I'm a Christian and I want to believe God is real, there are things I can't explain so i use God. Then I thought, " isn't that what the idea of gods were used for? To explain the unexplainable?" If the other gods aren't real, how can mine be ? I'm not trying to rant on God, I love him! But sometimes I wonder if God is just my way to comfort myself.

There is no doubt that the number of different religions in the world makes it a challenge to know which one is correct. First, let’s consider some thoughts on the overall subject and then look at how one might approach the topic in a manner that can actually get to a right conclusion about God. The challenge of different answers to a particular issue is not unique to the topic of religion. For example, you can sit 100 math students down, give them a complex problem to solve, and it is likely that many will get the answer wrong. But does this mean that a correct answer does not exist? Not at all. Those who get the answer wrong simply need to be shown their error and know the techniques necessary to arrive at the correct answer.

How do we arrive at the truth about God? We use a systematic methodology that is designed to separate truth from error by using various tests for truth, with the end result being a set of right conclusions. Can you imagine the end results a scientist would arrive at if he went into the lab and just started mixing things together with no rhyme or reason? Or if a physician just started treating a patient with random medicines in the hope of making him well? Neither the scientist nor the physician takes this approach; instead, they use systematic methods that are methodical, logical, evidential, and proven to yield the right end result.

This being the case, why should theology—the study of God—be any different? Why believe it can be approached in a haphazard and undisciplined way and still yield right conclusions? Unfortunately, this is the approach many take, and this is one of the reasons why so many religions exist. That said, we now return to the question of how to reach truthful conclusions about God. What systematic approach should be used? First, we need to establish a framework for testing various truth claims, and then we need a roadmap to follow to reach a right conclusion. Here is a good framework to use:

Love is a very vague word; my evidence is the divorce rate. You have the brain; google the stats.

My recommendation is to explore other religions as well. I find it more complete to be engulfed by different cultures and their way, including their religions. It gives a certain adjustment to your own perspective. You can contrast and compare. Very fair to you and others.

Since you're a Christian and many Christian friends of mine say all roads lead to God, then follow how your God designed you. You don't need to question him, but you can question mortals and worldly stuff, right?

No finger-pointing here. It would be nice for you to look into Islamism, Buddhism, and more. Don't need to believe in them...just "be exposed" seriously for a while. You may learn to smile more ^ ^

*** A Creator Worthy of Our Praise

Revelation 4:11

HAVE you ever wondered, ‘What is the meaning of life?’ Those who believe that life is the result of mindless evolution grope in vain for the answer. Not so those who accept the well-established truth that Jehovah God is the Source of life. (Psalm 36:9) They know that he had a purpose in creating us. That purpose is stated at Revelation 4:11. Let us see how those words, penned by the apostle John, explain why we are here.

John presents a heavenly chorus extolling God: “You are worthy, Jehovah, even our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created.” Jehovah alone is worthy, or deserving, of such homage. Why? Because he “created all things.” What, then, should his intelligent creatures be moved to do?

Jehovah is said to be worthy to “receive” glory, honor, and power. Without question, he is the most glorious, honorable, and powerful Personage in the universe. The majority of humankind, however, do not really recognize his Creatorship. Even so, there are those who clearly see God’s “invisible qualities” through the things he has made. (Romans 1:20) With appreciative hearts, they are moved to give Jehovah glory and honor. They proclaim to all who will hear the impressive evidence that Jehovah is the one who made all things wonderfully and that he is therefore deserving of our reverential respect.—Psalm 19:1, 2; 139:14.

How, though, does Jehovah receive power from his worshippers? Of course, no creature can confer power on the almighty Creator. (Isaiah 40:25, 26) Yet, being created in God’s image, we are endowed with a measure of God’s attributes, one of which is power. (Genesis 1:27) If we truly appreciate what our Creator has done for us, we will be moved to use our power and energy to honor and glorify him. Instead of expending our energy solely on advancing our own interests, we feel that Jehovah God is worthy of receiving all our power as we serve him.—Mark 12:30.

Why, then, are we here? The last part of Revelation 4:11 answers: “Because of your will they [all created things] existed and were created.” We did not will ourselves into existence. We exist because of God’s will. For this reason, life lived solely for self-interest is empty and meaningless. To find inner peace, joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment, we need to learn what God’s will is and then bring our life into harmony with it. Only then will we find the purpose of our creation and existence.—Psalm 40:8.

From you text it seems that you think god is that man in the sky planning every flower, bird, bug and person and whatever. God made the universe, more modern persons believe, just like you made your heart, your mind. They grew, like all else. You will find much more about gods and spirits by closely looking at a flower instead of confusing yourself with unanswerable questions and abstractions.

friend, you need faith. sounds like you have no relationship with Him. maybe all you have is religion. i was the same, but then i read the Bible and came to know Him personally and i became filled with His Holy Spirit. give this a try and pray for the Spirit to come.

as far as knowing that God is real... the evidence is everywhere, beginning with God's holy word, the Bible. the Bible has been proven historically and archaeologically accurate. then there is the matter of fulfilled prophecy--only God can predict the future. and God's word is alive--the Holy Spirit permeates its pages. come to know Him through His word. you will have no doubts once the Holy Spirit comes to reside in your heart. i am praying for you. God bless you.

Other gods were created to divert attention from God. If you are a so called true Christian then you would have read the Bible to see if God is the true and real God.

My friend wether you are a christain a Muslim a Hindu or belong to any religious group, there is no doubt that there is ONLY ONE GOD who is the Creator ,cherisher, nourisher of this Universe. This God has manifisted Himself Through Scriptures sent earlier and throught Prophets/Messengers who came with God's message and commandments and who did great wonders by his Power and Will.

This One God is the all powerful.the Omnipotent.the Omniscent, who has No Image and there is Non like unto him.

Any Created being born of Human .who eats.drinks, sleeps and dies cannot be a God and has to be rejected totallly. These are the Gods created and worshipped by human beings and are false God !!!.

one of the Biggest examples is of Christains who made the Messenger,Jesus [pbuh]into a God and a Son of God,whereas. he NEVER claimed to be One..!!!!!

Almighty God does Not expect Blind faith. In order to strengthen our faith with the Truth he sent us many Prophets amoung them were Noah, Lut,Abrahim,Solomon, David,Moses,Jesus and Finally the prophet Mohammed [peace be on them all].We has the Psalms of David, the Thorah by Moses, the Godpel of Jesus and Finally the Holy Quran Brought By Prophet Muhammed [peace be on them all].When you Read the Holy Quran ,study islam and the Life of the Prophet Muhammed [peace and blessings be upon him] you will find 100 proof of the existance of the ONE ALMIGHTY GOD who is Allah [in arabic].

You shouldn't believe in God just to "explain the unexplainable", you need valid reasons.

The Ten Commandments state "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me."

Why would it say that if there were no other gods? Wouldn't it just be better to say "I am the only God." ?

So Alan, no one can answer your question because there is no answer. The God of the Bible is just as likely as any other god... same amount of evidence supporting existence = nil.

As for all those visions, NDE, visitations, fulfilled prophecies etc. all religions have them, so nothing there.

Even so, as the guy below me says, if it comforts you then so be it. It is just like sucking your thumb.

Just for the record your god is named Yhwh. Pronounced & commonly spelled Yahweh. His son Jesus is actually named Yeshua. Jesus is just a translation. Yeshua means Yahweh deliverers & Yahweh saves.

Also other gods are just as real. I myself am Norse polytheist & Lord Odin is as real to me as Yahweh & Yeshua are to you.

WHO IS GOD? There are many names for the Only One God, the Eternity. Christians say God (But they worship Virgin Mary & Jesus, their statues/idols & cross). Jewish Say ILAI (Arabic word ILAHI). Muslims say Allah (Who Created you, me and whole universe). The Hindus, worship the Heroes, Heroins, Sub-Heroes, Sub-Heroins, (Genetical Part Linga & Yoni) and animals of imagined stories.

Always Pray the Only One God Allah (Who Created you, me and whole universe), not the creations. God must be the Creator, not the creation. God must be neither born nor gave birth. (Look Quran chapter 112 thru "SearchTruth" site).

All of the Hindu Gods & Goddessses has parents. So, who is the Creator of their Parents?

The Hindus, worship the Heroes, Heroins, Sub-Heroes, Sub-Heroins, (Genetical Part Linga & Yoni) and animals of imagined stories. But they are Jinns,, which are created by the Only One God Allah (Who Created you, me and whole universe). He Says in Holy Quran

51:56. And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).

4:171. ....so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not: "Three (trinity)!" Cease! (it is) better for you....

6:100. Yet, they join the jinns as partners in worship with Allah, though He has created them (the jinns),...

34:41. ...You, [O Allah ], are our benefactor not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn;

72 :6. ...who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.(Hindus say: Vishnu is the preserver).

16:73. And they worship others besides Allah, such as do not and cannot own any provision for them from the heavens or the earth.

19:42. When he (A[Braham-a]) said to his father: "O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything?

29:17. "You worship besides Allah only idols, and you only invent falsehood. Verily, those whom you worship besides Allah have no power to give you provision, so seek your provision from Allah (Alone), and worship Him (Alone), and be grateful to Him. To Him (Alone) you will be brought back.

37:91Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat (of the offering before you)?

95. He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve?

Also check with "NobleQuran" 's site for Chapter 12 Verse 39, 13:16, 16:51 & 4:117

Prophet Jesus (Peace be upon him) is a creation, not the Creator God. If He is God, "Did He create any? Who took care of the world, when he was here in this world? If He is son of God, who is God's wife?"

Allah Says in Holy Quran Chapter 4 Verse 32. .... And ask Allah of his bounty. Indeed Allah is ever, of all things, Knowing.

22:73. O people, an example is presented, so listen to it. Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for that purpose. And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.

- WHERE IS GOD? Chapter 50 Verse 16 And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And "WE ARE NEARER TO HIM THAN HIS JUGULAR VEIN" (by Our Knowledge).

Chapter 40 Verse 60. And your Lord says, "CALL UPON ME;I WILL RESPOND TO YOU." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

61:6 And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad."....

- Look Verses: 37:75, 57:27 in Quran.

Look Chapter 48 Verse 29 (Because I am not allowed to write more. Y!A says it's too long)

The Holy Quran was Revealed from God Allah [Who Created you, me and whole universe] to Prophet Mohammed by VOICE, through Angel Gabriel, before 1400 years. Later it was written, Since then, there is no change in it's Arabic Origin. You can't find contradictions or a single vulgar word in Holy Quran. Translations may vary. Because they are done by humans. The Quranic Verses are not only for those olden days, they are to follow today and tomorrow. It has many Scientific Proofs.

To check: Just say heart fully "Ya Allah" always, even on bed, except in toilet, look the changes in your life after a month.(This has been tested).
