I have just been looking at a website about strange phenomena and the topic of crop circles came up. I noticed that a lot of the atheist members were saying that crop circles were messages from aliens. Why is that? There is zero evidence that crop circles are made by UFOs. I think they are made by hoaxers.

Why do atheists think crop circles are messages from aliens?

So messages from aliens is any sillier than messages from god?

I expect many believe that because they are familiar with other "patterns" that are visible only from the sky...such as the "landing strips" and the "spider" in South America that can only bee seen from the sky. Oh, and these are thousands of years old, so why would hoaxers make something that no one could see?

I've never heard an atheist express this belief before, although I'm sure some atheists do. Atheism is a lack of belief in a god, and that's it. Everything else a person believes is up to them. However, I'm an atheist, and I do not believe this, nor do any of the other atheists I speak to, who tend to be rather ardent skeptics, and have a very fine mesh on their BS filters. As far as I can tell, 100% of the evidence we've found so far points to bored (and sometimes very talented) teenagers, and not aliens, when it comes to this matter.

Wouldn't the intelligent thing to do be asking them directly?

How can we know what the facts are if you don't even tell us the name of the website.

As an atheist I think crop circles are made by pranksters using rope, lumber and advanced high school geometry.

We don't. Stop lying. I'm willing to bet that nearly 100% of atheists believe crop circles have a perfectly natural, terrestrial explanation.

This atheist doesn't believe that.

Ever noticed how crop circles tend never to be far from universities? Hmm?

We never did. The crop circles were also proven to be a hoax.

I have never heard that before! Why do you say that? Did you talk to an alien who turned us in? You can never trust any aliens!

You're generalizing. Just because a few atheists believe this doesn't mean all atheists believe it.

They say the same thing about theists' belief in God. Merry Christmas.

Actually I think they are messages from a couple of clever drunken idiots who fooled all kinds of people.
