In football when some1 makes a touchdown, they thank god or wen they win they thank god.
God didnt do anything, its your hardwork and determination that got you here. Or wen police catch a criminal, people THANK god. THank the police it was tTHEIR evidence, THEIR night and day work to catch that criminal and putting their lives at stake. Yet all I hear is "Thank god for catching that criminal" Or "Thank God for us winning this game"
God didnt do anything

I guess you do not like to hear that God had anything to do with things.

We all have a right to our beliefs. You seem to think that only your opinion counts here.

I am not trying to be rude, but would it not be better then having them talk dirty and or yell and scream and pick fights with you or others?

I think you need to just stop trying to make everyone like you.

Our Bible tells us to give thanks. And that is what we are going to do.

You can hear it or tune it out.

God bless,

Camille

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (King James Version)

18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Thank God for giving you the ability to ask a thoughtful question.

God is the provider of everything, without Him, there can be nothing. Thank Him for every breath you take, He made the air, and your lungs as well. Thank Him for the food and drink you consume, for the farmer that grew the food, for the seed that grew the crops. God gets all the glory, we can do nothing on our own.

*EDIT*

Apparently you ARE an atheist.

People thank God because they believe that God has given the the ability and the opportunity to do what it is that they have done. For Instance, if your mother put you through college, when you got your degree it would have been your hard work and determination that got you to that point but since she was the one who created the opportunity for you to do such a thing, it would not be out of order for you to thank her as well.Ultimately, people who believe in God believe that he has watched over them and guided them to their success. Therefore when they succeed it seems only logical to that him for doing so.
Ephesians 2:8

they give thanks to God thus recognizing they were but just a mere creation (that once to die, then the judgment).

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Myself, i always give thanks to Gods, Christ Jesus in everything even when i sneezed. Why? if i couldn't sneeze then there be accumulation of bad toxic elements inside my head and it iwll benifits the doctor.

Besides, what makes you jealous to people tht give thanks to God to things they have? or things that may glorify God? 1Ch 16:8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

Phi 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

Phi 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Phi 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Phi 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Phi 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

well in religion wise, christian belief, god created your miracle any everything that helped it end the way it did. He helped you do what you did. Everything happens for a reason. You can't do anything by youself, wthout the help of GOD.

For others its just like saying "thank goodness," but a shorter way of saying it.

Jesus is the vine, we are the branches. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. It's God who allows football players to score touchdowns. It's God who allows criminals to get caught. It's God who allows players to win games. Granted, the term "thank God" has become a mere saying. We should be thanking God that He's being so patient and merciful with us.

The funny thing is, you never see them thank God when they lose. You'd think a genuine Christian would be humble enough to thank God in defeat as well, as least for being given the chance and ability to compete, but you NEVER see that. Hypocrites.

its an easy excuse when things dont go their way. people who believe in god are lazy. they dont want to educate themselves or take the time to actually have compassion for all life, just their own and those who believe as they do. its easier to hate and its easier to use a god as a scapegoat. so they use a god to take blame for bad things they do, because they are irresponsible, so hence they must give credit to it when things happen that are good. since there is no way a human can do those things all on their own. to acknowledge that is to acknowledge there is no god to being with, so they of course dont want to do that.

When I was in Iraq they would say "thank god" after they sneezed. I was told two different things to explain it: 1.) If you don't then god will make bad things happen to you. 2.) you should thank god when something good, bad, or nothing happens to you.

You keep saying, "God didn't do anything." Well, how terrific. Most of us don't know what's up with God (at least we're honest enough to admit we are not certain of anything), and this <...> comes along and claims to know what God does or doesn't do.

Wow! Let's name a church after this prophet!

They don't want to blame themselves for their good fortune...

You know laying blame is bad, so they give it to some non existent entity.

I mean.. like those drug users that thank god for getting them off drugs.. I mean they surely couldn't have done it themselves through sheer will power.... NO, they definitely should blame something else instead of being darn proud of themselves for something they accomplished by their own willpower.

In the end thankfulness is the only true communion with God.

Not that it should be done lightly in public or anything.

look, just let people do what they want. thanking god isn't that big of a deal. maybe if you leave them alone they'll return the favor someday.

everything we have is because God cares for us..air, water, warmth, a roof, our food.....so we thank him and acknowledge we know he loves us...and ....we love him too.
