Okay, so I cut/self harm, I also have an eating disorder - Bulimia and have nearly attempted suicide. I go to church - however have only been going for about 7 months, I used to take communion at another church I went to but we stopped going there and after a couple of years came to this new one. However at my old church i didn't cut so it wasn't a problem. But I don't want to take communion if I am constantly sinning!! I don't know, help please! Do you think I should ask someone at my church or will they hate me? Thankyou xx

You are harming yourself by taking communion.

It depends on what church you go to, because different churches believe different things about the eucharist, and have different teachings about who may receive.

If it is a Catholic church you attend, then they have fairly strict rules about communion. Their rule is that anyone who has committed a serious (mortal) sin, should not receive communion until they have gone to confession. They may, however, may make a "spiritual communion" by using this prayer:

I am not sure about the specifics of what other churches teach, but hopefully there will be other people on here who can advise you.

Just don't tell them you did it. After taking communion tell someone at the church to call in a professional to help you.

If it's a good church, then yes, take communion. As it says it Luke 5:32: "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." God wants to help you, not judge you. Of course, there are many churches with PEOPLE that will judge you, but God loves you. He knew you before the womb. You just need to let Him help you. Good luck, I'll be praying. :)

You self-harm and have bulimia, and you're worried about communion? Get medical help for your problems, immediately!

As regards your question, a few Catholics do self-harm as 'penance' and it used to be a lot more popular than it is now, so the answer is probably yes.

Well you made the statement you don't want to take it if you are constantly sinning. So you are right not to take it, because we are to examine ourselves before we take it. We are all sinning and doing things, even small things, but things like disobeying God is a sin. If you do not feel right about taking communion then do not take it. And you don't need to explain to ANYONE why you are not doing it. That is strictly between you and God.

You should be more concerned about your MPD. Cutting is a clear sign of MPD (DID). If you will deal with that first the doors may open to the truth of communion in the pagan christian church.

If they hate you, go find another place that knows right from wrong and is willing to accept and help those going through rough times who need help. Hate is ridiculous. Don't put yourself in that kind of environment.
