Is it a sin to question God?
?

General Question: Is it a sin to question God even though he gave us curiosity? Is it a sin to doubt him?

More detailed Version of the Question:
I am a naturally curious person and I want to seek the truth no matter what form it takes. Thus far I have found Christianity to be the answer and have accepted it by faith. I now that some matters of Christianity must be left to faith(for instance how can God exist).

However, I have some unanswered questions regarding Christianity. There are some things that don't make sense to me. I am approaching these topics with the idea that there is an answer I just haven't found it yet. But is it a sin to question God? Is it a sin to doubt him?

I don't think it's a sin to question God...it's human. Job questioned God when things got tough. But he wasn't a sinner. Jesus sort of questioned God in the garden when He was praying. And he was without sin.

I think doubt and fear are a natural part of being human and God understands this. After all, He created us...((Hugs))

It's not a sin to question God if you believe you'll get an answer--

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives generously to all and doesn't find fault, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, not doubting..." (James 1:5-6).

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because whoever comes to him must first believe that He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" (Hebrews 11:6).

Those two verses show you that God loves to give answers to anyone who believes that he will get an answer from God.

But I suppose it's a sin to keep questioning God about something he already told you. And doubting is usually a sin. don't doubt if you can help it. Ha! who can help it? Only by the grace of God. Faith is the gift of God...(Ephesians 2:8-9) Pray for your faith to be made strong.

It is no sin to question what you are taught. In fact, the Bereans were commended for searching the scriptures after being told things. Better to question things when you are building the foundation of your faith rather than accept whatever only to find that the building of your faith topples later because the foundation was not firm. Jehovah's Witnesses have a wonderful Bible Study program and it would help you clarify what the Bible teaches and what you believe.

Yes .. doubt is the opposite of faith .. it might be semantics here but the bible says it's impossible to please god without faith ..

since the faith movement / name it and claim it i'd assume the matter of faith has been presented 1,000,000 times.. I almost always shift to the word trust it's an easier concept than faith or to believe .. trust i what a child can do .

I don't doubt god because i KNOW he is faithful and i know he loved me and loves me when I'm utterly unworthy of it .

One of the first things someone told me when i became a christian a long time ago .. was to be able to say to people about spiritual things .."I don't know "

It has been said that Baha'is are not made, they are found. I do not think that was necessarily true in my case, but nonetheless.

It is a sin to Not question. By doubting but keeping an open mind, you end up proving and believing.

Some people claim all faith is blind, but my faith is a carefully considered, carefully reasoned and very reasonable, rational and defensible faith. Were atheist Stephen Roberts (1901-1971) standing in front of me this moment, I would say back to him, “I contend that we are both men of faith. I just have faith in one more thing than you do, and for very good reason. When you fully understand why I disdain all the devisers of superstitions and dismiss the gods of vain imaginings, you will understand why I believe in my God, and you will believe also." -- B. Knott Wildered (Not my real name, but the quote is mine.)

God has given man the eye of investigation by which he may see and recognize truth. He has endowed man with ears that he may hear the message of reality and conferred upon him the gift of reason by which he may discover things for himself. This is his endowment and equipment for the investigation of reality. Man is not intended to see through the eyes of another, hear through another's ears nor comprehend with another's brain. Each human creature has individual endowment, power and responsibility in the creative plan of God. Therefore depend upon your own reason and judgment and adhere to the outcome of your own investigation ... We must not be content with simply following a certain course because we find our fathers pursued that course. It is the duty of everyone to investigate reality, and investigation of reality by another will not do for us. -- (Abdu'l-Baha, Foundations of World Unity, p. 76)

I believe that Christianity came from God but Christians have left the true God and constructed a god of vain imaginings. -- BKW

There can be no doubt whatever that the peoples of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly Source, and are the subjects of one God. The difference between the ordinances under which they abide should be attributed to the varying requirements and exigencies of the age in which they were revealed.

(Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 217)

★ Regardless of Christianity’s origin, the very fact the Baha’i Faith exists is proof that when it comes to the Return of Christ and the End Time events, the Christian view is very much in error. Call it myth and folklore if you will.

★ If the Baha’i Faith is what it claims to be, then there is a God, Atheists are loved and inspired by God even if they do not realize it, all religions are directly or indirectly from God, the major ones directly, and world peace is beckoning from an ever-brightening horizon. If it is not what it claims to be, there is no god, no true religion and peace is a pipe dream and a hope that will never be realized.

★ Were there no God then the Baha’i Faith with all its aspects and myriad facets(*1) could not exist. The Baha’i Faith exists therefore it follows there must be a God.

*1. In toto, thousands of prophecies from every major religion fulfilled by the Baha'i Faith, prophecies made under the umbrella of the Baha'i Faith with none ever missing in even the tiniest detail, scientific truths mentioned in Baha'i scripture decades before they were posited by the mind of Science, principles designed to address societal problems before society at large recognized there was a problem, the unity achieved by the Baha'is themselves and the life of the founder, to name just a few.

I would recommend you approach it that you want to know more, rather than

'to question'. I would suggest you want to learn more rather than to doubt.

Both questioning the way you're using it, and doubting will be destructive

to you. Also, I'd suggest you learn some more about warfare praying etc.

You can find this online, and there are books online and in bookstores.

NO!! If it was a sin to question God, then Jesus sinned when he on the cross said, "my God my God why has thou forsaken me?"

✞ I do not believe that it is a sin to question God concerning things to increase your knowledge about His will...Doubting God on the other hand would be considered sin because you have chosen to not believe in faith...

>It is not a sin to question God. If you are unsure of what he is telling you, or if you think God tells you to do something, ask him to show you in another way that it is in fact him instructing you.

>You should not test God BUT in the bible says you CAN test him on one thing. and thats tithing (Malachi 3:10)

The Bible is filled with "the Greats of the Faith" questioning God. In and of itself it's fine.

they used to lock people away an give shock treatments for talking to non existent voices but these days they consider such harmless and don't punish them trying to cure them. I think it a deadly sin of ignorance not to question.

A lifetime of serious study will still leave things that we will never fully understand....however God will reveal his truths to us inasmuch as we are prepared to know him better & regard that as a major priority in our lives ...

But the bible was written by men, so arent you technically questioning what they said he said?

And all those who say they have faith, technically have faith in the word of other men.

no not to question Him but doubting is akin to calling Him a liar. But afterall Jesus did say "ask it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you."

Not in my opinion. It isn't wrong to question God. If you're a Christian, it is wrong to assume the worst of God.

No, but the "geniuses" in here will tell you you can't.

Not the Christians, but the cowards who lurk and hide in R&S 'cause they know if they did it anywhere else they'd get their asses kicked

Need to learn one new universal language and one speech in living words?

Then search for the communication system for communication in time?

By calling out " Father ! father !"

"Please send me guidance from above"

Look what we got for reply?

If it's a sin to question then it's a sin to think. Go get a lobotomy...

According to popular Western Christian beliefs, it's ok to question and doubt, as long as you end up with the right answer. If you get the wrong answer then prepare to be bludgeoned in this life, and thrown into hell afterward.

Both sin and God are man made. The real question is why should you not question the Bible and its contents.
