As a child, we are given information and also we explore the world around us. With both these sources of information, a neural matrix of understanding is formed---like a telephone exchange with wires and input/output plugs, except the neural matrix is made of interconnecting neurons (neurons are brain cells).
I am now going to tell you something hidden from most people: a secret in the language we speak. The word is called "stand". It means: a projection, something that has RISEN ABOVE the background e.g., a SIGNAL, or a differentiation. The key to objective thought is that every PHYSICAL OBJECT is encoded into memory make that object STAND OUT from the background. When you see your friend John, it is Johns physical attributes that are recognized by your neural matrix. The label JOHN is attached to the memory of what John looks like, so that when the visual light reflected off of John hits your eyes, your brain networks analyse that visual signal and those networks that encode for John's physical attributes are activated---therefore, you see John.
Here is the secret. The Sanskrit word SthA, the Greek and Latin root Sta, the Germanic Standen (English Stand) are from ONE root word---Sta---and this root is within many English words---stadium, stadt, destination, ecstatic, assist, contrast, establish, estate, instant, obstacle, obstinate, persist, resist, rest, stable, stall, stasis, station, status, state, statute, stay, stead, steer, stereo, style, substance, and exist---all these English words contain the root "to stand". For instance, the word "Exist" is made up of the Latin prefix "Ex- (out) + "Sisto" (to stand). The Latin root "Sisto" (to stand) relates to the Greek word iστημι (in Latin script: Histemi), from which the Latins derived Gk. Histo- --> to Latin Sisto. The Greek root Histemi contains the element στη (ste) which derives from the root Στα (Sta-) which is equivalent to Sanskrit SthA and Gemanic Stand.
In all the Indo European languages, this root word for Stand (Sta, Ste, SthA) relates to something observable i.e., detectable above background.
The word understand is a word that forms the basis for logic, reason and duality itself. The human mind is apt to split objects into smaller parts. Just as a car engine has many parts that function to make the car work, so most things in nature are made of many parts that form a functional whole. A car stands out as a moving vehicle. The understanding of the car is to see the inner workings of the car: it's engine, and other parts i.e., what is under the hood.
I mentioned in our word list the word Substance: this is the same word as Understand because the Latin prefix Sub- means "up from below, i.e., under" and stance means position or standing.
Therefore, understanding something is having substantial knowledge!
As mentioned at the beginning, every person develops a matrix: a set of associations---a neural net---encoding an understanding of the world. Each individuals neural matrix is unique to him/her, and dependent not only upon facts and ideas but upon how those ideas associate with one another to form a global pattern.
When you talk to another person, you provide information that relates to your own neural matrix: not just the information itself, but how you relate it to other information. However, when another person listens to you and takes in your information, THEY relate that information to their neural matrix, NOT YOURS. In other words, they see the same information differently.
I hope that my explanation helps you to understand why others have a different understanding to your own, and why you can't convince people! Essentially, it is because their neural networks are different to yours. Their world is literally different.
