Question:
To the Faithful and Faithless: Do you really believe that Yahoo R&S should be a platform for prayer requests?

I don't think so. A prayer request is not a question and answer.

When I mentioned this to a lady earlier on I got 8 thumbs down. This means that there is support for the notion of including prayer requests into this section.

Do you think prayer requests would serve a valuable role for Christians on this site?

I do not believe that Yahoo is a good platform for prayer requests because there are many people of different faiths and beliefs here. They are very quick to say nasty things to people without any consequence. Unless Yahoo offered a Christian prayer category that was monitored to uphold Christian responses, it would not serve much purpose. Also, if you are posting prayer requests, you need to post them where there is a high probability that Christians will come, read, and actually pray. I personally believe the "Religion and Spirituality" section is too large. I make this comment after reading countless hateful comments that have been posted and not removed by Yahoo. This section would be more meaningful if it included categories such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Catholic, Jehovah Witness, LDS Mormon, Atheism, Agnosticism, Humanism, etc... Then, questions could be placed in the correct places, and there would not be the need to tolerate the hateful comments made so often by people of different beliefs.

There are places on the Internet that do just what you suggest. Before it could be successful at Yahoo, Yahoo would need to make some changes.

I think a prayer request is a lot more appropriate than preteens trying to be funny.

No, it isn't a question, but with all the barbs, insults, and other put downs that happen here, I find it refreshing that someone could feel enough family here to ask for prayers.

No, this should not be a platform for prayer requests, but it should be a platform that accepts, not rejects those that need help.

Am I wrong in this?

I may be dense, but "would you pray for me?" sounds like a spiritual question to me. We could give a brief scenario after an introductory question, then ask for prayer in the details, but what's the diff? I think that if we begin monitoring what is appropriate in this section, then the idiots who begin with "spiritually speaking" and then ask some dumb question should also be banned for life from this site. Let's start there. Atleast a prayer request is an honest question.

Yes, I believe that prayer requests should be allowed on this site, I don't see a problem with it, it is a Religious and spiritual thing so why not?

"for Christians on this site?" More than just Christians, Most if not all religions have prayer, and many people ask for prayer whether Christian or not.

I think it could serve as a valuable role for christians on this site maybe that's why the atheists are questioning whether or not to allow it!

Absolutely not it is in breach of the guidelines that people sign up to agree to comply with. Therefore surely prayer requests breach that undertaking and are therefore a sin!!

There are plenty of chat sites and forums for that sort of thing.

All prayer requests do is show christianity in a bad light!!

It is ok for prayer request and it is a question and answer. A person is asking for people to pray for them. People answer by say "Yes, I will pray for you" or "no, I will not pray for you". And sometimes the answer given can help the person see a possible solution for the issue they are facing.

If you don't wish to see a prayer request you are free to ignore it. You choose to read the prayer request by your free will.

I think prayer requests are fine. They would be questions and if they give good details for why they want our prayers we'd be able to pray specifically for them rather than praying generically for say the 'needy'. And yes they could be a valuble role for everyone especially if they come back and tell us their prayer has been answered or not.

A prayer request can be done as a question.People often ask:

"Can you pray for.....?"

By the way,if God leads someone to give a prayer request then it is none of your business, now is it?

That depends. Was their question, "Will you pray for me?" However I do believe there are probably better websites for them to request such a favor. On Y!A, it should have at least been in the "Polls & Surveys" section.

The only reason you got eight thumbs down is because eight Christians saw your answer.

I agree - prayers are questions without answers.

Reminds me of the "Bruce Almighty" scene where Bruce gets all the prayer requests on his pc...

It's as pointless as praying itself.

Doesn't have a place on Y!A.

who does it hurt? it's people reaching out to others for help, i might not share their faith, but they're not imposing it on anyone else, you can chose not to answer. if we're going to start judging the worth of questions, there are other places i would look first.

at least they're not presuming to pray for me or anyone else who hasn't requested it... technically a request is a question.

I don't think so - there are other forums for that...

Don't stress about the thumbs down, it means you're provoked some opposition is all....

no.there must be a christian thread that they can congregate at for that type of activity.people shouldn't waste our time with prayer requests.Maybe they shouldn't interfere with divine justice.
