It's not normal - who knows why he wanted to come to your house but it probably wasn't to speak about the Lord... You did the right thing.

Just FYI, Mormon missionaries always travel as a pair. There are always two of them together. Whether young men or women, they are never to be without their companion. They have i.d. tags and they also have very strict hours. It is very unlikely that one would be out alone at 10:00 pm.

You didn't say what religion this missionary claimed to be but you did the right thing. This is NOT a normal thing. You were right to be safe.

I would say this missionary was an imposter. You are lucky he didn't persist and overtake you.

Good for you.

Mormon missionaries all have ID tags and information on their person. You should always ask if you are not comfortable, or call 911.

Oh, he shouldn't have done that. That WOULD be scary. Maybe he wasn't even a missionary. I guess there's a possibility that he was up to no good.

Shows the desperation....that is plain rude there is a time and a place for soliciting...

Well, you should have said what kind of missionary he was. If you are talking about a Mormon missionary (like he looked like a Mormon missionary), if he was alone believe me... it was someone posing to enter your house. Mormons missionaries can never be alone and at 10:30 PM they are supposed to be in bed (they have strict schedules), so at 10:00PM they are not around anymore, they are at home already. Did you notice if he had a name plate on the left side of his white shirt that says Elder [insert last name] and said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

If you see him again and he is alone, even if he has a name plate, try to avoid him. But seriously... even if he has a companion and it is that late at night both of them could be posers, not real missionaries and are planing something...

If he didn't look like a Mormon missionary, umm.. I don't know what to advice you but it is kinda creepy that someone wants to go to your house to preach at 10:00PM, you better watch out.

Good luck and be safe

NO. it is totally inappropriate. You did the right thing and are alive today to ask this question.

OK, let's take this one thing at a time...

1)He snuck up on you...this is not something a Christian or missionary would do. We don't hide in the shadow of darkness, we are to be the light of the world!

2)He asked for you addresss and permission to come to your home...a missionary would speak to you right then and there and would not need access to your home or your personal information in order to share the gospel with you!

3)It was almost ten at night...why was he out so late on a Wednesday? He should have either been in church, on his way home from church, or at home already with his wife and children!

4) What type of missionary meets people in the parking lot of a store? They usually have specific groups of people that they are witnessing to AND most male missionaries will either have a female along with them or will not approach a single female for propriety's sake!

This man was probably posing as a Christian or missionary in order to gain access to your home to either rob you or worse. You did the right thing and your actions probably saved your life! God bless!

I don't believe it is normal for a missionary to be lurking in a dark parking lot at 10:00 at night. It would have unnerved me also. He is lucky he did not get a face full of pepper spray. I would not be surprised if he wasn't a missionary, but a pervert! Am glad you got home safely.

Common sense would tell him not to do that, missionary or fraud. Report him to the store. The other night 2 guys were hanging out at a local grocery store in front. The security officer shooed them off, but they came back later and robbed a woman at gun point as she was unlocking her car......they got away with her purse and the woman was so hysterical her 2 small children ran into the store to get help. She was laying on the parking lot in shock and fear and couldn't move. Please don't go into parking lots alone anymore. It's just not safe in our times.

Lmao no! i am a missonary and come from a long line of missonaries and i cna honestly say none of us have ever done that. As missonaries you should know to keep your distance and take no for an awnser, the goal is to have awnsers for the curious not cram it down ppls throats. I would be careful you never know who you are dealing with. I would honestly have locked up my house and be so paranoide about that, never let a stranger in your house even if it is a preist ppl are sick these days. He should have just handed you a bible or something not scare you!

News Flash to those bashing missonaries

By the way not all missonaries are nut jobs!!!!! Many of us have guts like my grandma who went to japan to translate bibles and she knew she could get sick from the radiation that the nuke left but she went any way because it was what she belived in! i am damn proud of her because she did get sick and die from the radiation, dieing from a slow and painful death of pancreatic cancer but at least she made a difference in those kids lives. Dont be stereotypical about a group of people you dont even know!!

any hoo to the girl who posted the question you did the write thing

Wow! You should have gotten your mace and cell phone ready. I'm sorry this happened to you. It must have been bit disturbing. I'm glad you are ok. When something like that happens again, call the police. A true missionary don't share their faith like that.

That's not right for any guy (no matter who he is) to approach a single person in a dark parking lot. If it is normal for them to approach people like that, then they need to change their practices.

I had a guy come up to me in a dark parking lot (I was by myself, but thankfully on the phone) to see if I would give him a ride. He was way bigger than me and it spooked me the way that he approached me.

I've never heard of a "normal" missionary. I thought that they were all nutjobs.
2008-01-24 19:04:37 UTC
It's not normal no. Unfortunately, the person was so heavenly minded that he was no earthly good.

Possibly good intentioned but wrong means.

If the person was a Christian I apologize on behalf of the rest of us.

Not normal but is anything they do remotely "normal?" And to Andy (etc) the terms are mutually inclusive.

Usually missionaries are gay so you must be really hot that he wanted to turn from The Gay.
