There are some real, historical places mentioned in the Bible, which makes some people think the entire story is real. But hey, didn't Peter Parker sling his webs in a real-life city too?

Although the Bible contains many references to Moses and the Egyptians there is nothing in any Egyptian Tomb about Them or Moses. There's nothing about the parting of the Seas or the Exodus or anything else the Jew's did . Yet the bible goes on and on about it' The Egyptians are famous for recording almost everything They did and You would think They would have put down something about the time the Jew's spent in Egypt but there's nothing. Same applies to the Romans and what They wrote about Jesus. Nothing . Not one single word about Him or the Crucifixion or anything else the Bible say's. So if You're looking at the Bible to confirm any Historical events or much else You'd be better off looking somewhere s else.

Why do some Christians say the bible is a reliable Historical document ? There are actual places listed and if the people did all the stuff they say I would be ashamed to say it was my history . Quotes Moses " Kill all the men . women and Children , but save the virgins for yourself as god commanded . sounds like ISIS to me then if that is the case someone is repeating your history today

This is simple to refute. Just because something contains a fact does not mean at all that everything else in it is factually and historically true. For example, the Greek legends and myths describe a Mount Olympus where the Greek gods reside. Now, just because there is an actual place called Mount Olympus in Greece that exists, does that also mean that the deities Zeus, Hera, Apollo, etc., also existed and that all their myths and legends are all true? Of course not! In the movie The Wizard of Oz, the beginning takes place on a farm in Kansas. Now, since Kansas is an actual state in the US, does that mean this whole movie is historically true and unquestionable? Hollywood movies often contain actual places that exist such as New York, Los Angeles, etc. yet the stories in the movies are fiction of course. Likewise, just because there are cities and events in the Bible that are known to have existed, does not by any means make all the events in the Bible historical facts! The writers of the time do know of places that exist in their area of course, and it would be natural for them to include those places in their stories.

They believe that God gave the Bible's writers inspiration to write the Bible. God is believed to have had no beginning and will have no end-- He has always just existed. He is also believed to know everything about anything. Because of this, the Bible must truly be a reliable historical document.

The whole Bible is inspired by God, who directed men to write it down physically. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Pet.1:20 & 21) Jehovah can't/doesn't lie like men do(Titus 1:2, Numbers 23:19), so the Bible's entire content can be trusted. Also the principles found within the Bible are a product of perfect wisdom, which is why when they are followed people are able to attain the best way of life. (Isa.48:17 & 18)

True Christians believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and that God does not lie. It is hard to understand how someone can identify as Christian (meaning follower of Jesus Christ), yet not believe what Jesus teaches. Jesus taught only as instructed by his father Jehovah. These are the teachings found in the Bible. Therefore, all information in the Bible is the truth, whether it is historical, scientific, or prophetic. For more information about how we can rely on the Bible to provide real answers to life's important questions. Best regards.

The fact of the matter, the reason they say that is because if they are a true child of God then they know that God word the bible is God only true word, because God is not a liar, like Satan the father of lies, Satan has been a liar from the beginning and he will be a liar until the end when God Jesus Christ comes back to judge the living and the dead, and too destroy the heaven and the earth by fire, the second death, where the heaven and the earth shall be burned up, by the hell fires.

Because it is! The books of the Bible contain a lot of history. Much of it has been born out by other writings, and by archaeology. Some things have not, e.g., the role of the Jews in Egypt. Little has been found about this outside of Scripture. This does not mean it didn't happen, however. Much of the historical parts of the Bible have been shown to be literal history. Of course, quite a lot of the writings are not history! But, they were never intended to be.

Because they do not read the bible and they don't know any history...

"Professor Finkelstein, who is known as "the father of biblical archaeology", told the Jerusalem Post that Jewish archaeologists have found no historical or archaeological evidence to back the biblical narrative on the Exodus, the Jews' wandering in Sinai or Joshua's conquest of Canaan. On the alleged Temple of Solomon, Finkelstein said that there is no archaeological evidence to prove it really existed."

I am a Christian who now believes that The Bible is a reliable advanced science Book.

While I was doing an in-depth study of the clean and unclean food and hygiene laws established over 3500 years ago in the Book of Leviticus I made a discovery. The reason why these laws and instructions have been so hard for mankind to interpret and understand is because they have been based all this time on someone's working knowledge of the germ theory of disease and the modern human body and other advanced fields of science unknown to mankind at that time and some fields of science unknown to mankind today. This discovery now proves the existence of a Intelligent Designer that knew these fields of science long before mankind learned of them. Those who believe that the ancient Israelites learned to establish these laws and instructions though observation alone over time are greatly mistaken. They were taught to follow these new strange laws and instructions by a God named Yahweh.

That is: documentS as the bible is made up of 66 books, that were originally scrolls.

Because it is a fact that the bible gives reliable historical fact, since this is the word of God and thus, cannot possibly be a lie!

the bible is a collection of ancient manuscripts

How do we know the Bible has been kept in tact for over 2,000 years of copying?

Before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, our earliest Hebrew copy of the Old Testament was the Masoretic text, dating around 800 A.D.

The Dead Sea Scrolls date to the time of Jesus and were copied by the Qumran community, a Jewish sect living around the Dead Sea.

We also have the Septuagint which is a Greek translation of the Old Testament dating in the second century B.C.

When we compare these texts which have an 800-1000 years gap between them we are amazed that 95% of the texts are identical with only minor variations and a few discrepancies.

There are tens of thousands of manuscripts from the New Testament, in part or in whole, dating from the second century A.D. to the late fifteenth century, when the printing press was invented.

These manuscripts have been found in Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Greece, and Italy, making collusion unlikely.

The oldest manuscript, the John Rylands manuscript, has been dated to 125 A.D. and was found in Egypt, some distance from where the New Testament was originally composed in Asia Minor.

Many early Christian papyri, discovered in 1935, have been dated to 150 A.D., and include the four gospels.

The Papyrus Bodmer II, discovered in 1956, has been dated to 200 A.D., and contains 14 chapters and portions of the last seven chapters of the gospel of John.

The Chester Beatty biblical papyri, discovered in 1931, has been dated to 200-250 A.D. and contains the Gospels, Acts, Paul's Epistles, and Revelation.

The number of manuscripts is extensive compared to other ancient historical writings, such as Caesar's "Gallic Wars" (10 Greek manuscripts, the earliest 950 years after the original), the "Annals" of Tacitus (2 manuscripts, the earliest 950 years after the original), Livy (20 manuscripts, the earliest 350 years after the original), and Plato (7 manuscripts).

"Many believers admit that nothing could change their mind about their religious beliefs, which means they are no longer seekers of truth and have become, in essence, mindless religious robots. Religion consistently and effectively discourages introspection and inquiry. That isn't by accident."-- Bob Peters

"FAITH. No one word personifies the absolute worst and most wicked properties of religion better than that. Faith is mind-rot. It’s the poison that destroys critical thinking, undermines evidence, and leads people into lives dedicated to absurdity. It’s a parasite regarded as a virtue." -- PZ Myers

I don't know any who do. What is claimed is some of the texts that make up the Bible are valid historical sources. It is professional historians who make that claim - some Christian, some not!

It's no doubt a historical document, however, that doesn't mean it has any legitimacy to it.

Realistically, people believe whatever they want to believe.

. The Bible was written by a large group of people over a vast period of time. It is really a collection of letters and historic accounts of actual events.

The same reason we think History books are reliable and accurate. But they can easily be flawed by misinterpretations. It's just an account of what had happened similar to history books. Does that mean that they are 100% true? No.

Everything in the bible that can be tied to the time it was in...is correct

there is no error

You realize that history is written by men who twist and skew it to meet their needs

why you trust something written by a man over God is a puzzlement

Most likely because it is.
