashamed to say ESPECIALLY Protestants) have a very hazy idea of what they are and what they believe. I know several Baptists who didn't know that they were Protestants, for example. So in answer to your question, it boils down to Protestants' strong traditional dislike for Catholics OR the fact that they don't understand the terminology.

Yahushua Messiah only built one church, His (Matthew 16:18).

Yahushua Messiah only purchased one church with His blood (Acts 20:28).

Yahushua Messiah adds the saved only to His church (Acts 2:47).

There is only one body, composed of many individual members (Ephesians 4:4, First Corinthians 12:12-27), and the body is the church (Ephesians 1:22-23, Colossians 1:18,24), so there is only one church composed of many individual members. Christians are people who are saved, and the saved are added by the Lord to His church, as we noted earlier. Baptism (which literally means immersion, submersion, dipping, plunging) is what gets us into the body (First Corinthians 12:13), so immersion is what gets us into the church. Immersion saves by contacting the blood of Christ through faith (Mark 16:16, First Peter 3:21), and belief and repentance must come before immersion (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Acts 8:36-37). The Roman Catholic Church, and virtually every other denomination does not meet these standards as laid forth in Scriptures. So the Roman Catholic Church, and virtually every other denomination, though while based upon some principles of Christianity, are not true Scriptural Christianity. Perhaps that is exactly why so many atrocities have been committed by people who call themselves Christians, because they were never Christians to begin with.

Of course Catholics are Christian. I hear the same thing as a Latter-Day Saint. People are always trying to tell me what I do and do not believe.

Yes, they are. :-) Catholics also believe in Jesus, too. Imho, anyone who believes in Jesus' teachings can be termed a christian (even if they do not attend church).

There is a saying among pagan groups I used to hang out with years ago: "All wiccans are pagans, but not all pagans are wiccans."

The same saying can apply to christians and catholics: "All catholics are christians but not all christians are catholics." :-)

Maybe so, but it just shows that all forms of religiosity are silly creations of confused minds who didn't study enough basic science to know that all comes from mother nature. Asking 'Who did all this?' is silly, because the right question is simply to study natural sciences, research the facts of life and ask 'Why did nature put sooo much intelligents into other forms of life and so much arogance and ignorance into homosapiens?' so that we end up being so preoccupied with man and care so little about all the other forms of life even if we could gain a lot by learning how to relate to such highly intelligent beings as whales and dolphines ... maybe it's time to study how evolution really works and apply it in every day life so humans become fit to see themselves as a product of nature and not keep abusing her ...

A difference in authority... Protestants don't believe in the Pope as the Catholics do.

None the less, we are all brothers and sisters in Chrisianity.

I understand that Catholicism is considered a Christian religion however if you base this on the origin and beliefs of Catholicism it actually is a Pagan religion. Catholicsm originated in the back of Pagan Churches. Christianity spun from Catholicism, and they are all confused about everything.

Catholics are Christian, but Latter Day Saints aren't - they are Mormon and some of their views are completely different than views of Christians. - a Baptist

While it is possible for a catholic to be Christian, catholicism isn't a Christian religion. Christianity is based on truth, catholicism isn't.

That is a big question for me also. It's hard for me to understand why a religion that ordains homosexuals, child molesters then tries to cover up for them, can call thierselves Christians?????????
