Which is the Church of the Bible? Lets review.

~~The Church is Visible

Jesus said his Church would be "the light of the world." He then noted that "a city set on a hill cannot be hid" (Matt. 5:14). This means his Church is a visible organization. It must have characteristics that clearly identify it and that distinguish it from other churches. Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). This means that his Church will never be destroyed and will never fall away from him. His Church will survive until his return.

Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. (Most of today’s Protestant churches are actually offshoots of the original Protestant offshoots.)

If we wish to locate the Church founded by Jesus, we need to locate the one that has the four chief marks or qualities of his Church. The Church we seek must be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.

~~The Church Is "One"

(Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor. 10:17, 12:13, CCC 813–822)

Jesus established only one Church, not a collection of differing churches (Lutheran, Baptist, Anglican, and so on). The Bible says the Church is the bride of Christ (Eph. 5:23–32). Jesus can have but one spouse. His Church also teaches just one set of doctrines, which must be the same as those taught by the apostles (Jude 3). This is the unity of belief to which Scripture calls us (Phil. 1:27, 2:2).

~~The Church Is "Holy"

(Eph. 5:25–27, Rev. 19:7–8, CCC 823–829)

By his grace Jesus makes the Church holy, just as he is holy. This doesn’t mean that each member is always holy. Jesus said there would be both good and bad members in the Church (John 6:70), and not all the members would go to heaven (Matt. 7:21–23).

~~The Church Is "Catholic"

(Matt. 28:19–20, Rev. 5:9–10, CCC 830–856)

Jesus’ Church is called catholic ("universal" in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matt. 28:19–20).

For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).

The Church Jesus established was known by its most common title, "the Catholic Church," at least as early as the year 107, when Ignatius of Antioch used that title to describe the one Church Jesus founded. Ignatius was a disciple of St. John the apostle.

~~The Church Is "Apostolic"

(Eph. 2:19–20, CCC 857–865)

The Church Jesus founded is apostolic because he appointed the apostles to be the first leaders of the Church, and their successors were to be its future leaders. The apostles were the first bishops, and, since the first century, there has been an unbroken line of Catholic bishops faithfully handing on what the apostles taught the first Christians in Scripture and oral Tradition (2 Tim. 2:2).

Jesus assured the apostles and their successors, the popes and the bishops, "He who listens to you listens to me, and he who rejects you rejects me" (Luke 10:16). Jesus promised to guide his Church into all truth (John 16:12–13).

So the bible tells us it is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Peace be with you

Christian's themselves are the church. It is not about the building (that is where we meet to fellowship together and to worship the Lord). Did the early church have any issues relating to people quibbling over whose church was the best or which leader they should be following?

Some people believe that you won't be saved if you belong to the wrong denomination, however who does Jesus say will be saved?

Since the beginning of time, there has always been an adversary that has always strived to ruin God's plan and cause division, confusion and disharmony. The church is no exception. I do agree that there are some wrong teachings and traditions of man in the church. All of us should try to follow the example of Christ and His teachings, in time He will show us if we are in a particular church that is clearly not right.

Edit: Do you know of real miracles of healing, answered prayer, or of amazing conversions to Christ by His grace? Do they only happen in only one true church or denomination?

There will be truly born-again Christians in most of the denominations and there will be people who believe that they are Christians who attend all these churches who are not saved. No-one is a Christian simply because they were brought up to attend church regularly or because they believe in God.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except by ME." John 14:6

Anyone not accepting Jesus as Saviour and believing that He died to take our punishment for sin is not Saved regardless of which church they attend and how often they attend. The amount of good works they do also does not make them saved - although good works are important.

Any church which adds its own doctrine to what we are taught in the bible is also not a Christian church, even though those who attend will refer to themselves as Christians. One of the last few verses in the last book of the bible tells us that we must not add to, or take away from, the words of the bible and it tells us what God will do to those who do that. Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and Roman Catholics all add to the teachings of the bible and are misleading their congregations.

The main differences in the other denominations such as Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostals etc. are usually style of worship (some are more exuberant than others) or are regarding the emphasis which they place of things like baptism, speaking in tongues etc. but they are not adding to or taking away from scripture.

None of us will know until we meet the Lord face-to-face how many mistakes we made and we can be sure that none of us will have got everything 100% correct.

It's easy to see that the masses of churches claiming that they are all true, and yet teach very different and even conflicting doctrines are false. An actual reading of the Bible reveals this very clearly. And yet, it's pretty hard to believe that the child-molesting Catholic priests are the stewards of God's true Church either. All churches teach many true things, but most have lost their way from the humble path that God has laid out. Sadly, this usually leads thinking people to conclude that there is no true Church of the Living God and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as I did for many years. But don't give up hope. Talk to the Elders of the Mormon Church. If you're like me, that sounds like a pretty wild idea. But what can I say? When the others abandoned Him, God had to raise up a new branch. It's called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (commonly known as the Mormon Church). You'll get nothing but the plain honest truth from the Mormon missionaries. Rather than try to convince you of something with clever arguments, they will teach you how to learn the truth directly from the Holy Spirit of promise. Good luck! There are many many paths that lead TOWARD God, but only one leads TO God.

Jesus didnt have in mind that people were going to start calling him the son of god. He saw himself as a prophet of god, just like moses and abraham, but his followers revered him to the point where they started worshipping him. No, he didnt found 203 denominations (although there are more like 40000) . There was just one church, but it was corrupt, so IT became two churches, Catholic and Greek Orthodox, but the Catholics held reign for a 1000 years in corruption, till the 1500s when Martin Luther kick started the Protestant Reformation, and from then a bunch of churches just started coming and coming, To know where you have a religion within a religion. They al lclaim the other are false, because they are sects and thats what sects do

what is the definition of a church ?

it is a group of believers coming together in worship ... is called a church.

from your words, you view church as a denom, a building = error.

therefore a group of believers coming together in the Name of Jesus is called a church.

now, the imp. factor to note is the DOCTRINES that this group believe in.

for eg.

jw, mormons, adventists, pentecostals .... are OUT for obvious reasons.

jehovah's witness don't grasp the idea of WHO Jesus is .. that Jesus is God.

seventh day adventist = same as jw above.

pentecostals ... the central point of their worship is speaking in tongues. The Q is are they speaking heavenly language or satanic language ? I read a book where someone testifies that they were speaking in his language cursing God but the others in the congregation could not understand his language ... italian ... so they kept up the frenzy.

doesn't the bible teach us to TEST the spirit ?

it is obvious these people do not test the spirit and they don't know how to either.

you walk into a pentecostal church, the next thing you know, they pray tongues on you = that is what pentecostal beliefs are all about ... tongues n more tongues.

None of the churches you see today are the true church. The churches we see around us are all false. They are filled with demon possessed people, they don't even have the Holy Spirit anymore. They are totally fallen away. But the good news is that the true church, the true body of Christ, will never be stopped. The gates of hell can't prevail against it. We exisit. We have survived! We are here! We will be waiting for Jesus and we will be ready for Him.

There is only one true church and that is those who are saved, preach salvation through Jesus Christ, and proclaim Christ's message on how to be a Christian(follower of Christ, Christ-like). That means studying the whole Word of God, not interpreting it, from Genesis to Revelation. As far as denominations go, whoever follows Christ's teachings the way He tells us to is the right one. People who founded their church denomination off of one or two verses in the Bible is not the right one. In fact, it goes against God. God says listen and follow all of my words, nothing added and nothing taken away.

God only NOMINATED one way!

Man has de-nominated that way (broken it up)

... like the "unjust stewards" who told those that owed the master 100 to "make it 50".

The 100, the full measure is that all should repent, be baptised (as a believer) and receive the fulness of God's Spirit (evidenced by speaking in tongues):

Acts 2:4, 33-39

Anything else is a de-nomination!

(note, even some "pentecopstals" are NOT faithful to this, they compromise and add emotionalism)

Let me know if you sincerely want to be in a Church like Jesus set up.

The Catholic one. And I'm not just saying that. The other churches are more like prayer groups....but the Catholic church...I've never heard one bad thing preached from the pulpit about other denominations except one of unity and prayer....and the other denominations seem to exist only to tear down all other denominations. It is not about "domination". It's about healing and grace, peace and strength through weakness. But most of all, it is about the Presence. Jesus doesn't "want" the Catholic church. Jesus is 'in" the Catholic church.

The church founded by Christ consists of those who believe that he is the one and only true living God - not a particular denomination.

Some of these you have listed don't even preach the truth of the Bible, in fact they have their own books which focus on distorting the truth of the Bible. They are not Christian denominations, but anti-Christian groups, or cults. The true Church of God follows the truth of the Bible completely and this is not limited to just the knowledge, but also having love for God and for their fellow man. Christians are supposed to point people to Christ and worship Him in truth.

no religion is the true church

the true church Jesus established was people who have called on Jesus to save them and believe he arose from the dead. Romans 10:9
✞ Ephesians 2:8 ✞
2010-04-27 22:30:28 UTC
✞ Any church that preaches that Jesus Christ IS the Son of God who was slain for the sins of man kind is the Church that Jesus will be looking for....The reason that there are so many denominations is because Jesus is the Head of the Church, we are His body...(Body of Christ)...Just as we have different members in our body , so does the Body of Christ...
2010-04-27 22:53:55 UTC
Actually, Jesus doesn't like denominations.

"What I mean is this: One of you says, 'I follow Paul'; another, 'I follow Apollos'; another, 'I follow Cephas'; still another, 'I follow Christ.' Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul?"

I Corinthians 1:12-13

While my beliefs are closest to Lutheran, I just say I am Christian.

There is only one true church. This church follows the Bible completely without mixing up paganism in their worship of Jehovah. All other false religions will be destroyed.

Jesus does not want a "denomination". There will be no denominational headings in Heaven. He will accept only people who accept Him and believe and trust in Him.

Good question. Joseph Smith asked the same question in sincere prayer in 1820.

When he did, God and Christ revealed themselves to him. They indicated that Christ's true church had been lost from the earth and that at that time no church was guided by Christ himself. They indicated that in time, he would be called to be a prophet of God, to restore Christ's original church to the earth, and be led to another book of ancient scripture that was written by prophets who lived in the Americas.

You can, and should, read his story here:

Feel free to drop me a line if you have further questions. God can, does, and will answer prayers and lead us to the truth.

The one he started and the one that was around for over 1500 years before others started to pop-up following men.
